Pratap had 11 wives, 17 sons and 5 daughters

After Sony TV Bharat Ka Veer Putra Maharana Pratap went on air, almost everybody wanted to know about the personal life of Maharana Pratap. No wonder, our history textbooks only focused on his love towards the Rajputana soil and the famous Battle of Haldighati. While we were always bestowed with lots of information on his fights, strategies and even his loyal horse Chetak, never ever we were given the details of his family, that is, his wives and his sons. Let us now focus on the Personal Life of Maharana Pratap which revolves mainly around his wives and his sons.

Maharana Pratap and His Marriages

Maharana Pratap being the head of the Sisodia clan and the ruler of Mewar had lots of responsibility towards Mewar. His duty was not only to protect the region from Mughals but also to restrict the Rajput kings from joining hands with the Mughals. Back then, many of the Rajput rulers gave their hands to Mughal King Akbar to avoid any possible attacks over their region.

This was strictly against Maharana Pratap's principle and perhaps that is why over the years Maharana Pratap married many of the Rajput Princess mainly for political alliances. Maharana Pratap altogether had 11 wives and 25 sons.

Maharani Ajabdeh Punwar

Maharani Ajadeh was the first wife of Maharana Pratap. He married her at the age of 17 in the year 1557. Out of this wedlock was born Maharana Pratap's first son and successorAmar Singh I in the year 1559. The producer of the TV serial Bharat Ka Veer Putra Maharana Pratap, Contiloe Entertainment claims that Ajabde and Pratap were best friends who fell in love before they became husband and wife.

Amar Singh

Although, this can be possible going by the assumption that Ajabde's father was a samanth in Uday Singh's court, there is no document that support this basis. Ajabde had one more son Bhagawandas.

Rani Solankhinpurbai

She was 2nd wife of Maharana Pratap and had two sons Kunwar Gopal and Kunwar Sahas Mal (Third Son). Sahas Mal is the founder and ancestor of the Rawats of the Dhariawad Estate and so he is also the First Kunwar Saheb of Dhariawad. His successor was Kunwar Bhupat Ram.

Rani Champa Bai Jhati

The third wife of Maharana Pratap had three sons - Kunwar Kachra Singh, Kunwar Sanwal Das Singh and Kunwar Durjan Singh. While, Kunwar Kachra Singh was given the jagir of Jolawas, a place in the Gogunda tehsil of Udaipur district, the details of other two sons are not known.

Rani Jasobai Chauhan

Rani Jasobai Chauhan was the fourth wife of Maharana Pratap and their only son together was Kunwar Kalyan Das/Kunwar Kalyan Singh. He was granted the jagir of Parsad (Parshad) area near Udaipur.

Rani Phool Bai Rathore

Maharana Pratap's fifth wife is Phool Bai Rathore aka Phool Kanwar shown in the current track of Sony TV Maharana Pratap. Her son Kunwar Chanda Singh is often mentioned as second son of Maharana Pratap. He was given the jagir of Anjana. Phool Bai Rathore also had another son named Thakur Shekha Singh. Now, Shekha Singh was fourth son of Pratap, next only to Sahas Mal, the son of his second wife. He was granted the jagirs of Bera and Nana.

Rani Shahmati Bai Hada

Pratap married a Hada princess Shahmati Bai Hada and made her his 6th wife. Back then Hadas were the rulers of Kota and Bundi. They together had a son named Pura. Pura or Kunwar Puran Mal was the 11th son of the 12th Marahana of Udaipur. Puran Mal is the first Thakur of the jagir of Mangrop in the present Bhilwara district of Udaipur. Mangrops are the ancestor of yet another Raput Clan - "Purawat".

Rani Khichar Ashabai

The 7th wife had two sons - Kunwar Hathi Singh and Kunwar Ram Singh. The region of Manakari and Udlias was given to Ram Singh and Hathi Singh was appointed to take care of three different jagirs - Vais, Dantra and Gendlya.

Rani Alamdebai Chauhan

Maharana Pratap married a princess from the Chauhan Clan and made his 8th wife. She gave birth to Kunwar Jaswant Singh who took care of Jalod and Karunda jagirs.

Rani Ratnawati Parmar

Maharana Pratap's 9th wife Ratnawati Parmar is highly assumed as Maharani Ajabade's sister. According to Contiloe Entertainment, Maharani Ajabdeh's last wishes was to see her sister Ratnawati as Maharana Pratap's wife. She had a son named Kunwar Maal Singh.

Rani AmarBai Rathore and Rani Lakhabai

Maharana Pratap's 10th and 11th wife was Amarbai Rathore and Lakhabai respectively. Amarbai's son was Kunwar Natha Singh while Lakhabai's son was Kunwar Raibhana Singh.

Besides, these 11 wives and 17 sons, Maharana Pratap Singh had 5 daughters as well. No wonder during his stay in jungles, his daughter's hunger and plight made him write the famous letter to the Mughal Emperor Akbar.
