Ever since Ekta Kapoor announced the reboot version of Kasautii
Zindagii Kay, there has been immense excitement around the same. While
Erica Fernandes came on board quite early, there was curiosity around
who would be Anurag and Komolika. Well, teen icon Parth Samthaan has
stepped into Cezanne Khan's shoes for the new version. The presence of
these actors created enough hype in the media. The channel is also not
sparing any efforts to promote the show. And of course, Ekta got none
other than Shah Rukh Khan to introduce her new age Anurag and Prerna. We
watched the first episode and here is our review...
What is it about...
Like the original, it is the tale of a rich boy falling in love with a
middle-class girl. The fathers of the two main leads are friends but
their moms can't see eye to eye. Anurag's mom Mohini wants a rich and
elite bahu for her son, whom she gives precedence over her daughters.
The two would be lovers know each other since childhood but share a
friendship that is acutely defined by their class difference. Does love
spark after an emergency incident in Durga Pooja? Well, we have to find
out in the coming episodes...
What is hot...
The first episode is as grand as it could be. Ekta Kapoor takes us into a
world, which is so Sanjay Leela Bhansali with the huge sets, costumes
and regal air that defined Devdas. Erica Fernandes lights up the screen
as Prerna but she could improve on her dialogue delivery. Also, fans
might get a sense of deja vu after seeing her again as a Bengali, after
the memorable role of Dr Sonakshi Bose in Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi.
Coming to Parth Samthaan, he has taken a risk to break out of his image
of a teen sex symbol to be the reserved new age Anurag. The actor does
well and is a surprise package. But my pick would be Pooja Banerjee who
conveys a layer of emotions in her two-minute dialogue as the
emotionally neglected daughter, Nivedita Basu. The first episode also
captured Kolkata beautifully especially the Howrah Bridge.
What's not...
We know that Ekta wanted a younger Anurag so she chose Parth. On screen,
Erica looks at least four years elder to him though she is his junior
in college. Moreover, she looks more like a working professional and not
a college girl. The dialogues seem lost in the sets and cinematography.
We understand that they are showing Bengali culture and it is Durga
Puja but it is evident that the designing team saw too many of Bengali
daily soaps.
Verdict
Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2 is technically a very good product from Balaji.
In fact, it is one of their finest so far. But for a love story to
strike a chord, the writing needs to improve a notch higher.
