He texted Rasika sneakily “Hey Rasika, I am trying to set up a meeting with the guy who wanted me to meet the Savarkars so can you please keep the matter confidential? Not a word even to Mrunalini please, I don’t know who knows who at this point”
Rasika sent a shocked face emoji “Is it bad?”
“Well I don’t know yet… Mrunalini’s Dad is well connected u see” he said it blankly

He was amused at how Rasika was dealing with the conspiracy “I gotta run” he sent a smiley

He gave her a tour of the floor, bought her vending machine chips and bought Dhru soda
“Next time I want kitkat” she looked at it longingly
He punched the keys and got her two immediately
“My office machine doesn’t have any US candy”
“That’s a lie” he cut her
“Hai par genuine made in Hershey PA nahi hai” she looked at her KitKat fondly and inhaled a bar

Dhru was holding his other hand still buried inside his book
“Do u want Swedish Fish?” he asked his son

“Yes or no shakkara” she inhaled her candy
He snatched one and tore it open
“why did u do that? I would have had it at work tomorrow”
“I will buy u a couple more” he promised he bit into it and handing her the other half
They returned to his office

He began to argue about how he would make it

“CHIPPPS” Jaidrith screeched as the waiter brought gluten free rice bread for Dhru and bruschetta for the couple

“He doesn’t have to steal me I will go by myself” pat came the reply from Jaidrith

She tried to go to the rest room to cry

“Like how u didn’t buy books?” she was crying now
She bend down and wiped her tears off as the waiter approached with a wine list
She ordered quietly and sat still
“How about we choose a mid point and make the chips there”

He began to laugh

“With your mother there? No thank you I would rather risk my life by walking home from here”
“She is gone now” he said grimly

“So?” he sighed
“You don’t have to indulge me so much you know” she gently pulled her hand out of his grip or pried anyway.. “I have not officially agreed to marry you… I like being with you (lowering her voice to indicate their intimate interaction) its going to be exhausting to wait and field questions from your parents and wonder what the hell I am up to” she spoke clearly looking into his eyes
“I am not indulging you, I am indulging myself” he said and opened his mouth to say something but stopped short
She turned bright red

They ordered their food, the kid’s arrived first even before their appys
Jaidrith put his book away and ate his whole meal and almost wiped his face on the place to lick off the pasta sauce
“OK place u think?” Aatreya teased his son as he wiped off his red nose tip
“U only seem to think about urself when when u say no… u have no idea how much I crave stability and normalcy, I do have great parents but I want my own life Mrunalini” he chewed quietly looking deeply at her
“Another misstep in choosing a partner wont be good for you, I am as crazy as they get”
“I am as crazy about you as they get” he said quietly
He stopped eating and leaned back and just twirled his fork
Whats with these Rao boys she wondered, Jai did the exact same thing with every piece of cutlery the same way. Like they were rolling a stem of rose between their fingers
“Thank you” she said looking down at her appetizer

“Your office, like 500 people on ur team, the beautiful flat”
“None of it matters if the person does not love me” he said
“I am sure many would fall in love in seconds” she looked up at him giggling “U just want me to say nice things” she pushed her glasses up
“Find them for me” he smiled mischievously

“I (ncluding me?”) she was about to ask then realized that would mean admitting she had fallen for him already

“Ah” he just looked at her, wondering if she was about to say “Including me?”
“I am bringing Jaidrith to my place. I want you there as well” he took charge
“I have work tomorrow” she said firmly
“I will set an alarm and go bring u ur uniform saree”
He already had multiple sets of uniform for Jai in his place
“I can go get ready at 6” she said quietly
He had crossed half the river, he was going to be quiet now… he was going to get her to stay for breakfast and drive her himself
He felt a rush of thrill and excitement
“U only seem to think about urself when when u say no… u have no idea how much I crave stability and norm
The guy is persistent. Waiting for Mrinalini to give in. To accept her feelings for him to him and being happy.
Would love to see her put her mother in place next time.
