The Curious Case Of Gajar Halwa
“Are waah…Do u know ki ye hum sab ka favourite dessert hai??” Krishnaraj asks her excitedly…Taani smiles nervously…She hasn’t even tasted how it is…It doesn’t matter as she has an inkling what is about to happen…Taani gets up and goes to dining room and serves the Halwa in bowls and brings it to where everyone was sitting…She first gives is to Krishnaraj then to Rajnish and Avantika then to Arjun and Purvi and then to Rey…She then goes and stands behind the couch…Krishnaraj takes his first bite followed by his family…Taani closes her eyes tightly and also crosses her fingers afraid for the results…
“Hmm…Are waah Taani bahut accha bana hai” Krishnaraj compliments her
“Haan Taani sach mein bahut tasty hai” Rey says after his daadu
“Haan beta wakai…Aaj ke khaneke baad itna accha dessert” Rajnish praises
“Really Taani too good” Arjun follows all the praises
All are looking at Taani…Taani’s eyes have popped out of shock…She wasn’t expecting such praises…Then a thought comes in her mind…
“Kahi ye sab papa aur bhai ki tarah jhut muth ki taareef to nahi kar rahe??Aur maa aur Purvi Bhabhi bhi chup hai”
She hurriedly goes and takes her bowl to taste for herself…She hesitantly takes a spoonful of Halwa then thinks of something and lessens the quantity of her bite closes her eyes, gulps and takes a bite…Her eyes widen in shock and she is pleasantly surprised to see that Halwa was really tasty and everyone wasn’t bluffing…Everyone looks at her with amusement…
“Are ye to sach mein itna tasty bana hai…Yummmm” She happily starts munching on her Halwa…
“Ab main Bhabhi aur mumma ko call karke bataungi ki maine itna tasty halwa banaya tha” She pats herself mentally…All smiles and shakes their head…Everyone starts enjoying their Halwa…After having halwa all went to their own rooms to rest(Ab itna sab thoosa hai to neend to aayegi na)…Rey is working on his laptop and Taani is going through her phone…She logs into facebook and notices she has few friends requests and one particular request pleasantly shocks her…She quickly accepts it and starts scrolling through her feed and a thought comes in her mind and thinks for a while about changing her relationship status to married when a knock comes on the door…She goes and opens the door…A servant is standing there
“Mam aapko Babuji ne bulaya hai” Ramu Kaka says to Taani
“Ok..Please aap mujhe mam mat kahiye..Aap mujhse kaafi bade ho Kaka…Kya aap Reyansh ko sir kehte hai??” Taani asks Ramu Kaka with a frown
“Nahi..Main to unhe Rey Baba kehta hoon”
“To mujhe mam mat kahiye…Main aapke beti ki umar ki hoon…To mujhe aap Taani hi kahiye”
“Main aapko aapke naam se to nahi bula sakta…Par haan Purvi bahu ko main bahu kehta hoon to aapko choti bahu kahunga agar aapko aitraaz na ho to”
“Haan…Mujhe aitraaz kyun hoga?? Babuji matlab Dadaji ne bulaya hai na??”
“Ji haan”
“Theeke main abhi jaati hoon”Taani tells…Ramu Kaka leaves from there…Taani leaves from there and goes to Krishnaraj’s room…
“Dadaji…Aapne bulaya?” Taani knocks on the open door standing on the threshold of her room…Krishnaraj looks up from his phone
“Haan…Andar aao…Aise darvaaje pe kyun khadi ho??” Taani enters the room and stands there itself…
“Taani yaha aao” Krishnaraj calls her…Taani goes forward towards him…
“Ji Dadaji”
“Ye lo beta tumhari pehli rasoi ka gift” Krishnaraj hands her a gift…She touches his feet to take blessings…He blesses her…
“Thanku Dadaji”
“Are ye kya??Kabse dekh raha hoon mujhe Dadaji dadaji bole jaa rahi ho…Tumne kya kisiko dekha hai mujhe Dadaji bolte hue??Arjun,Rey.Purvi,Swayam,Sharon sab mujhe Daadu khete hai…Are I‘m young…Aur mujhe budho jaise treat mat karo…Theeke??Aur waise bhi ab hum friends to hai hi” Krishnaraj exclaims happily…Taani gives a confused look to him
“Maine dekha abhi facebook pe..Tumne meri friend request accept ki...To hue na hum dost??” He asks excitedly…
“Haan Dadaji” Taani says with a smile…He raises an eyebrow
“Oops..Sorry Daadu”
“That’s better” Saying this Daadu winks at her making her eyes go wide with shock looking at the cool persona of this man…Looking at her reaction he laughs and she too joins him in his laughter…At this time Rey enters the room and finds both laughing…
“Daadu kya aap meri burai kar rahe ho??” Rey asks jokingly
“Nahi to…Agar teri burai kar raha hota to ab tak Taani bhaag chuki hoti” Saying this he again laughs…Rey just pouts and Taani is enjoying this friendly banter…
“Waise Rey mujhe aaj ek nayi dost mili aur tu bhi use bahut acche se jaanta hai” Rey looks at his daadu to continue..
