Specifically in 90s Salman was the bigger star.

But Govinda being a senior was considered a bigger star if we compare their whole career till the end of 90s.

Salman was a big star as well but his costars used to take away all the credit for the success of the films. Like Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Aapke he kaun , Jeet, Karan

Arjun etc. Judwa changed his fate.

LMAO! Salman was definitely the bigger star in 90s and one of the biggest stars of 90s with ATBBs like MPK, HAHK at beginning of career and hits like Saajan, Judwa, Jeet, Biwi no. 1, PKTDK, DHLJ, Patthar ke Phool, Sanam Bewafa, HDDCS etc. Govinda was fizzling in 90s as a mainstream hero and only counted on David Dhawan comedies to get hits till 1999. Anyone calling Govinda a bigger star than Salman in 90s is either a hater of Salman or probably did not live through 90s. Salman was one of the top 3 highest paid, biggest stars of 90s and the only star to give 2 ATBBs in first 6 years of career. He was a total craze and heart throb of youngsters and single handedly started trends for body building, male fashion. He was also a popular model before he got into films and did ads for all top brands back in 1980s itself.

Govinda was a dancing sensation and top comic actor but never had stardom of Salman Khan at any point of time in his entire career.

It was Salman films like MPK, HAHK that brought family audiences back to theaters after vulgar violent films era of 1980s and opened overseas markets too which were non starters for Bollywood films earlier. Family audiences and NRIs flocked to see Maine Pyar Kiya and HAHK. It was success of these films which inspired Adi Chopra to make DDLJ, FYI.

He actually bagged that role because all others rejected the role and he offered to do it due to family connections with Karan Johar
