Rimi Sen was born on 21 September 1981 as Shubhomitra Sen in Kolkata, West Bengal. She completed her schooling from Bidya Bharati Girls' High School and her graduation in Commerce from University of Calcutta. Rimi is a trained Odissi dancer.
Since childhood Rimi nursed the dream of becoming an actress. After completing her studies, she persuaded her mother to accompany her in Mumbai. She later said that she wasn't encouraged by anyone in her family except for her grandfather. After doing the rounds, she got into ads including one Coca-Cola ad with Aamir Khan. She was instantly noticed and her first offer for films started rolling in. Rimi made her debut as a lead actress in Telugu movie Nee Thodu Kavali. Her debut Hindi film, Vijay Galani's Hungama, released in 2003. It was a comedy film, in which she co-starred with Akshay Khanna, Aftab Shivdasani, Paresh Rawal, as well as other actors. She followed it with appearance in big budget movies like Baghban (2003), Dhoom (2004), Kyon Ki (2005), Garam Masala (2005) and Golmaal (2006). She also did a cameo in 2006 film Dhoom 2, followed by Hattrick and Johnny Gaddaar in 2007 . In 2008, she appeared in De Taali and in Sankat City and Horn Ok Pleasse in 2009. She further appeared in the films Thank you and Shagird in 2011. She also acted in many Bengali and Telugu films.
In 2015, she participated in the ninth season of the Indian version of Big Brother, Bigg Boss 9 - Double Trouble. Even though she got eliminated in the seventh week, she won millions of hearts with her dignified stay in the show, keeping her calm throughout & staying strong!! Rimi, your fans will always love & support you ❤️
