Thank you so much everyone for your encouragement! I still can't believe this story already has over 300 views! You guys are amazing!

I read somewhere that the last step to being a true fan is writing FF. And YHM is the only show that has prompted me to write. Well, the fever of YHM is such that I have been on a roll with this FF and I have managed to write another part already. So here is the next part. Hope you guys like it.

Part 2

Azure Women’s Clinic - Three weeks after Ishita’s surgery, 10 am

“Hi, My name is Dr. Subramaniam and this is my fiance Dr. Ishita Iyer. We’re here for Ishita’s appointment with Dr. Amanda Smith.”

“Yes sir, Dr. Smith is just finishing her appointment with another patient right now. Please have a seat in the waiting area, and you’ll be called in when she is ready.”

“Ok perfect. Thank you.”

Subbu and Ishita smiled at the receptionist and walked over to the waiting area and took a seat. Subbu had been adamant at bringing Ishita here for a checkup with his OB/GYN specialist friend ever since she had been discharged, but only today had he managed to get an appointment with her.

“Subbu, Dr. Smith must be a very busy doctor if it took you three weeks to get an appointment even despite being her close friend. But why have you been so hell bent on getting me checked with her? Dr. Awasthi has been very happy with my recovery.”

“I know that Ishu, but Dr. Awasthi is a gynecologic surgeon. While Dr. Smith is actually an OB/GYN who has specialized in multiple fellowships. She has much more training than Dr. Awasthi, so I just wanted her to check on you as well.”

“I see. What has she done her fellowship in? I saw her name outside but I didn’t have a chance to read her specialization. Was it maternal-fetal medicine? Or…?”

“Actually Ishu, she is a specialist in...”

Before Subbu finished answering, a nurse bellowed from inside the exam room, “Ms. Ishita Iyer! Dr. Smith shall see you now!” And Ishita was on her way in.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………

15 minutes later

Dr. Smith had now finished Ishita’s exam and had looked over her post-op scans and reports that she had brought with her.

“Well Dr. Iyer, it seems as though you have been having a very smooth recovery. Now remember, no physical exertion or heavy lifting. You’re not working right now are you?”

“No doctor, in fact, my fiance has made me quit my job as well. He wants to make sure I have a speedy recovery so we can get married at the earliest.”

“I understand you both want to get married soon Dr. Iyer, but please take care of yourself. Although I am Christian, I do know that Hindu weddings can be very exhausting for the bride and groom, particularly for the bride.”

“Of course doctor. Don’t worry. I’ll take care of myself.”

Ishita stepped down from the exam table after Dr. Smith finished her exam. She walked out of the exam room and encountered Subbu who was finishing the payment for the visit.

“Subbu, the checkup is done. And my recovery is also going well. Can we go home now? Vandu akka and Bala jeeju are meeting us there for lunch remember?”

“Of course Ishu, just give me a few minutes. I’ll just have a quick chat with Amanda. Why don’t you wait in the car?”

“Subbu, us din hospital mein tum Dr. Awasthi se baat kar rahe the. Aaj tumhe Dr. Smith se baat karni hai. Itni chinta kyun kar rahe ho meri recovery ki? Main thik hoon baba. Aur jald hi puri tarha thik ho jaaungi. Tumne to meri job bhi choodva di.”

“Ab tak naaraz ho us baat ko leke? I worry about you Ishu, isiliye tumhe job chodne ko bola tha. Aur main bas paanch minute baat karke aata hoon. Please?”

“Ok fine. Par jaldi aana. Agar der ki to main khud gaadi leke chali jaungi.”

Subbu made his way inside Dr. Smith’s cabin, and after one last glance at her fiance, Ishita walked outside to Subbu’s car. But as she tried to open the door, she realized that the key was with Subbu. “Paithyam Ishita, ab bina chaabi ke kaise bhaghogi gaadi leke? Praanth. Now I’ll just have to wait for Subbu here,” she said aloud.

