Maa Kaalratri

The 7th day of Navaratri is dedicated to Maa Kalratri, the 7th Avtar of Maa Durga. Here, Kaal means time and death and Kaalratri means the One who is the Death of Kaal. Maa Kalratri destroys ignorance and brings light into the dark. Well, this form also depicts the dark side the super power that creates havoc and removes all things bad and dirty. But to Her devotees, She brings calmness and courage.

Maa Kaalratri has dark complexion. Donkey is Her mount, She has bountiful hair and four hands. One of the two left hands holds a cleaver and the other holds a torch, and the right two hands are in "giving and "protecting mudras. She has three eyes emanate rays like lightning and Her necklace is shining like thunder. When She inhales and exhales air, flames appear through Her nostrils. Ganesha advises you to wear Blue, Read and White colour on this day.

Maa teaches us that sorrow, pain, decay, destruction and death are unavoidable and cannot be ignored. These are the truths of life and denying them is futile. We must accept their presence and significance to realise the fullness of our being and our potential.

As the navratri festivities reach to seventh day of navratri puja, devotees soak into religious activities and in goddess's Bhakti. Goddess Kalaratri is worshipped on the seventh day of Navratri pooja who is the seventh incarnation of Goddess Durga among Navdurga. It is believed that she is the most violent goddess among nine goddess of navratri. She kills the Asuras and demons before the blink of eye. Devotees should not scare with her appearance as she blesses devotees with power and renowned status and protect them with all bad evils. She is known with the other names "Shubhankari and "Kali Maa.

Seventh Day of Navratri - Goddess Kalaratri

According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Durga has to come into her most dreadful Swaroop - Devi Kalratri, to destroy cruel demon Raktabeej. There was no one in the Gods army who could kill Raktabeej because one drop of his scattered blood was able to create another embodiment of Raktabeej. Goddess Durga has to come into Kalratri avatar to kill him. She kept a Patra (vessel) to keep and assimilate whole blood of Raktabeej so that no more Raktabeej come into existence for fight. Her extreme vicious appearance while annihilating Raktabeej and other demons is immensely frightened. At the same time, she is a caring and loving goddess among Navdurga.

Seventh Day of Navratri 2018 Date:

This year in 2018, seventh day of Navratri is lying on 24th March (Saturday). The meaning of Kalratri is "Dark Moonless Night or "Kaal of Death or "Dark Night for Demons.

Goddess Kalratri eliminates all type of fears, suffers and problems from the life of devotees and fill it with calmness, power, good status and courage.

About Goddess Kalratri:

Goddess Kalratri has dark (black) complexion as dark night, tangled hair and her appearance is very fearsome. Her open hair always waves in the air, huge red eyes and open red tongue make a ferocious posture. When she breathes, dreadful flames originated from her nostrils. She is seated on a Gadarbh (Donkey). She has four hands and three eyes, which shine as red & bright with intense. In her upper left hand, she holds a cleaver (thorn of iron) while in below left hand there is a dragger (torch) in her hand. Upper right hand is in Var Mudra (blessing) while lower one is in Abhay Mudra (Protecting).

Seventh night of navratri has special significance because seventh day of navratri puja is made to awake the powers and attain siddhis. Rest of the Pooja rituals are same as devotees perform on all other days by worshipping Kalash and planets then all the family member of God and Goddess then Goddess Kalratri (Kali Maa).

Mantras for Seventh Day of Navratri Worship:

The people who chant the Goddess Kaalratri mantra and her name, evil spirits and ghost can not touch them. Devotees should also recite the "Raktabeej Daman chapter from "Saptashati Path on the seventh day of Navratri puja. Recite the below listed mantras, shlokas and stutis on the seventh day of Navratri to please the goddess Kalratri.
