Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah's leading lady Disha Vakani, who plays the funny Daya Ben has not returned to the show since 2017. She is mommy to a baby girl, Stuti who was born in November 2017. Disha is on a maternity break since then. The news was rife that Disha had quit the show a couple of months ago. However, Asit Kumarr Modi confirmed that she is still on board and they haven't ended her contract. He said, "Contract has not been closed. Character of Daya bhabhi is still there and we have not taken any actor to replace her. As and when she wants to come, we will see at that time. If mutually beneficial to both, we shall work together again."

Now, SpotboyE has reported that Modi has given an ultimatum of 30-35 days by the makers to return on the show. If she does not return, she will be replaced by another actress. A source told the portal, "Bas, ab ho gaya. Modi waited ethically how much he and his cast-crew could. Now, Modi says he will just give a concession period of a month, starting today. There has been absolutely no contact between the two parties ever since Dayaben's last day at shoot. Team Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has no problems if she wants to look after her baby but some of her demands that they would imply if she was to return, were just not easy to accept when her husband last has a word with us." On the show, it is shown that she is in her mom's house but considering it's a sitcom, it's not easy to quickly find a replacement.

The source further told the website, "Seems, Disha wanted to hanker for a bit of publicity in the media. So, she put a some throwback video. Toh dekhte hain kya hota hai. We will still welcome her warmly if she returns without unacceptable do's and don'ts. Else we are going ahead with another actress after 30 days, max 35."

It seems Disha's husband, Mayur Padia made some demands where he wanted a 100 per cent fee hike and stated that she would only shoot for four hours a day, that too for 15 days. Gia Manek, Rashami Desai and Deepika Singh are apparently the new ones being considered for the role.
