Chapter 3

"Phew!! What a day!!" Nandini thought as she got off her bike and parked the bike outside Pizza Delivery Hut and walked inside.
Boss: Nandini itni late?? Tumse kaha tha jaldi karke aane ko aur abhi past 1. pm??
Nandini: Wo boss...sorry! Raste main traffic thi!
Boss: I cannot tolerate people being late in work. Ye aage se nahi chalega, got it??
Nandini: Ji sir...
Boss: Here's the money for today's work. Aaj first day hai tho half day hi kaam karne hai! Kal se full-time kaam karna padega.
Nandini took the money from the boss as she shook her head obediently.
Nandini put the money in her jeans pocket as she got onto her bike once again.
"Pata nahi kab tak..kab tak mujhe life main suffer karte rehna padega."
Nandini noticed a couple walking past holding hands. She wished that there was a day when there would be someone in her life who would hold her hand gently like the guy held the girl's hand.
"Manik?? Why are you calling me at this time of the day??" Alya asked lying lazily on her bed.
"Alya...U know na? Tum mere liye habit ban chuki ho. Even in U.S. I was missing you.." Manik said with a smile on his face.
"Yah..Manik...I know you really well..bachpan se aise ek bhi time hue hai when you stayed away from me? School main bhi hamesha daudke aaya karte the mere saath lunch share karne liye" Alya said with a little laugh.
"Yaar..U really make me sound like a chipku type." Manik pouted.
"Haan you are one! But then..that makes you even more lovable. Haina?? Waise U.S. main tumhaare koi girlfriends hue kya?" Alya asked with a smile on her face.
"Girlfriends?? Jab tum mere life main ho..how can I think of anybody else?" Manik asked lying down on his bed.
"Naughty!! You are such a flirt Manik" Alya said with a little laugh.
"Haan yaar..you'll think that way only! waise tumhaare aur Dhruv ke jhagde ka kya hua? Is he still following you around?" Manik asked lying down sideways propping his one hand against his head.
"Dhruv?? That's a different story entirely! He is still not trying to get to me! Lagta hai..ke mere abroad jaane se he is upset with me! But then I had no other option too! Has it ever been that Alya listened to others' words?" Alya asked with a little laugh.
"Haan...tum na bechare Dhruv ko apne beeche aise ghumaate rehte ho! He has become like your pet rabbit" Manik said with a laugh.
"If he gets to know that you are talking to me..he'll feel upset" Alya said with a laugh.
"Na..he won't. He knows that however much I follow you around..you will not care about me" Manik said with a sad expression on his face.
"Arre...now you made me sound so cruel" Alya said with a pout.
"Haan cruel hi tho ho..U made me follow you around for 12 long years" Manik said with a smile.
"Yaar..who told you to follow me around?" Alya asked sitting on a chair nearby.
"Your eyes told me.." Manik said with a little smirk.
"Eyes?? Manik..aur koi bahaana nahi mila to follow me around? Koi tho better excuse banaate na?" Alya asked with a laugh. "Ok achcha! I've got to go now..I have a meeting with an investor and he is coming to meet me soon!"
"Ok..Alya..we'll meet tonight and then we'll celebrate my comeback, what say?" Manik asked with a huge smile.
"Ya sure! I'll be visiting you today!" Alya said with a little smile as she cut the call.
"Manik...he has always been somebody who followed me around. But I never had any feelings for him. Yes he surely is a great friend, but I always considered him as a friend only. But to him..he cannot forget me...cannot stay away from me. He has been somebody who always admired me since my school days. When I cried..he used to buy me icecream..do my homeworks, share jokes and always made me laugh. But I never could give back the love he expected from me. There was only a feeling of friendship towards him. Then I met Dhruv and I realized what true love is." 😳
"Nanduu..tu wapas aa gayi?? Aaj pehla din kaise raha?" Vimla asked curiously as she looked at Nandu. "It was alright, mom..achcha Navya kahan hai? Aaj tho uske class half day haina?" Nandini asked curiously.
"Aah!! Navya?? abhi tak nahi aayi..pata nahi kahan reh gayi!" Vimla said looking at the entrance of their house.
"Wait main check karke aati hoon! Shayad chachu ke coffee shop main apne friends ke saath gappe maar rahi hogi!' Nandini said as she put back her shoes.
"Nanduu tu kahan bhagi jaa rahi hai?? Khaake jaa abhi!" Vimla said in a concerned tone.
"Mom! Navya ko leke aati hoon..phir hum saath lunch karenge" Nandini said as she closed the main door behind her.
