67 years ago, 894 days after India became free from the British rule, a salute of 21 guns and Dr.Rajendra Prasad unfurled the Indian National flag and heralded the historic birth of the Indian Republic on January 26, 1950. Since then, every year this day is celebrated with great pride and honor all over the country.

Lahore Session of the Indian National Congress

At the midnight of 31st December 1929, the seeds of a republican nation were sowed at the Lahore sessionof the Indian National Congress under the presidency of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Those present at the session decided to get India free from the British rule on January 26, 1930. They launched the civil disobedience movement to fulfill their goal. January 26, 1930 was decided to be observed as the Purna Swaraj (Complete Independence) Day by the political parties and revolutionaries.

Indian Constituent Assembly Meetings

The Indian Constituent Assembly had its first meeting on December 9, 1946. It was constituted due to the negotiations between the Indian leaders and the members of the British Cabinet Mission. The objective of the Assembly was to give India a Constitution. Many number of committees were appointed to research the various aspects of the proposed constitution. After the Independence, the Assembly met for 166 days, spread over a period of 2 years, 11 months and 18 days before adopting the constitution. After many deliberations, discussions and modifications, the 308 members of the Assembly signed two hand-written copies of the document (one each in Hindi and English) on 24 January, 1950. Two days later, it came into effect throughout the whole nation.

The Birth of Indian Republic

Though India became a free nation on August 15, 1947, it enjoyed the true spirit of Freedom only on January 26, 1950 when the Constitution came into force. India finally became an independent republic on that day.  The Constitution gave the citizens of India the power to govern themselves by choosing their own Government. Dr.Rajendra Prasad became the first President of India and took his oath on this day.

Ever since the historic day, January 26 is celebrated with great patriotic fervor and festivities throughout the country.

Don't worry, C r a z y C r e a t i v e s brings you a sit-at-home solution of observing Republic Day and showing your love for the country- binging patriotic Bollywood Movies. Just download them or better buy an original DVD and play at the comforts of your couches. Yes! Don't forget to invite your own folks to get into the patriotic mode some more!

GANDHI (1982)

Father of our Nation, Mohandass KaramChand Gandhi! What a better way to show love for our Baapu' than to watch his biopic. Ben Kingsley immortalized himself as Gandhi in this movie as Gandhi tells his journey from South Africa to India and initiate one of a kind nonviolent campaign against British Raj.

LAGAAN (2001)

Aamir Khan's legendary film which still brings out a sense of pride for our country even after 16 years of its release. I mean who doesn't love the combination of a Cricket match, Indian villagers, mighty British Empire and of course Aamir Khan. All the while making us feel very passionate and patriotic for our country throughout the legendary Cricket match so much so that we forget that it's a fictional story. Hum along the epic patriotic song of this film,Sun mitwa, sun mitwa, tujh ko kia dar hai re. Yeh dharti apni hai, apna amber hai re!

SWADES (2004)

'We, the People!' This movie's tagline says it all. A Shahrukh Khan starrer film about a person's journey of rediscovering his love for the country and subsequently devoting his life for the country. A contrast between poverty of India and the advancements of NASA, this movie forces us to ponder, are we doing enough for our country?

RANG DE BASANTI (2006)

This film which succeeded in retelling Bhagat Singh and his comrades' story in today's era was interestingly released on 26th January as well. Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, R Madhavan and others awakened the surge of patriotism among youngsters and showed us the true meaning of being free. When a bunch of reckless college students gave their lives in an attempt to rekindle the love for our country, you will actually find yourself choking and feeling awakened.

Border (1997)

We love our Indian Army and this film by JP Dutta, a master piece fills your heart with pride, making you teary eyed and at last cry throughout the movie. Based on the 1971 war with Pakistan, Border will make you salute Indian Army.

As no celebration is complete without songs, here are few of all-time hit Hindi patriotic songs that perfectly fit your playlist on this special day.

"Maa Tujhe Salam"

Sung by A.R. Rahman, this song is set to give you goosebumps. Coupled with Rahman's wonderful voice and his melodious music, you should start the day with this track.

"Rang De Basanti"

This song from the movie of the same name will make your feet tap the ground and at the same time will make you feel the true India. Sung by Daler Mehendi, it is a new-age song but an all-time hit.

"Yeh Jo Desh Hai Tera"

From the movie "Swades", this song will be more special for Indians residing abroad. Listening to this song will make them feel like heading back to their Mother India.

Aao Baccho Tumhe Dikhayen

Crooned and written by Kavi Pradeep, this song is pictured in a school where a teacher is educating his pupils on various aspects of great India and telling them about the sacrifices made by great men in the honour of their homeland.

"Bharat humko jaan se pyaara hai"

From the film Roja, this beautiful patriotic song has been sung by Hariharan "Vande Mataram" Sung by the Nightingale of our country, Lata Mangeshkar, Vande Mataram is the national song of India. No national occasion is complete without this song being played in background. Show your love to for your country this year and download it right away in your phones.

::Hum logo ko samajh sako toh samjo dilbar jani. Sunte hai K-pop ke gaane nayi aur purani.Dramas dekhte hai saree Turkish aur Pakistani. Dou paise ke liye ladh te hai hum badhe daani,Phir bhi dil hai Hidustani!::

We may go to any corner of world, may marvel at Paris leaving Taj Mahal. We may eat agrezzi pizza leaving Maa ka desi paratha. We may listen to all types of songs from languages we never even tried to speak or we may watch movies of places from east to west, north to south. But still our heart will sing the national anthem every time we see our nation flag rise up. The Bollywood numbers will beat those K-pop songs and saas bahu shows will always turn out to be the best pass time. We may go and touch the moon but we will still land back on our nation and respect its mitti. So today on this patriotic day we shall come and show our patriotism to our nation. Are we as Hindustani as we claim we are?
