After one week
7:30 p.m xyz restaurant
As he stepped on stage, everyone started whistling for him and as soon as spotlight hit his face, people started roaring Manik Manik Manik... He smiled at them but that smile didn't reach his eyes. Why? Because its been a week he has met his mom, he was hurt to hurt his mom, but what could he do! There was no option left for him, he was not ready for marriage specially at this point where he is about to achieve what he dreamed of. He picked up guitar & started singing... Main rahoon ya na rahoon, while singing his eyes fell on a girl, who wad already looking at him while time to time sipping her drink, she was wearing a simple t-shirt with check yard trouser, hairs open, holding a drink... There was something in her eyes neither he could read them nor he could stop himself from staring at her.. Soon he finished the song and got down from the stage. He was crossing her when she spoke.
"you sang so well"
He turned around, small smile was playing on her lips, her eyes were sparkling at that time.. He too smiled and replied..
"I always sing well"
She chuckled and said
" itna guroor acha nhn hota Mr.-----"
"Manik Malhotra" he told her & continued
"well ise guroor nhn confidence kehte ha, par guroor karna bhi galat nhn agar"
He stopped abruptly
"agar?" She questioned curiously
He said pointing at her from too to bottom,
"agar itni khoobsoorat larki apko stare kar Rae ho toh"
She giggled on his statement and said,
"thanks for the compliment Mr Malhotra, but I wasn't staring at you, I was listening to the depth of your voice and observing your each expression.. Actually it was you who kept staring me"
He smiled and said,
"I wasn't staring you, I wad looking into your eyes, there is something in them which I want to read but I am not able to."
This time she smiled genuinely and said,
"it was nice meeting you Mr Malhotra"
"same here miss---"
"Mannat! Only Mannat"
He said,
"it was pleasure meeting you miss only Mannat"
They laughed slightly & shook hands..
After 2 Months
It's been two months since they met, mannat comes to the restaurant on daily basis & leaves after watching his performance.. He too notices her but they never talked to each other, one day she called him from behind.
Mannat: Mr. Malhotra
He turned around she went close to him and said,
"I have an offer for you"
He smirked & gave her I knew it look & leaned on her ear & whispered,
"I don't believe in one night stand miss only Mannat"
She gave him how cheap look & started laughing... He looked at her confusingly. She stopped laughing & and said,
"you wish Mr Malhotra"
He composed himself & spoke,
"listen I just thought"
She stopped him in mid way showing him her hand & said,
"keep your thinking aside for a while Mr Malhotra, because I am here to talk about a deal"
"which deal?" He asked confusingly..
"lets go to a peaceful place yahan bht shor hai" she said
"where?" He asked..
"come I'll take u" she said
They went to nearby cafe. Both sat down..
"so?" He asked
"Mr Malhotra! Do you know about MM labels?" She asked..
"MM labels!! That music company which got opened 5-6 weeks ago and whose owner is a London returned girl?"
"well that's incredible" she said giving him an appreciating look..
"I read this in a magazine" he cleared out..
"well that's ok I mean great! Mr Malhotra lets cone to the point" she said professionally.
"yup" he replied casually
"MM labels want to sign you for their very first album" she said he widened his eyes in shock..
After composing himself he said rather enquired
"but why me? I mean there are many talented singers in industry!"
She said clearing his confusion
"yeah u are right there are many talented singers, but we wanted to do something different, something new in short we wanted a new face a new voice.. In that case who would be better than you?"
"yeah but" he was saying something when she stopped him.
"no ifs and buts Mr Malhotra, the contract is of 6 months what do you think?" She asked him hopefully.
"I--- I need to think" he said... She smiled lightly and said,
"its ok take your time think properly" she said and took out a card from her purse.. She said giving him the card
"this is MM labels office address come there after taking your decision" she stood up, he too stood up. They shook hand & she said,
"hoping for a positive answer"
They smiled and she left.
After 1 week
Manik came to MM labels, he went to reception, as soon as receptionist heard his name, she smiled and instructed him the way to cabin.. He knocked on the door & went inside. The very next moment he was stunned to see the person in front of him...
Manik pov
Mannat was sitting on office chair, working on laptop, she raised her head & smiled as she found me there. She came to me, we shook hands & she said..
"glad to find u here Mr Malhotra"
I smiled in return & said
"since you stopped coming to the restaurant, I thought I should make a move."
She led me to the table & indicated me to sit down, while she sat on office chair. She said
"actually I was very busy these days & besides I didn't want to pressurize you"
I nodded and said "but honestly I am stunned to see you here, on this chair, I thought u are an employee" I said being honest..
"Mr Malhotra I am the owner of this company" she said
"that I know, btw what's the full form of MM?" I asked out of curiosity..
She replied instantly as if she was waiting for that,
"Mannat Manik"
I looked shockingly at her while she corrected her self,
"sorry slip of tongue, I meant to say Mr Malhotra, M for Mannat and M for Mukhti..
"Mukhti?" I questioned
"my childhood friend and business partner" she said..
Soon they signed the contract and finished all the formalities..
"Mr Malhotra I wanted to ask will u resign from the job?" She asked
"I haven't thought about it" I said
"ok" she said getting up.
"at what time should I come tomorrow?" I asked
"9:00 am" she answered
Together we went to parking, she looked around & spoke
"how will u go?" She asked
"actually my car is in garage for servicing, so I'll go by cab" I said
"come I'll drop you" she said
I couldn't get it, was that a command or a request.
"no no I'll manage" I said hesitating on her offer.
"Mr Malhotra I said I'll drop u come"
This time she said sharply.. Giving up I sat on passenger's seat while she sat on driving seat. She ignited the engine & car started moving on road. Soon we were on highway. Till now we were silent then she spoke breaking the silence.
"Mr Malhotra, on contract paper I saw you wrote your father's name Raj Malhotra.. Isn't it?"
"yeah but why are u asking that?" I asked confusingly..
"according to my knowledge late raj malhotra was the biggest business tycoon of Mumbai, are you his and nyonica Malhotra's son?
"yes" I answered confusingly..
"what? Nyonica Malhotra and raj malhotra are your parents!! She yelled on top of her voice.
"Han hain!! But is men chillane wali Kia bat ha?"
"you are one and only son of Nyonica and raj Malhotra, you work in a restaurant & and u asking me why am I shouting?"
She spoke shockingly..
"ok I know I am son of Nyonica and Raj malhotra's, (I said emphasizing my parent's name) but I wanted to do something on my own, that's why i work in that restaurant" I said clearing out her confusion.
"oh" she sighed and continued her interrogation, "who handles your business then?"
I smiled remembering my mom and replied
"My dad's wife and my lovely mom."
"hmm" she hummed
"what about ur parents?" I asked
"they live in London" she said smilingly..
"ohk" I said
Finally she stopped the car in front of my apartment. I got down & was walking inside when she called.
"Mr Malhotra"
"yeah" I turned around and said
"my driver is gonna pick up your car from garage and drop it here, just tell me the address of garage." She said
"no need to do that mannat I will manage" I called her by her name,after arguing for about 10 minutes she said angrily,
"are u telling me the address or not?"
I gave up & told her the address, she left bidding me bye...
