Varun Dhawan, who made his Bollywood
debut with Karan Johar's Student Of The
Year has come a long way and proved his
versatility by trying his hands on varied
genres. The actor will next be seen in Shoojit
Sircar's romantic drama October which also
stars debutante Banita Sandhu.
According to a report in a leading tabloid,
Varun has slashed his fees by 50 percent for
the film. A source to the actor told the
tabloid, "When Shoojit approached him with
the script, he made it clear that it would be
another small-budget film, along the lines of
what he is known to make. Varun was quite
taken by the story and knew that he had to
be a part of the project. He readily agreed to
cut down his fee for the director."
Another source revealed, Dhawan didn't
want to burder Shoojit Sircar with his
market price. "If you see his filmography, he
has consciously mixed the masala fare with
films like Badlapur (2015) and now, October.
Varun understood that October needs to be
made on the right budget to be viable and
recover its cost. Since the film was
envisioned on a budget of Rs 20 crore, he
slashed his fee by more than 50 per cent,"
saod the trade source.
Talking about the film, Varun has earlier
said, "We are not trying to break any
stereotypes (of romantic Hindi films). Our
film is not a cliched love story, it is done to
an extent. Now we are trying to show
something new. I know the story is close to
his (Shoojit) heart. The writing is so
beautiful that I jumped in."
The actor further said that the experience of
working on the project was so enriching for
him that he wishes to reunite with Sircar
soon. "The beautiful thing even after doing
this film is that he is still on my wish-list. I
want to work with him again and again.
There is always a message in his films. And
this film too had one, which I never knew
how to tell people... Subconsciously I wanted
to say this to the people. We want to say
something that is right in front of you in life
and we never learn from it," Varun said.

Good for him i guess. Varun is someone amongst his contemporaries who seems to really care about his craft. I don't think he is the greatest actor but he tries and definitely seems serious about getting his job right which is a breath of fresh air when you have other star kids who just seem so lazy or just doing films without a damn whether it's trash or not.

I don't think he is versatile though. Barring Badlapur, all his films were masala massy hero roles. I think he needs to work on the versatility part.