Ishita looked around hoping to spot a bench where she could sit. She couldn’t find a bench, but something else of interest did strike her eye. She saw the board outside Azure Women’s Clinic with all the doctors’ names and their specialties. And there it was written in bold black letters: DR. AMANDA SMITH - WOMEN’S FERTILITY EXPERT

………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Subbu’s house, 7 pm

Ishita had arrived at Subbu’s house with her Amma, Appa and Mihika for dinner. They were seated on the sofa with Devyani (Subbu & Bala’s mom) while Vandu was finishing up the last of the dinner preparations and Bala was cleaning up after Shravu’s dinner. Quickly enough, Bala and Vandu had joined the rest of the family on the sofa engaging in fun chatter about their day. But the person who Ishita was looking for was yet to be seen. Subbu.

She had been wanting to talk to Subbu ever since her appointment with Dr. Smith, but there had not been an opportunity to do so. When he came out of the clinic and opened the car, he was on the phone with his colleague and simply gestured to Ishita to sit in the car. By the time he finished his phone call, they had reached home and Ishita had received a message each from Amma and Mihika asking where she was and how long she would take to come home. Subbu had left quickly after dropping her off owing to an emergency in his clinic leaving Ishita’s questions unanswered. Why had he brought her to a fertility specialist? It must be because Dr. Smith was his close friend and he just wanted a second opinion regarding her post-op recovery. But what if there was something else in his mind?

However, Ishita had no time to dwell on her fears during lunch since she had been subjected to some news which were both delightful and saddening. Her Vandu akka had been offered the job of the principal of Delhi Arts College and her Bala jeeju had procured the position of the head of the English Department there and so, they planned on moving to Delhi soon. Vandu and Bala had to deal with an onslaught of hugs (from Ishita and Mihika) and tears (from Amma) along with a list of questions about their forthcoming move. The commotion had only died down when they promised to host dinner that night at their house and give them all the details then.

“So jeeju, you promised you would tell us everything at dinner. Ab batao, aap log kab jaa rahe hain? Aur vaha rehne ki arrangements ho gayi? Aur Ishu akka ki shaadi tak rukoge ya usse pehle hi jaaoge?”

“Mihika, calm down. At least let me speak baba!” Bala exclaimed. “We are leaving in about 20-25 days. We plan to join there at the beginning of the new term. We have applied to live in the family apartments that the university offers. As soon as we get the confirmation, we will start packing up here. The facilities there are pretty nice actually. There is also a nice school for Shravu there that we plan to get him enrolled in. And Ishu still needs a few months to recover, right? So we’ll come back for the wedding. Not in a million years would I miss my brother and my saali’s wedding!”

“No anna,” a voice spoke from the door. Subbu had just arrived from his clinic and with those words, Ishita could sense an air of doom around the room. Like a bomb that was waiting to burst. “The wedding isn’t happening.” The ground shook beneath Ishita’s feet as she stood up to confront Subbu on the meaning of his words.

“What do you mean Subbu?! I know the wedding has been postponed but that doesn’t mean it’s cancelled!”

“Ishu, I’m so sorry. But the truth is I can’t marry you. Tum kabhi maa nahi ban sakti. Aur shaadi ke baad bacche hi do logo ko baandh ke rakhte hain. Agar hamare bacche hi nahi honge to tumse shaadi karne kya matlab? I’m sorry but I can’t accept you.”

“Main kabhi maa nahi ban sakti… Kya matlab… Aise kaise…” Ishita found herself at a loss of words. A snap of a finger is all it took to change her dreams into nightmares. She had lost her family even before she started one. Her balance faltered as her knees went weak and tears streamed down her face. Mihika rushed to her side to support her and rained accusations on Subbu with her eyes and words.

“What do you mean Ishu akka kabhi maa nahi ban sakti? Kisne kaha tumse? Aur tum yaha khade khade apna rishta tod rahe ho? Kya laga rakha hai tumne Subbu?!”

