One film old Vaani Kapoor made a comeback to movies after a gap of almost three years. But even before Befikre was released, the 28-year-old received backlash for her transformation. Her first look photos from the film didn't go down too well with film enthusiasts and her alleged chin surgery only got her brickbats.
Moreover, Aditya Chopra's directorial venture got a lukewarm response at the box office when it hit the screens in December last year. But unlike her contemporaries, Vaani did not shy away from taking the blame for the box office debacle.
In an interview to Mid-Day, Vaani said that she believes that the film is ahead of its time. "I know that the film has got polarised reviews. It will get its due in the coming years story of Befikre is too ahead of its time," she told the daily. However, she added that Aditya took a risk by casting her in the film.
"I have always felt that I was the biggest risk factor and the biggest bet for Befikre because everyone else in the team had achieved something and have already proven their worth in their respective fields. I was the new face who stood a chance to be accepted or not. Aditya didn't go with the obvious choice and cast me, so somewhere I felt that if there was anything that didn't work, it was probably me," she added.
Befikre, which also stars Ranveer Singh, was a take on modern day relationships and casual hook-ups.
