"It may be hard, annoying, awkward and irritating. But admit it, you're going to miss it when it ends"

-Unknown

Every person out there feels an overwhelming sense of nostalgia when they travel down the memory lane of their school days.

The corridors that used to be full of chatter, those dull classrooms that lit up bright with the presence of your classmates and the place where you sat for years surrounded by the people who filled your school years with the warmth of their friendship and gave you so many evocative memories, some good and some bad...

The lecturers you cursed for the never ending assignments and homework, those boring hours when you kept glaring at your watch to tick by faster, those special days where you could escape the mundane school routine with school programs and functions, those painful sit-ups you had to endure when you got caught doing something and then end up laughing about them later on with your friends...

Let's open the door to yesterday and re-visit all the reasons why high school was the best partof your life...

1. High school is where you find your bridesmaids, not your groom.

When you fight like tom and jerry one moment, and then make up behaving like jai and veeru the next you know you are in high school. It is the time of our lives where we forge friendships that are truly eternal and no matter how many people we meet afterwards, school friends always remain special because they were the best part of our childhood.

2. Kyunki ye andar ki baat hai

(It's an inside thing)

From teasing your best friend with the name of the person they hated most to the inside jokes that only took one glance to leave you both in splits without even a single word. The best"Remember the days when.." stories to share when you grow up are woven in school.

3. "Agar tu nahi ja raha toh mai bhi nahi jaunga"

("If you're not going, then even I'm not going")

What is the point of going to school if your friend isn't going? The amount of plotting and planning done to take a sick day off of school, when you aren't actually ill, would have put the contestants of Roadies to shame!

4. The two best periods in school are- 'Recess' and 'Lunch'

No buffet lunch or a Five star meal can ever come close to the feeling of 10 people cramming together into two tiny benches and forgetting which box belongs to whom while you eat a little of everything like it is your own.

5. There are somethings you can't do without becoming the best of friends - tackling 20 page assignments in 20 minutes is one of them.

Home-work is the eternal bane of every student's existence which doesn't let us forget it even if we try. Still some of the fondest memories stem from the times when assignments were copied at a speed which would've beaten a formula 1 racer and convincing the nerdy kid sitting on the front bench not to remind the teacher about the home-work or the test.

6. "We are friends, but always remember if you fall, I will pick you up only after I finish laughing"

Getting your friend into trouble with the most strict teacher is the task which every loyal friend fulfilled with utmost devotion. The fact that you would be the first to start cursing the teacher for being so harsh is another matter though.

7. Stomach, meet butterflies

Crushes are an inseparable part of the school experience. The "I am the luckiest person in the world" feeling when the teacher makes you sit with your crush to doing"FLAMES" with the name of your crush and jumping with joy when it comes Marriage or Lovers like it is the crystal ball that predicts the future or being heart broken when you are termed as Enemies is something all of us have been through at-least once.

8. Be yourself, everyone else is taken

Teenage years are the defining years in everyone's life. This is when we finally develop the "Main apni favorite hun" philosophy and finally let go of trying to be someone else and realise we are great the way we are, and are becoming the person we are meant to be.

9. Hakuna Matata

The worst thing that could happen was a "B" on a test and your biggest worry was the math test the next day. The thing kids don't realise when they are experiencing it and which everyone misses once they pass this phase is the simple, care-free moments without any stress, dead lines or responsibilites.

10. "Ek games period ki keemat tum kya jano teacher babu"

("How would you know the worth of a Games Period, my dear Teacher?"

The moment of sheer collective joy of the entire class when you come to know that the theory teacher is absent and you are given an extra games period is something that can't even be matched by the feeling of becoming Slum-Dog millionaire.

11. "Chote Tera Budday Aaya"

(" Buddy, your birthday has arrived!")

The awkward chorus singing -"Haaappyy Birthday to youuu" while you stand in-front of the whole class like a specimen being studied, distributing chocolates to everyone, giving your besties extra pieces, and the inevitable birthday bumps. No matter how much you said you hated it, the feeling of birthday celebration in school can't be recreated.

12. A friend is the best teacher.

Wasting hours and days in the name of group studies? We've all been there. But the 5 minute classes your friend gives to summarize the whole subject before the exam is something no teacher can ever match.

13. "Ye kya likha hai yaar?" "Pata nahi bas waise design bana de"

("Friend, What word is this?" "I don't know man, Just make the same design")

The true team spirit and helping nature of every student comes out only during exams. Right from passing papers, developing sign language to communicate multiple choice bits to sneaking into each other's papers when the teacher isn't looking, covert spies could take a few tips from students appearing in exams.

14. "You are the worst class I have ever had to teach", said every teacher in every class.

Even punishment becomes fun when you have friends to share it with. The lectures the teachers delivered with the dreadful marks was something you could not help but laugh at and then you would get lectured further for being reckless.

15. You don't remember the days, you remember the moments

No matter if you loved school or hated it, no one can escape missing school when independence day or republic day comes along. When happiness meant dressing up in your white dress and going to school to collect your packet of sweet and mixture...

16. The most awaited event of the year!

Celebrities won't be as excited for red carpet award functions as we were for the school annual day. The preparations would start months ahead, everything would be immersed in a festive feel. It couldn't get bigger than that.

17. Men are from mars, Women are from Venus

Scientists could one day figure out if the egg came first or the chicken but this eternal debate of who is the smarter sex will never reach its conclusion. Still it was always fun fighting it out. The verbal battles as well as the physical ones to prove who is better will always remain a prominent picture when we take a stroll down memory lane.

18. Rules are meant to be broken

Be it hiding during assembly and physical training hours or redecorating our school uniforms, finding innovative ways to break rules is a part of every student's curriculum.

19. Students use more butter than any Indian sweet shop ever could.!

The most scariest part of any student's life is "Parent-Teacher Meet" when two equally dreadful forces in your life meet with the common goal of criticising you. And thus begin the endless buttering sessions to please both parties not to screw you over too bad.

20. The simplicity of it all

Conversations were face to face instead of text-to-text. There were fights but no grudges. And one person only came with one face instead of 10 replaceable ones. We trusted easily and loved unconditionally. And that simplicity of school life is the best part that made everything else related to that time so special and endearing.