"Nandini..doosron se alag hai. Jaideep chahta tha ke jab bhi uska pehla bachcha ho tho wo beta ho. Jab meri pehli beti hui..tho main chahti thi ke usko bhi sajaaoon sawaaroon...magar Jaideep chahta tha ke Nandini beti bhi ho aur beta bhi. Isliye Jaideep ne usko ladkon jaise kapde pehnaane shuroo kiye. Aise karte karte Nandini ladkon jaisi ban gayi aur apni beti ko sawaarne ke mere armaan poore kiye Navya ne.
Ek beta..aur ek beti jaisi lagti hai kabhi kabhi..jab bhi main Nandini aur Navya ko dekhti hoon." Vimla thought as she sighed and got back to making dolls.
"Chachuu...kya Navya andar hai??" Nandini asked curiously as she peeped into the coffee shop. Now this coffee shop is almost empty. It was earlier one of the most successful businesses, but then, nearby many hotels came up nearby and the business of the coffee shop slowed down. There were very few loyal visitors to the coffee shop and Navya also brought her friends from class to the coffee shop to drink coffee. This was her way of helping her chachu with business too.
Navya was sitting on one of the chairs alone as she sipped some coffee.
"Nanduu tu yahan? Aakhir mujhe dhoond hi liye tuune!" Navya said with a huge smile.
"Haan mujhe tho pata hi rehte hai ke tu kahan kahan ho sakti hain" Nandini said as she sat lazily on the chair opposite Navya.
Suddenly a guy who sat a bit away from Nandini and Navya got up and walked towards them. He went upto Navya and said to her "Navya...I'm in love with you...I'm here for so many days and gave you so many love letters! Can't you accept me as your boyfriend?"
Nandini looked with shock at the guy and he got close and sat next to Navya.
"Ok..now who's this Navya?" Nandini asked looking lazily at Kabir.
" Hum?? Humko Kabir ke naam se duniya pukaarte hai." Kabir said in a bit filmy style.
"Kabir?? Kaun Kabir?? Iske saath tera kya rishta hai?" Nandini asked looking at Navya with a confused expression on her face.
"Abeyyy!! Tu meri Navya ke peeche pada hai?? Navyaaa?? Kya ye teri nayi boyfriend hai?? Please tu kisi aur ko mat accept kar!! Mujhe hi boyfriend banaa lee na!!" Kabir pleaded with Navya.
Nandini cocked her head sideways and asked Navya
"Ye paagal hai kya??"
"Paagal honge tere baap, dada, pardaada! Main paagal nahi meri Navya ke pyaar main khaayal hoon" Kabir continued to speak in a filmy style.
"Ye namoona kahan se aa gaya?? Tu isko jaanti hai? Agar ye koi lafanga hai tho iski tho dhulaai zor se hogi!" Nandini said clenching her fist.
"Areee tu kya meri dhulaayi karega? Main tujhe washing machine main daal doonga samjhe? Main karate main black belt hoon" Kabir said jumping up and striking a pose.
"Haan...aur ye mera boyfriend..Taekwando ke teacher hai!" Navya said with a naughty smile on her face.
Nandini looked with a confused look on her face as she whispered "Boyfriend??"
"Kyaaa?? Tune already boyfriend ko appoint kar liye?? Mera kya hoga??" Kabir asked with a sad look on his face. 😭
"Tu na..queue main khade reh! Mere ye boyfriend ko na tu khaane ke competition main bhi haraa nahi paayega" Navya said with an evil smile on her face. 😈
"Khaane ke competition?? Arreee tere ye naye boyfriend ko mere eating skills ke baare main pata bhi nahi!! Main jab khaata hoon na..tho khaana khud ko dhoondne lagte hai" Kabir said proudly.
"Achcha?? Really??" Nandini whispered enjoying this new challenge. "Chal agar tune mujhe eating competition main haraa diye tho teri dhulaayi nahi karenge! Tho ready or not??"
"Yes completely ready!! Aaj ka khaana mere oopar, I'll pay the bills!! Paaswaale hotel se mangwaayenge chinese aur phir hum shuroo karenge competition!"
"Ya!! I'm in!!" Nandini said with an evil smile on her face.
Suddenly Kabir asked "Tujhse poochna tho bhool hi gaya..tera naam kya hai?"
"Nandu!! Nandu naam hai mera" Nandini said as she rolled up the sleeves of her shirt preparing to start the eating competition.
"Ye ek bahaana hai aakhir apne pet bharne ka warna tho dailywaale rukhi sookhi roti se kaam chalana padta...this is once in a lifetime chance for some delicious food, Nandu!! Yummy! Chal abhi tayyar ho jaa!" Nandini thought to herself as she cracked her knuckles enthusiastically.
