him from entering Rajasthan.

While we all know the controversy that Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat has been embroiled into, after threats for Deepika Padukone and the director, CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi has also now come under the scanner of the Karni Sena. While the film will release this Thursday, 25th January, the same day will also mark the beginning of Jaipur Literature Festival, which will be attended by Prasoon Joshi.

And with the Padmaavat row taking a violent turn with every new day, home minister Gulab Chand Kataria has assured that Joshi will be given Z level security during the festival which will end on 29th January. As per reports in TOI, the home minister said, "Required protection will be provided to Joshi from the state government, we are committed to maintain law and order in the state."

While on Friday the Rajput outfit had threatened the CBFC chief and warned him from entering the state, they had also added that he would be welcomed with shoes and chappals if he dared to do so. Prasoon is supposed to be part of a session at the JLF on 28th January. Commenting on the same, president of the fringe group Mahipal Singh Makrana told a daily that, "We don't want to hear his lecture. He has put the pride of Rajasthan at stake. How can he deliver a lecture here after humiliating us? People of Rajasthan don't want such lectures. We will protest against him.

While a leader of the Karni Sena, Ajeet Singh Mamdoli told TOI that, "It seems Bollywood personalities are taking us very lightly, words have no impact on people like Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Prasoon Joshi. Laton ke bhoot baaton se nahin mante (Stubborn people won't listen till they get a good thrashing). Karni Sena members will welcome them with shoes and chappals wherever we meet them. We have only shown the 'trailer' to Bhansali, if need be, we will show him the complete film.

"He conspired with film producers and did not call other historians for the screening. We have made it clear that he will not be allowed to attend JLF," added Mamdoli.

As if the Padmaavat team did not have much to deal with, that this new issue has taken the forefront, let's see what happens with Joshi arriving at JLF. Watch this space for more.

Prasoon Joshi Opts Out Of Jaipur Lit Festival Amidst Padmavat' Uproar
Published: January 27, 2018 4:37 PM IST

Prasoon Joshi , Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification will not be attending the Zee Jaipur Literature Festival, where he was scheduled to address a session on Sunday. The development comes in the wake of repeated threats to Joshi by the Sri Rajput Karni Sena, which, in gross defiance of the law, has gone on a rampage after the censor board cleared Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat for release. "Will not be attending JLF this year and must say will miss sharing great moments with literature and poetry lovers. I am doing this so that the dignity of the event does not get compromised or discomfort caused either to the organisers, fellow writers or the attendees. And also so that the lovers of literature get to focus on creativity and not controversy, Joshi said in a statement released by the JLF organisers on Saturday morning.

Joshi was scheduled to participate in a session titled Main aur Woh: Conversations with Myself. The Sri Rajput Karni Sena had said it would not allow Joshi to attend the Jaipur Literature Festival. "The issue around the film Padmaavat I did my job and sincerely took a sensitive and balanced call. As I have said earlier, certification was done with due processes, incorporating valid suggestions whilst staying mindful to the concerns of the society as well as to the canvas of cinema. It's sad that we are not relying on genuine peaceful dialogue. It's important that we keep mutual trust and faith in each other and our institutions so that the issues don't reach this far, Joshi added in the statement.

The Shree Rajput Karni Sena, on the other hand, welcomed censor board chief Prasoon Joshi's decision not to attend the Jaipur Literature Festival, saying that possibly the CBFC chief was repenting for his mistake at how he had hurt the sentiments of Rajputs over the film Padmaavat. Vijendra Singh, spokesperson of the organisation, said, "This comes as good news for us. We are glad that he respected the request of Karni Sena and cancelled his scheduled visit. It seems that he is repenting for his mistake at how he had hurt the sentiments of Rajputs. Realising what he has done, he is attempting to make amends it seems.Karni Sena chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi said,  "We had requested him (Joshi) to avoid this visit and he accepted our request, and hence we are quite glad. The Karni Sena and other fringe elements are protesting Padmaavat saying it distorts history.

I've never ever come across such a blatant, foolish attempt at face-saving.

OT - Prasoon joshi rightly withdrew his participation so that the dignity of the prestigious literary event will not be disrupted in any way by those extremist forces. The whole scenario clearly points to the colossal failure on the part of the state machinery and its law enforcement agencies. Their shameful silence and ineptitude are at the appalling levels. And it also goes to show that the karni sena is no more a fringe there.
