Not Shraddha but DP was the first choice for Saaho opposite Prabhas!

Shraddha Kapoor and Prabhas starrer Saaho is undoubtedly one of the highly anticipated films of the year. After a long wait, the thriller drama is all set to hit the big screen in a few days. The film’s trailer dropped in recently and is well received by fans and the audience by now. 

The duo’s strong performance in the trailer has also attracted good reviews from the audience. Prabhas, who became an overnight sensation after Baahubali 1 and 2 is one of the main reasons behind the film’s growing prospect. 

But, did you know Shraddha was not the first choice to be paired opposite the South star?

As per the reports from In.com, Saaho was scripted way before the Bahubali series released, with Baahubali: The Beginning being released in 2015 and Baahubali: The Conclusion released in 2017. The makers wanted to cast a popular Bollywood name opposite Prabhas and had approached Deepika Padukone for the same! But if sources are to be believed, the Padmaavat actress refused to do the film due to date issues. Also, despite being a star in Telugu cinema, only a few knew Prabhas at that time, outside the South industry. While on the other hand, Deepika was already a big name in Bollywood and was working with some of the best in the business. 

“Deepika is fluent in Kannada which is similar to Telugu. She was a huge and talented name and it would have made life easier when it comes to shooting. Shraddha has also done a great job but the first choice was Deepika.” stated the source. After Deepika declined the film, the makers approached Shraddha Kapoor who readily agreed and accepted the offer opposite Prabhas.

After his film Baahubali: The Beginning went on to make Rs 1,19,22,50,000 and Baahubali: The Conclusion made Rs 5,10,36,00,000 globally, Prabhas went from being a Telugu star to a globally renowned actor. And, with the actor’s smashing stardom, fans cannot wait to see the superstar back on screen. As for now, the Saaho duo has been cracking up well in the latest trailer and song releases from the film. The film is slated to release on 15 August 2019.

Man I love her but her PR needs to stop this. At this rate they'll say that she was the first choice for Prabhas' character also.

Before Shraddha Kapoor was finalised as the lead in Prabhas's Saaho , the makers had practically confirmed that his fellow Baahubali actress Anushka Shetty would take up the role. However, owing to contentious issues regarding her weight, the idea was dropped. But, now according to a report in BollywoodLife, after this, Alia Bhatt was approached to play Prabhas's heroine inSaaho.However, considering the heroine has barely any scenes in the film in comparison to Prabhas, Alia rejected the film.

Saaho was scripted before Bahubali series was released. So that puts the timeline anywhere before 2015 (and per the wording, I'd imagine they approached Deepika around 2013-14 or maybe before). They began shooting for Bahubali in 2013, So, 2013-2016 was easily booked to match Prabhas' schedule shooting Bahubali (assuming). 

I think Deepika was at her peak in terms of performance in 2013 (or rather, it's when I liked her the most .. don't really like her now). So the popularity might make sense. But apart from Om Shanti Om and Cocktail and Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, I'm a bit hardpressed to come up with other titles before 2013/14. 

Anyhow, most of Deepika's future releases - Xander and Padmaavat - state that Deepika was finalized around 2016. Maybe Deepika had some sort of agreement thing with SLB, but even then, she would have known in 2013-14 that she was roped into this future project so she could mark off those dates. So I'm a bit curious what kind of schedule conflicts she would have?Interesting.
