Sometime in May 2012, TV audiences switched on their TVs to view a spectacle they had never been treated to earlier. The entry of Mr. ShivRaj Shekhar, to-be consort of our beloved chidakali ' Anandi.
And what a treat that was - eye-candy for many, heartthrob for many more, and the ideal husband for almost all of us - Shiv (played capably by Siddharth Shukla). Girls and women alike found a new muse...and TVdom a new superhero!
And Anandi, our beloved, withdrawn yet feisty, quiet yet bubbly, daintily beautiful, and needing only her eyes to speak volumes, changed in our eyes. Or we changed her - seeing ourselves in her, our dreams in her dreaming eyes, and our hopes in her hopeful glances at Shiv.
We started idolizing Anandi and Shiv (AnSh) as the perfect reel couple. Their scenes together became the highlight of our day (or night - depending on where you were in the world). We watched the sparks they struck off each other. Never before had we seen such chemistry on the small screen.
And then the news segments began. We all watched as Siddharth and Pratyusha Banerjee (our Anandi) bantered, and laughed, and giggled. Their chemistry off screen flamed even brighter than on screen. They enraptured us. They claimed us. They lured us into the world of SidYusha.
SIDdharth Shukla + PratYUSHA Bannerjee = ❤️ SidYusha ❤️
The perfect name for the perfect pair.
Our lives changed yet again. We waited eagerly for these off screen glimpses. We saw the camaraderie. We saw the friendship. We saw their bonding. And slowly, oh, so slowly, each one of us longed for something more. Our "what-ifs" grew. We built a castle of dreams and used the on screen pairing of Ansh to fuel those dreams. And yes, no one told the other (openly) of what they were dreaming! 😳
AnSh grew hotter on screen; we feared for our TV sets. We imagined it cracking down the middle when the much-awaited AnSh Suhaag Raat arrived. We waited with bated breaths, seeing the sizzling chemistry, biology, and physics between SidYusha.
And yes, no matter what anyone says, it was SidYusha working their perfect magic, breathing life into AnSh. Whether it was because of their friendship, their freedom with each other, their happy naughtiness, or something else is a matter of conjecture (or not, depending on your own perspective).
We saw the prelude of the Suhaag Raat, imagined the confession, and drooled over the to-be fireworks. For a period of 2 weeks, we were in AnSh bliss.
And then the axe dropped, and how! We lost our Pratyusha to the vagaries of time. What the reasons were, are again a matter of conjecture. And with that, we lost SidYusha. Our SidYusha, who brought us hope and joy, and a smile to our faces.
We mourned, and we mourned long and hard. 😭 Amazing that was. How did we get so attached to a TV couple who doesn't even know us? People mocked us, laughed at us, and hounded us. But, to no avail. We were in pain (and still are, in many respects).
That is the magic of SidYusha.
Beyond reason, beyond logic, and beyond comparisons.
And now, when we are saner, we decided to keep our SidYusha alive. Because they are what made Balika Vadhu so entertaining for us. And because they are not bounded by any one show. We live in hope that we will see them together on screen again. And we keep our fondest memories alive through this Fan Club.
Viva La SidYusha!
More power to you!
