So, I finally watched A Small September Affair.
It's one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen. Not only is the story surprising and profound, but the way it is told, one gets sucked right into the world of Tekin. I felt like I was actually on that island living the life of an islander.

The lead actress and the supporting cast did an excellent job. The music is ethereal. But Engin is the soul of the movie. It's not just a movie about remembering a person; it's about finding that self which we all leave behind at some point when we paint on a mask for society and our own ambitions. Tekin Bulut represents that self which is left behind.

I just had one issue with it--Tek was supposed to be ugly. But I didn't find him ugly at all. With such eyes, it is impossible.

After watching 2 months of Olene Kader, being hook, line & sinker on this drama, I sit back to laugh loudly at our sentiments which pushes us to use the right brain more often than the left brain.

Have grown on reading the Archies comics and found an uncanny familiarity with the characters definitely not with the scenario or plot.

This an attempt for cross pollination of the Olene Kader and Archies characters. Hope you folks like it.

btw I am yet to watch episode 7 with sub titles...so more laughs assured with my review :)

And finally the poster of Olene Kader as...

Lol Vids, loved the parallels drawn with the comic characters 😆 so very apt 👍🏼 Juggie kaha bhi fit nahin hua?🤔
Me too havent watched the episode yet inspite of having downloaded it. Can't bear to see Daghan and his family's sadness 😔 will watch tomm and then read your review...will enjoy it all the more

Very true Anjali, with those beautiful expressive eyes, how can any character that Engin plays ever be ugly 😛

Saw the 7th episode with subtitles.

There are 2 big mysteries in this story, as far as I can make out.

One Daghan now knows, that his child is alive.

Two, Selvi is Vildan the girl who sent him to jail.

Daghan knows one secret. Will he also come to know the second one?

In photos on facebook, Daghan is talking to Selvi near his room by the port. So, may be he doesn't know that? Mehmet heard Selvi tell Yilmaz that Daghan will be coming after him. Mehmet would have told Daghan that also. So, not sure what's going on.

But what I feel is, Daghan likes Selvi a lot. When he said 'I missed you' in the last episode he looked very genuine.

Not clear about what Ender's next action plan is. Muzaffer's life will be in danger if Shahika probes too much and tells him the truth.

Beril also, not sure what is going to happen to her. Daghan will take her back?

