Shivaji rose from a heir of a minor chieftain to an independent king and built a vast and powerful Maratha empire. His rule was based on indigenous values. His life is full of valour and astute incidents. At the height of the Maratha Empire, it encompassed all of India!
His birthday, 19th Feb. is observed as the Shivaji Jayanti.

And what is the connection to our Maharana Pratap? well as I have said many times, Maharana Pratap used guerilla warfare and those tactics were passed down to the Marathas who used them against the mughals!!
