Felt like writing something.
So here it is.
****
The first time.
He did not even realise that he uttered them.
He regretted it later of course.
But it was too late by then. What was he supposed to say even then?
"Aliya? I am sorry, but I dont want to divorce you. I am really sorry that you got hurt" and everything would be fine!
If only he could.
He had cupped her face and said in a loud clear voice-
"Mein Zain Usman Abdullah, Allah ko hazir nazir maan kar, Aliya Zain Abdullah ko talaq deta hun."
"Talaq, talaq, talaq."
He does not even remember her face then.
It was like he was talking to a void.
The first time?
The first time, it was because he was consumed with grief
A month had passed and he had missed her terribly.
Adat ho gayi thi mamu ki bete ko mamu ki bhanji ka.
His room was a mess, unorganised.
Like his life without her.
Reminiscing his moments bacame his favourite pass time and crying was his hobby.
But never outside their bhaad.
Out, he was the heir of Usman Abdullah, one of the major stakeholders of Barkat Royale.
One of the emerging businessman- along with her.
But he said those words a second time round too.
"Talaq, talaq, talaq" he had said, his voice echoing in the boardroom.
He hated himself. Loathed his self for being so cruel. And for humiliating her as such.
But he did not show it.
She was responsible for his superhero's death.
The second time?
The second time, it was out of decit.
Another month had passed by and this time, it was more miserable.
Because he came to know the truth.
Of her innocence.
He should have believed her after all.
She had pleaded, begged, laid down her self respect for him.
He pitied himself for being so weak.
His dad had said to someone- "Zain Abdullah kabhi apni baat se nai mukrega."
He still remembered his father's tilt of his head, as if the person he was talking about was his life. And the pride ringing in his voice.
He felt ashamed of himself.
These three months he had lost so much-
His dad, his pride, his love.
His being of existence.
Aliya Ghulam Haider did not deserve Zain Usman Abdullah.
She deserved more.
The third time?
"Talaq, talaq, talaq" he had whispered, his eyes full of tears, heart full of love.
The third time round, he said it out of pure unadultrated love for her.
