o what an episode that was!
First the discussion between Rama and guru Vishwamitra

And then the gyan Sabha ...

The episode beautifully looked at three distinct but vital aspects and beautifully unified them,

And these three were - Love, Gyan and Satya

And this was echoed in both the gurukul and in the gyan Sabha

True love - does it invoke fear, or does it make you fearless?

Love that is free of all expectations, and love that is pure is both fearless and liberating, as Rama and Sita learned today - Rama sombrely and Sita bright eyed and rapturously, honoured to witness all the gurus.

Probably this is the foundation on which their relationship too will be built

As does true love, true gyan too sets you free and gives you courage, again we saw both Rama and Sita learn this parallely

And true gyan is nothing but the search for truth...

So truth love and gyan but seem to three corners of the shrishti

We saw in Gargi today, fearlessness born of knowledge, which was mistaken for disrespect by Sita's mother, but in her we also saw great humility, as she acknowledged superior intellect!

So hats off to the writers today, for a beautifully synergised episode, where Rama and Sita learn the same fundamental truths which will be their guiding forces in their life together that love, knowledge and truth are all different paths to the same destination - self realisation !!!!

The wide eyed Sita as she sat there fascinated, overwhelmed and excited at the enlightenment that she received from the great sages - this child is simply an amazing actor !!!

If yesterday Sita learned about food that nourishes our body, today she got plenty of food for thought!

Ya, I was surprised too, but there was a full fledged episode too. Just happened to have the tv on luckily.

I thought it was only Monday to Friday...

Thanks for this post.
The episode is truly beautiful today.
Hats off for the entire conceptualization.
Excellent writing as well as dialogues.

Do not know if Ram actually had such a nightmare and shared his fears with his guru Vasishth...or Sita is actually a part of Gyan sabha...and Gargi actually asked that question to Yagnavalkya...but after witnessing the episode, personally do not care for the 'truth'.

The writers and director have done an amazing job in chalking out both the situations, which tell us the character development of both Ram and Sita...individually and in parallel.

Now, this is what we want to know...how Ram and Sita have become what they are., humans with great virtues., which made them Godly incarnations.

Kudos once again to the writers who are sincerely showing this aspect of foundation wrt both their characterizations.

Yes I too don't know whether Rama had such nightmares or not, but this emphasised his being a part of a legacy and his connection with his ancestors. He always upheld the maryada of the suryavansh, and this conversation made him aware of his being a part of a lineage and not just the son of his parents.

So I guess the nightmare had a purpose ...

If Sita was part of a gyan Sabha - it is likely, as Janaka did invite learned men to debates and discussions.

And as for Gargi and Yagnavalkya discussion, there is some reference to this, so this too is not a new creation.

And as for the 'true story' , mythology is a living breathing culture that grows across generations, with different people at different times and places adding their own consciousness and sensibilities to it.

So, if the present day makers have decided to add their spin to it, why, all the better, it will enrich the story further!

A round of applause for this beautiful post of urs.👏

The show has been a revelation so far...and for someone like me, who is not steeped in mythology to debate if the scenes shown are true or not, the show has been fantastic...loving the subtle acting from the cast...and the outdoor scenes are as good as any top class movie. The pace has been wonderful too. Cannot wait for next week's episodes.

@Arshcis yesterday's epi was a beauty. Not to be missed. I loved the way Vashisth explained Knowledge to Ram. Till you get the knowledge that liberates you, always be a seeker. Isnt that true. our schools and colleges lay the foundation for getting the knowledge, or start the thirst of knowledge in us. But it is the life that teaches us the application of knowledge. It is the life situation and the way we react to it gives us more knowledge and no wonder it is said that every minute we learn something.
Same is the case with Love and Truth. Both are liberating forces, but if they are not then we do not have the right knowledge about them. It again asks us point inward than outward for the inadequacies we are facing.

Another aspect they showed yesterday was how a person with true knowledge behave through yagnavalkya. Sunaina says Gargi questions and her questions can anger any rishi. Why should a question anger someone. There can be 2 reasons, either they dont know the answer and their ego is hurt, 2nd they dont want to give the answer as the answer will be in conflict with the action they are doing. So to cover up their intentions they put the blame on the person asking question. And questioning is discouraged so that the set rules are not affected or set power systems doesnt change.

But look at Yagyavalkya he answered Gargi's questions with pleasantness. He didnt disrespect any question she asked.

And it is to give credit to Gargi also that she accepted defeat with humility in front of Yagyavalkya's knowledge. I had put in some other post also. We have the right to question. But it should not be to blame or belittle another person, but to gain knowledge. And if we get what we want we have to appreciate the person who gave us that piece of knowledge. Bowing in front of knowledge is never a defeat, but the mark of a true seeker of knowledge. That's why I liked when Sita says it is difficult to accept defeat.

This epi was, as I said, about food for the soul and mind, just as the previous one was food that nourishes the body.

And episodes like this enrich us and open our eyes too to that knowledge is way beyond the facts and figures we learn in school, it is about enlightenment of self.