Baban Giderse - WHEN YOUR FATHER IS GONE
The Chaos theory as summarized by Edward Lorenz Chaos is: When the present determines the future, but the approximate present does not approximately determine the future.
Selvi is in for a crude jolt when she realizes the intentions of Daghan's surprise. Beril is stunned too, but keeps her eternal calmness. Her unprovoked move to congratulate Daghan back fires. The shield volcano erupts on the Berilisian "fault" plates. Result : Effusive lava leading to a fist n chips to accompany the cocktails!
Daghan's harakiri... Was it his way of settling scores with Beril? Or did he listen to Shakira's "Can't remember to forget you..." Ohohohoh ohohohoh while getting ready for the party??
The "breaking" news of his baba's death turns Daghan to a re-active volcano spitting lava like anger, rains like tears and smoke like clouding his mind.
The "breaking" bones affects Ender much to the chagrin of Beril who writes an imposition like a primary school kid "i am your wife, i will not repeat my mistakes...". Phew where are the fundamental rights gone? Moved to Tulsa?
The two men ask the same question to the two females who are tormenting their minds. "Who are you?".
An emotionally charged Daghan who couldn't grasp the Chernobyl disaster then, is revisted by Fukushima. Selvi cleverly plays her cards, pushes her degree, dimaag (brains), dosti (frienship) to release Daghan from the lock up.
Ender dancing to the Chainsmokers' "Closer" in the backseat of his rover smokes the same question. Beril gives the right amount of truth & left is our imagination.
This is where the conflicts of characters and its fans are mostly exploited. Superb screenplay.
Is this when AOL got a new acronym? Art Of Living/ Lying. *choose to your convenience*
E-bey Inc. meets for a keminas only emergency meeting. The stand-up meeting is quick for more action items...like safety first, bias for action and closure of any bugs (if any)
Is there an innovation to erase finger prints by soap?? Hmmm. Can we name it dabSuds. ;-)
Now any guesses for Yilmaz's bedtime stories?? Yeah baby...it gotta be Jekyll & Hyde. Jekyll is on duty when his sister visits them. Oh she too reads the same author Treasure Island adventures at E-bey, a "cons"piracy incorporated.
Did Yilmaz slip-up on giving his know-how of the party or was it a bait to freeze Selvi's mind with those games of societal fears?
Did Selvi blink when Yilmaz implicitly narrated the events? Is she going to use this information to frame him later?
The funeral scenes were gut wrenching to see Daghan going lifeless, remorse and Sabiha and Ayse feeling helpless. Werent those tear glands involuntarily faithful while viewing?
At the same faithfulness, Selvi spots her brother at the funeral. Is Yilmaz really remorse of killing an innocent Halil?
Nah...he works on the action item weakest link pruning at Team D. Call this applying Decision making algorithms for minimizing costs of life.*kill me for this profound gyan*
That night was cozy for some, confronting for others. Call it as the waxing and waning of relationship phases.
Yes a friend in need is a friend indeed. Let me rehash that Duran Duran song.."who do you friend, who do you foe, when you come undone?"
Like most of you, I also felt that "I love you" was dispositioned with a reason. Havent we heard of "your wish is my command" ? Yup the viewers wished, creatives commanded. Selvi wished, Daghan commanded.
Those constipated looks during hugs from Daghan proved that my dedication of "New Romantics" was still being heard in his cabin.
Why does Selvi try to control a Daghan on a leash? She needs to try new tricks to keep him at (e)bey!!Sic.
So did Selvi promise Ender to sharing the secret "formula" as a ransom to free Daghan?? This seems like the chinese whisper game, where the formula is now vengenance. *thumbs up*
Mehmet meets Selvi with a little suprise. The commanality of darkness mentioned is very intruiging. Is it the common impoverished backgrounds, duplicity identities, enemies which Mehmet identifies Selvi with??
Well all I care is for the swag of Mehmet Raes!! You're awesome for Team D.
Hold on to your horses...yeah. Thatz what Sahika told her daddy Muzaffer while having a little daddy-daughter time.
So Asu is a mistress of a gangster, drug lord. In her Mrs.Escobar avtar, she needs protection of her little boy!
Asu's grand child chant breaks Beril's curated mask. Yes the power of umbilical chord prevails. Maybe she isnt a monster as perceived. We surely have to sit through her story as well.
Condolences turn into circus of lip sympathies. Scenes were like a rip off from Engin's essay "Silence"
Aunt Zakire visiting Soysurs was yet another instance of her working behest of "certain" instructions. When Selvi is not paying heed to Yilmaz sibling sentiments, he brings in Zakire to add spokes??
Sahika's bluntness meets the sharp mind of Sabiha. She quickly recognises the double edge sword on her son. Abracadabra...gilli gilli woosh! Sahika is packed off.
A very subtle point to note here...Sabiha's remark that "Daghan loves people, he is bad judge of character". Why did science say like poles repel?? Infact they attract, hence Daghan-Beril were so similar with a "class" replusion!!
Daghan's return to his "home" with a new repsonsiblity was overwhelming. Even if it werent for traditions of the coat and shoes and upgrade of seat to the head of the table, children/offsprings have to pick up the baton to continue the relay of life. Quoting a few lines from Sanskrit
Punarapi jananam punarapi maranam,
Punarapi janani jatare sayanam
Iha samsaare khalu dusthare,
Krupayaa pare pahi murare.
*Born again, death again, birth again to stay in the mother's womb! It is indeed hard to cross this boundless ocean of samsara. Oh Lord! Redeem me through Thy mercy.*
In their bias for action, Ender and Daghan both shoot from Beril's shoulders. Its duece in this match. Anyone recalling that dog & bone game school days??
Beril has the courage to request Ender for a withdrawl of his complaint explaining everything under the sun, other than her little help to Daghan which she wants to give so badly.
While she visits Soysurs to give her genuine support to Daghan, he spurns her at first, warns her next and finally stops Selvi for over stepping her role. For Dagahn is an honorable man!!
A "wayfarer" Ender finds Beril entering Soysur's abode. Now what are the rear view mirrors in vehicles for? Oh for that last minute touch ups?
Beril's bear stocks rallies at Ender's stock exchange. Result - Ender is all bulls who trespasses her body.
One of the most disturbing scenes of the episode, asthetically performed and highlighted to the awareness that many woman are victims of their resident evils.
Oh there is case to work on other than romancing the hero. Ninja Selvi Hattori in her best professional mode reads the disclaimer Ender Fund investments are subject to investigation risks. Please read the Ridvan document carefully before investing in further vengence. *Uff not under those 20 seconds ads we get on air.*
But Team D is in VC mode. Their start up venture which is in incubation, doesn't buy a Selvi her equity. Some things have to be executed with utmost secrecy. Reminds me of Operation Neptune Spear. Hmmm
Mehmet seems to be solved the Dual SIM issue *Selvi Identity Module*. Is that the reason Selvi stopped changing the SIM on her handset? Ha..ha..ha.
For the actual formula lies with the word "Vildan" sister of Yilmaz. And he use that trap with elan in the end!!
Is Mehmet having past issues with Yilmaz as well??
Ayse grieving for Osman silently was another emotional tear. Why do good people also suffer? Isnt that a common question haunting us?
Yilmaz following Ayse was more like a pill for Daghan to keep off from Selvi. Sister's matter!!
My guess is that Yilmaz would like to harm (rape, kill etc) Ayse with a pretext of samartian. Was this his output of the weak link pruning?
While Daghan loaded the boot of the car with his tools, I was reminded on the Shovel Knight game left mid way on my console!
The last few scenes giving inkling of men in black chasing fast n furious for the encounter.
Its fight for the present cause. To know why Ender got Halil killed? Which leads Daghan to his future i.e Ozghur.
The Chaos theory completed.
Intense drama. Scintillating performances.
Special mention to Gulcan who plays the understated pain effortlessly, Ragip who dialates his pupil for that mood to deliver, Sarp to show that he is a smooth operator, Gizem & Serlip who made us go down with the loss of Halil, Fahriye for being that cute little girl to her foster aunt.
Finally there are something's money can't buy, for others there is MasterCard. Was this ad slogan kept in mind for an Engin Akyurek experience ??Take a bow ustaad!!
PS:
I missed Fahri in this episode.
Is Ridvan using the kickbacks from Ender for his hair transplant treatment?? Lol
Sabiha will have big role to play cuz she going to hold the Soysur fort.