Amma and Appa had now stood up and looked distraught. They had just seen Ishu in tremendous physical pain before and after her surgery, but the pain they could see in her eyes right now was a thousand times more than that. Vandu sent Shravu inside to watch TV and went to stand by Bala’s side signalling him to stop his brother’s nonsense.

“Subbu, what the hell is wrong with you?!” Bala yelled. “Amma, tell your son to stop this or else…”

“Anna please, calm down. Aap sab bhi please shaanti se sochiye. Ishita’s right ovary was damaged because of the tumors and so was her left fallopian tube. When I heard that it striked me that she wouldn’t be able to conceive because of that. I even talked with Dr. Awasthi who told me that the chances of her ever getting pregnant were very low, but she wasn’t a specialist so I needed a second opinion. And Dr. Smith is a very knowledgeable fertility specialist. She told me Ishita would practically never be able to conceive.”

Ishita’s face fell flat upon hearing her fiance’s words. Her ex-fiance’s words. He wasn’t in love with her. Not anymore at least. He hadn’t been worried about her recovery. He had been worried about her ability -- or inability rather -- to give him a child. That’s what he had been talking about with Dr. Awasthi and then Dr. Smith. That’s why he had made her quit her job.

Bala’s booming voice brought Ishita back to reality. “So! You still have the option to adopt! How can you just break your relationship like this? Did you even speak to her before you…”

“NO ADOPTION!” Bala’s mom yelled at him before he could finish. “I will not tolerate it anymore in my house! I want to play with my grandchild who is my own blood before I die! And Subbu is the only one who can fulfill my wish!”

“Amma, how could you…” Bala had always been loud and clear whenever he disagreed with his mom and his brother but even he found himself speechless now. His mom had gone too far. Vandu placed her arm around her husband to hold him up.

“Bala, the truth isn’t hidden from anyone. It never has been. Your father and I adopted you after your real parents -- who happened to be our friends -- died in a car accident. And we both loved you like our own. Shravu and Vandu are also dear to us. But the truth is that Subbu is our blood. I have been living in one wish ever since your father died and that is to see my grandchild. Subbu’s child. The child who will carry on my husband’s name. The real heir of our family. And if Ishita can’t provide us with one, then we can’t accept her as the daughter-in-law of our family.”

Vandu was furious hearing her mother-in-law speak like that of her husband. “Amma, is this what you think of Bala and me? Humne hamesha aapko apna mana. Bala ne aapko aur Subbu ko itna pyar diya. Shravu bhi mujhse zyada aapki sunta hai. Aur aap aaj bhi apne aur paraye mein fark karti hain? Subbu, tumhari bhi yahi soch hai tumhare anna ke bare mein?”

Both mother and son merely looked at each other to avoid Vandu’s questions.

“Aiyyo murugan. Yeh kya ho raha hai?! Devyani, tum meri betiyon ke saath aisa kaisa kar sakti ho? Ishu ka to abhi lagnam bhi baaki hai, whole life baaki hai…”

“Bas Madhu!” Vishwa interrupted his wife’s lamenting. “Chalo yaha se. Miku, Ishu, let’s go. Jaha hamari izzat nahi hai, waha hum bilkul nahi rahenge.”

“I’m really sorry uncle…”

“Nahi Subbu, tum sorry mat bolo. In fact, main tumhe thank you kehta hoon. Ki tumne shaadi se pehle tumhare asli rang dikha diye. You don’t deserve my daughter. Madhu, chalo yaha se.”

And with that, Vishwanathan Iyer took his wife, daughter, and niece with him out of that house, while Vandu and Bala went into their room disheartened, leaving the mother son duo there who had managed to successfully break their own family.

Ishita is shattered 💔

Looks like Ishita will also go to Delhi now along with Bala n Vandu

Interesting!

So Bala is adopted by Devyani 😲

Also I actually liked how you dealt with Ishita's infertility here. Much more realistic than the show. Waiting for RKB's entry ❤️

A small suggestion, can you edit the title of the post as "Part 2 Updated". Also whenever you update, please edit the title,it would be easier to find out if you've updated or not.
