He muttered a curse under his breath as he skidded his bike to a halt. Calming the intense thudding in his chest, he prepared himself for the angry outburst of the car owner. Rohit Sippy knew very well it was his fault, he was slightly over the speed limit and almost rammed into the car in front of him. This wasn't the first time he wondered if his near brushes with death (this wasn't the first time) these past 4 months were intentional, coincidental or simply his bad luck. He pulled over to the side and took off his helmet as the car pulled over as well. Rohit set his helmet on the handle and was about to apologize when he looked up and saw HER.
His world came to a silent stop. At first, all his senses shut down and then he felt it all rushing back in. The thudding in his chest came back with much more intensity than before. A strange shiver ran through him as he looked into her piercing eyes. If looks could kill, he would be lying in the morgue right about now. He swallowed hard against the lump in his throat as his mind became fuzzy. Rohit felt his ears ringing as his heart clenched. He looked down and whispered a soft apology. He wasn't sure if it was an apology for the accident or an apology for everything. Maybe he was apologizing for coming into her life in the first place. He honestly didn't know. Rohit's hands were shivering as he reached forward and gripped the handles. She was still staring at him. He shut his eyes for strength, opened them and tried to start the bike.
She just stared at him in a cold manner and he needed to get away. "Coward" she simply stated as he tried hard to start the bike. He needed to get away. Now! As soon as the wheels spun into motion, he pulled into the road and drove away. Yes, indeed he was a coward. He was scared. Of her. Of the memories. Of what his family could do to her. Of what he could do to her. And most of all, he was scared of ripping all those wounds open, for both of them. He prayed that a part of her healed, because he hadn't. He was as broken as he was that night. Except the tears had dried and he made sure no one could see the signs of pain. They didn't deserve to be privy of his emotions. Only she mattered and she was no longer his.
Sonakshi stared as Rohit drove away. The cold facade dropped and the intense pain took over. Perhaps she would never heal.
Neither of them were aware that many months ago, they had met in a similar yet very different situation. Perhaps someone up there was rewriting their story. This time with much more pain and even more love. Maybe there was still hope for Dr. Surgeon and his Drama Queen.