“To meri nayi friend se milo…Taani” Rey’s eyes widen in shock and he freezes for a moment not expecting it…Taani thinks that he didn’t liked it…Her smile disappears…Krishnaraj keenly observes this exchange and realises Rey’s reaction to this scenario and understanding dawns on him…
It’s evening…Everyone is sitting in garden on chairs and enjoying the cool weather with coffee and snacks…Arjun clears his throat gaining attention of everyone
“Rey mujhe tujhse..Actually hum sabko tujhse kuch baat karni hai” Arjun tells him while Rey thinks “Kahi sabko dopeher ki baat pata to nahi chal gayi??” Rey just nods asking Arjun to continue…
“Vo maine aaj hamare Dehradun ke farmhouse phone kiya tha aur sab clean karke rakhne ko kaha hai aur teri aur Taani ki parso ki flight ki tickets bhi arrange kar di hai…Ye le” Saying this Arjun forwards this towards Rey
“Aur haan maine waha phone karke kitchen stock karke rakhne bola hai so that you will get home cooked meal” Avantika informs him with a smirk…Rey gulps because he knows that Avantika has understood what he has done…
“Thanku Arjun bhai and maa” Taani thanks them for being so concerned and thoughtful…Rajnish smiles at his daughter in law’s formality and shyness…Just then Taani’s phone rings…She notices its her bhabhi’s phone…A smile forms on her face…
“Main abhi aayi…Bhabhi ka phone hai” Taani exclaims excited to tell her family about her success of cooking and also about the compliments she received and walks away from there…
“Taani ab bata kya hua??Main na Swayam se yahi keh rahi thi ki tere saath ek warning aani chahiye ki ‘My Cooking Is Hazardous For Everyone’ Sharon teases Taani as soon as Taani receives her phone…Taani’s mouth open in complete O but before she could reply
“To kis kisko kya kya problem hui tere khane se” Swayam asks her and she realises she is on speaker…Now before her bhai or Bhabhi could tease her further she replies in haste
“Aaj nae k miracle hi hogaya…Maine jo halwa banaya tha pata nahi bahut bahut tasty bana…Sabne mujhe kaafi compliments bhi di” Taani exclaims excitedly…
“Are tera mann rakhne ke liye kaha hoga jaise Swayam aur papa hamesha kehte hai” Sharon tells her knowing her nanand’s cooking…
“Haan Taani ab pehli baar kuch bana rahi ho…To aise to sab taareef karenge hi..Waise bhi tere sasural wale kafi sweet hai…Saalon se jaanta hoon sabko” Swayam tells her
“Nahi…Main sach keh rahi hoon…Maine khud bhi taste kiya…Bahut yummy tha…Itna yummy to Bhabhi aur maa bhi nahi banate” Taani tells angrily…Swayam and Sharon are shocked because jo ladki theek se paani nahi boil kar sakti vo gajar halwa aur vo bhi on her first attempt itna tasty…
“Accha tu keh rahi hai to bana hoga tasty” Swayam pacifies her
“What the hell Taani!!!Ab mujhse tasty tune bana liya….I don’t believe it” Sharon says
“Accha aapko mujhpe yakin nahi hai na to aap Reyansh ya phir Arjun bhai se puch lena…Vo bata denge aapko”Taani pouts angrily
“Haan puch lungi” Sharon replies
“Theeke main abhi jaake phone deti hoon unhe” Taani notices everyone discussing something
“Sab baate kar rahe hai jaise hi Reyansh free ho main unhe aapko call karne kahungi” mutters Taani and disconnects the call…
While Taani was busy talking with Sharon here with family
“Rey waise aajka halwa bahut tasty bana tha…Hai na??” Avantika teases him
“Haan Rey...Mujhe bhi bahut pasand aaya” Saying this Purvi winks at Rey
“Mujhe nahi pata tha Taani itna accha khana banati hai” Arjun comments
“Itna accha ki use ye bhi pata chal gaya ki hum sabko ilaichi powder nahi balki ilaichi daana pasand hai halwa mein” Rajnish further states while looking at Rey pointedly
“Haan…Shayad Swa..Swayam ne bataya hoga” Rey laughs nervously…Everyone gives him ‘really’ look..Rey just gulps after watching his family’s reaction…
“Ab bata bhi do Rey..Itna chupana bhi theek nahi…Tum chaho to main batadu Taani ko” Krishnaraj further teases him
“No Daadu aap Taani ko kuch nahi bologe” Rey realises what he said and tries to cover up his slip up “ I mean batane ke liye kuch hona to chahiye”
“Theek hai bata denge Taani ko ki halwa to usne banaya nahi tha” Krishnaraj further probes Rey watching his discomfort growing
“Fine…I accept…Halwa maine banaya tha…Par aap meinse koi bhi Taani ko ye baat mat batana varna use bahut hurt hoga” Rey finally confesses the truth
“Ye to hame pehle se pata hai devarji” Purvi winks at Rey
“Haan par tune Halwa kyun banaya??Vo to Taani banana wali thi na” Rajnish enquires
“Vo actually hua ye ki….”
