As far as I know, the show makers have been constantly communicating with George R R Martin about every minute detail. Nothing happens without Martin's consent. Everything that they have shown and are planning to show has been approved by Martin.
If the show makers had tried to twist the plot to suit their own imagination then Martin's lawyers would have sued them by now. Lawsuits are extremely common here in the U.S. I think the show is panning out exactly as Martin has envisioned.
