Kunal Jaisingh and Rahul Dev stand out in the first episode

Dil Bole Oberoi is a first of its kind attempt for Indian Television. The popularity ofIshqbaaz gave birth to the what is being termed as an offspring of the original show. Dil Bole Oberoi retains the essence of Ishqbaaz. Whether it is the lavishness or distinct personality being given to the characters, there are a lot of similarities to Ishqbaaz. The swag meter is high on the show. It has started off with the tale of Omkara (Kunal Jaisingh) and Gauri Kumari Sharma (Shrenu Parikh) in the rural town of Bareilly. It is a unique effort by the channel and let is look at what happened on episode one.

Summary
Shivaay (Nakuul Mehta) sends Om (Kunal Jaisingh) to acquire land from Kali Thakur (Rahul Dev). There he dashes against Gauri. Anika (Surbhi Chandna) calls up and the two ladies have a conversation. Kali Thakur's wife Janhavi is distressed at his decision to marry twice. Om manages to get the land. Gauri's step-mom meets with an accident and she needs money to meet the treatment costs. She comes to know that she has to vacate the land where her home is.

What is hot...
Kunal Jaisingh steals the show with his swag and performance. Shivaay Singh Oberoi might get tough competition now in the swag department. The scene where he gets emotional knowing that the Thakurain's name is Janhavi is superb. Kunal keeps it subtle and real. Rahul Dev gives a lot of flair to the part of Kali Thakur. Shrenu Parikh has likeability but the rather cliched aspects of her role take away some of the sheen. The production is a lavish one. Though she is a village gal, Shrenu aka Gauri wears salwar suits with cold shoulders with deep backs that would make normal rural girls go haw!

What is not...
The similarities to Ishqbaaz are too many. Like Anika, Gauri too has a brotherly companion. Om's character if the precap is go by, is turning out to be another SSO. And it is tough to believe that Gauri is really poor! We have to see what fresh elements the makers bring in on Dil Bole Oberoi.

Verdict
Dil Bole Oberoi looks promising especially for fans of Kunal Jaisingh. The actor delivers and how! Given the scale, it is a worthy spin-off. Ishqbaaz took some time before it caught on with the viewers. DBO seems will also take its time to capture the dil of the audience.

This is an incredibly shrewd review. It has laid down the pros and cons really well. Kunal and Rahul Dev did stand out in the first episode. And they have laid down the problems with Gauri quite well. Shrenu plays the character to the T but the fact that Gauri is another stock character reduces the likeability.

Smart review. Rahul Dev did stand out for me, and Kunal's acting was controlled. Nothing overly dramatic about it. I mostly liked his scene with Thakurain Jhanvi, because it had a really good emotional depth to it, and gave us a glimpse of the Omkara he left behind. I think his connection to Jhanvi will be his connection to the old Om, and the viewers of IB who knew the old Om will be able to connect to that. The scenes with KT were also good, where he kept his cool and was not intimidated by Khali who looked toned down but was intimidating.

Shrenu I liked. But her character is too typical. They are trying to clone a lot of previous GK heroine's and that I didn't like. Not every girl needs to talk fast, have their own dictionary and be a "do-gooder" to be an interesting character. She could still have been a "foil" for Om without being too over the top. Shrenu is a good actress and sells the character. It is HER that makes the character watchable. I think the "Anger" aspect of her character is good. I liked the fire in her.

Overall not a bad watch and Om is kept somewhat subtle, but they need to not make him do stuff like throw money. The running over the shop was not needed, but I get that was done in anger coz she referred to his parents. Then SHE chopped his car, so that was well played. However, I hope they don't make Om act TOO "Un-Om". Yes, this is a transition. But he is still the same guy. So retain more of his original personality which is what APPEALED to the people who liked his character in the first place. How well they will execute it is anyone's guess. Stop making Gauri act like Annika throwing Mud and water etc. She is not her clone. (Even if they turn out to be sisters in the future).