*Flashback*
Rey was sitting in his room scrolling through his phone when suddenly he had a coughing fit…He gets up from his place and goes in his room to drink water but notices that the jug is empty…He then moves downward towards kitchen to drink water…He sees Taani moving out of kitchen to talk with her mother…He enters the kitchen…His eyes widen at the mess and some weird smell hits his nose…He ignores it and moves forward and drinks water from the bottle but all this while the smell didn’t reduced in fact it was becoming pretty strong…He starts sniffing and moves towards platform where in the container he watches an orange lump with dry fruits on top…He gets to know that the weird smell is coming from here itself…He takes a spoon and takes a small bite of it and immediately spits it out horrified
“What the hell is this supposed to be…Par Bhabhi aur maa to itna tasty khana banati hai?” He questions himself and then he remembers the mess he saw in the kitchen and Taani walking out of the kitchen and he realises that Taani plus cooking equals disaster…He then remembers that this is Taani’s pehli rasoi and while they were talking she mentioned she is going to cook Gajar Halwa…Rey panics cause clearly whatever it is is not supposed to be Gajar Halwa…He quickly takes a waste bag and throws the halwa in it then washes the serving bowl and the remaining containers so that he himself can cook it…He then prepares the Halwa and decorates it with dry fruits…He hears Taani’s voice and quickly leaves the kitchen…
*Flashback Ends*
"Haan galti hui mujhse ki maine ilaichi powder nahi dala…Warna aapko to kabhi pata nahi chalta” Huffs Rey at getting caught
“Rey tu vo bhi karta to hame pata chal jaata…Tere haat ka swaad hi itna accha aur alag hai ki hum khusboo se bhi pehchan lete” Purvi states
“Par please aap sab ko ye baat pata hai Taani ko mat batana…Use to yahi lag raha hai ki usne itna accha halwa banaya…Aur main nahi chahta ki vo itni choti baat ke liye hurt ho” Rey tries to explain his reason
“Ohho..Care to dekho janaab ki” Teases Arjun
“Nahi bhai…Aisa nahi hai…Vo bahut sensitive hai aur pata nahi vo iss baat pe kaisa react kare…Aapne usne jo Halwa banaya tha vo taste nahi kiya…Vo smell itna ajeeb tha,dikh bhi kuch aur hi raha tha aur taste ke baare mein main baat hi nahi karunga” Rey gulps remembering Taani’s cooking…Everyone laughs at Rey’s expression…Here Taani after finishing her call comes to call Rey when she overhears their conversation and without saying a word she leaves from there…

Rey is definitely a weirdo. He does care for her warna itna sab nahi karta but what was that he did in front of daadu? Why did he freeze? As he isn't her friend yet or daadu might find out something, maybe the reason for this jaldbaazi wali shaadi?😲
The family scenes are very sweet. Sorry but it's reminding me of Vivah, the movie. The close knit happy supportive leg-pulling family resembles a little to the one in the movie.
Loving this childlike innocent nature of Taani. The pride with which she narrated to her family back home on what she felt on herself for cooking a miracle was too good! Also, what the hell was that end? Please tell me that she heard entirety of what he said and not just his last line criticizing her food. Par agar pura bhi suna hoga, bura to lagne hi wala hai usse.