The episode weighed too heavily on the heart but it had more story progression than the last one which had more romantic flavor to it. I guess the makers are alternating the thriller story with romance but I am really intrigued as to how the romance is going to continue with Selvi's alliances with Yilmaz coming to forefront.
The three scenes of the episode that stood out for me were first when in prison Daghan is reminded of his good times with his father, the poetry in the background is devine and so very aptly describ the role of a father and his loss. The scene thereafter with Engin singing is so heartbreaking... just shows how good he is in his craft. I am sure scenes like these could be really draining for the actors.
The next scene which makes you feel for the character is when Selvi is comforting a very shattered Daghan in his shack. The mere presence of a comforting soul at those times says so much about their relationship in spite of so many lies between them. This is what a companion ship is all about, to be there for someone when he or she needs you the most. Selvi is proving to be that companion to Daghan which probably he never had before... Yes there are faults with their relationship which is discussed quite often but there is also a kind of selfless devotion to each other which holds them together.
Another scene that was brilliantly written and directed was when Daghan goes to meet his family afterwards. The scene has no dialogue or antiques but it conveys so much about the family and their loss. Brilliantly acted as well.
While watching the episode it came to my mind that philosophically most of the cultural say almost the same thing about the dead and loss of family. Like "fathers never die" . It is mentioned in our Garund puran as well... another one was " a man becomes a man only after the death of his father". there are few more parallels with hindu philosophy which were mentioned about in the episode. Quite interesting that a culture so far from us has so many parallels.
I am little wary of Mehmet, though I do not doubt his intentions but the way he is helping Daghan in his endeavors, it is going to prove quite dangerous for him. Prison and court as well as dangers from Ender and his team not being very far from him if he continues like this... anyways looking forward to the next episode with so many revelations in this episode...

>> Yes every time Selvi mentions the "she will burn for him", it has all the indications of her losing her life protecting Daghan.
There are several issues with Selvi's case now. I will post it separately.

>> OMG!! I got goose bumps watching them. In between those sobs, dry throat, he did hum those lines which were dear to him.
It was master piece from Engin!!

>>Selvi was indeed helping Daghan come out of the shock. But what i dont understand is that she quickly gets into control freak mode. Like asking for the formula. So its little humane touch n back to business.
No wonder Engin gives that "love" to her, to fox her easily. His love is her weakness. But its hard to earn that now.
If Beril moves in, she has competition!!

>> Yeah as cradles of human civilizations we have formed the same framework for our emotional needs, now called as religion or faith.
Glad you put back the Garuda Puran here :)

>> Believe the Mehmet is good mentor for Team D. Yet to see negative side. Those vibes are his love to play devil's advocate!! LOL

Finally we get to see some scenes for Beril. For i believe that without a Beril and her past, this story has no meat. We need her story to pace up asap.

btw there will be no telecast today. Atv has to air the Turkish Football league finals at 8pm.
