The story is about a woman who runs a marriage hall by the name of Kumkum Bhagya with the income of which she carries on the expenses of her family which comprises of her mother-in-law.
and two young daughters whom she wants to see getting married and settled in life. The two daughters are poles apart with the elder one Pragya being the kind hearted, hardworking girl while younger one Bulbul is a happy go lucky youngster who loves Rockstar Abhi . Pragya's neighbor Suresh who is also her colleague at college is a geeky, righteous professor.pragya breaks her wedding with Tarun because her inlaws askd kumkum bhagya hall in dahej. When Pragya's wedding gets cancelled Suresh helped the family in stressful times, everyone thinks that he and Pragya will make a nice pair and everyone forced pragya to believe Suresh loves her so she startd loving him, but in fact instead of being Pragya's secret admirer he is actually in love with Bulbul who always makes fun of him.
Suresh's mother and sister came to stay in pragya's home, they fixed Suresh-pragya wedding. Suresh thought he was getting engaged with bulbul, but he was shocked to know he was going to marry pragya.that night pragya happend to read Suresh's diary and she was shattered knowing Suresh actually loves her sister, bulbul.she questions him for hiding his love, he said it was all a misunderstanding!pragya told him they will remain best friends,always.
Pragya meets Rockstar abhi, who is someone who apart from singing in
concerts and despite being rich is shown as someone who can do anything for money.their every meetings were bitter moment for both of them, they vowed not to meet again.Abhi is in love with super model Tannu. Bulbul starts working in Purab's company, who is abhi's best buddy and manager, bulbul and purab always fights and bulbul hates him, but slowly both falled for eachother and they confessed theit love.Suresh's sister rachna was pregnant with Akash(abhi's brother)'s kid . but he was not accepting it.so Suresh and rachna had to face insult from abhi's family.on akash's wedding day pragya made akash confess infront of everyone that he is rachna's baby's dad!pragya blames abhi infront of media for insulting them.Suresh was touched with pragya's support to his family, so he told her that he want to marry her.Pragya's maami once heard Suresh and his friend's convo and she came to know that Suresh loves bulbul,so she told bulbul about this.bulbul slaps Suresh for cheating her sis, but he says pragya know about it.Suresh says he can't forget her but he will try to love pragya,pragya listens to this and once again she breaks down.pragya breaks her wedding with Suresh, and her mother is shattered seeing all this.
Aliya made her entry in d scene, Aliya is
Abhi's sister and Purab's childhood friend.Aliya loves Purab. Although the two mutually agreed upon this relationship a year back, Purab never loved Aliya. He accepted the relationship only because of Abhi's friendship. Once she sees pragya with purab and misunderstands her as purab's girl friend, she decided to get purab back anyhow .Aliya told abhi about purab-pragya and abhi beats purab for cheating his sister.
Dadi becomes unwell and she wanted abhi to marry before something happens to her.Abhi asks tannu to marry him but she refuses saying she can't marry him till next year for her modelling career. Aliya requests abhi to marry pragya and says once she got her purab he can throw pragya from his life.tannu too supports Alita.Aliya convinces Abhi to marry Pragya. Abhi's Dadi believes Pragya is a good match for Abhi and wants them to get married as well. Sarla was in bad condition since pragya broke her wedding with suresh, so for her mother's sake pragya agree to marry abhi .on their wedding night pragya is shocked seeing abhi and tannu together,and abhi told her tannu is his gf and he married her just for his sister's sake. she wants to leave abhi's home after knowing the truth, but again for her mother's happiness she decided to stay with Abhi. Abhi, Aaliya, and Tannu tortured Pragya by purposefully being rude, placing blame on her, and many other things. Pragya is unwilling to reveal that it is Bulbul that Purab loves and convinces Bulbul to keep quiet as well. Bulbul comes to know about pragya-abhi's relation truth and convinces Purab to marry Aliya to solve problem between Abhi and Pragya. Purab at first refuses but later agrees.
Abhi and pragya are behaving like tom and jerry,each day they are having cute nokhjoks.once pragya saves abhi from drinking & driving case,he was touched with her support.Abhi starts feeling something for pragya but he was confused with that feelings.and tannu is feeling jealous seeing them close and together always.
Purab and bulbul are missing eachother and they hides their pain from others.On Aliya-purab wedding day purab comes to know about Aliya and abhi's planning that is to throw pragya from abhi's life once they got married.so purab runs away from his wedding...
