CHAPTER 11 :THE TRUTH STINGS
The hardest thing one can give to a person is the 'truth'.The 'truth' is hard and more often than not it is awkward and it hurts.People say they want the truth, but do they really?...
His actions stopped mid-air ,the spoon fell from his fingers an clattered on the plate,as his mind tried to wrap itself around what his mother had asked him to do'Zain i was thinking that-why don't you take Zara,Aaliya and Rehaan out with you and show them around the city..I'm sure that they would love the idea!Anyway we'll all have to go out for shopping for your engagement and they won't get time to explore the new place once the preparations begin in full swing."
'Moreover you'll get to know Zara better..'Osman Abdullah added suggestively, with a light chuckle.
His eyes skittered over her impassive face. She faught not to meet his gaze, for she cold feel his eyes scorching her to ashes."Zain...?"Zara's chirpy, ebbulient voice drew his attention away from Aaliya.
"You're happy with this-right?"He nodded his head, while his face held an inscrutable expression.

They had watched each other ,silently, from the corner of each other's eyes, noticing every small detail that was visible to them, but invisible to the rest of the wrld.Zain had taken them around Mumbai, leaving out on not asingle place -from the resturant where they had dined for the first time, to the roadside-gol-gappa stall and the one that served freshly ground sugarcane juice.they went around the favourite tourists spot, where they had tirelessly spent hours absorbing the newness of the place. He had made her revisit those places not with the motive of digging up old ,dusty memories which she shared with him,the very ones which probably had no value in her life, but he did it to help her make new memories to wipe out the old ones and treasure the new ones which she would share with Rehaan-her present and her future. She had probably missed those things ,the small joys of living amidst the buzz and earthiness of Mumbai, which a beautiful melange of culture and flavours. He hoped that she did, even if it was just a bit.Because, then he would atleast be happy knowing that she'd be taking something back from Mumbai, she'd be relieving the moments that they had spent together, only the guy would be different. There was an absence of plenitude in their soul,as they swam through the sea of unknown faces, with their eyes searching for each other, sometimes meeting haalfway through the crowd, their hearts afraid to acknowledge the emotions etched in them.
Zain smiled .He really smiled after a long,it was as if he had forgotten how to do it even!He watched her slurp the juices off the 'gola'(conical shaped ,made of ice and dipped in diff.flavoured syrups),while an annoyed Rehaan, complained about the unhygeinic conditions, while Zara busied herself on her i-phone.SHe lifted her eyes and smiled at him.it was small and faint, but still something. She knew he had understood, what she had meant to say...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sky furrowed with crispy white bands of cloud, softly glowing colours from the palest amber-pink to the deepest flaming red.An orange haze casted over the moving sea, reflecting off every wave.Half of a glowing, radiant light loomed over the water's horizon.A warm sensation was splashed onto her face ,from the beaming rays of the sun.A calmness flew by with the wind, making her heart stop for a single moment ,as her eyes met with his chagrined and crestfallen ones, which were lost somewhere -deep in thought. The beach -Mumbai's beautiful coastline was the last spot on their itenerary. The beach had always been 'their' place, their secret haven, the intermittent wavelets and hollow white sound of splashing of water against their bare feet had offered them solace. It was the place where they had found each other, after getting lost somewhere down the way...
they were standing just a few feet away, yet the distance between them seemed too big for them to travel-it was not a narrow creek, but a monstrous valley- a void,an emptiness. It was not like old times, nothing was and nothing would be ever the same. She was watching with Rehaan by her side,as the water gleamed in the last rays of the dying sun, while he stood with Zara by his side. Her lungs constricted, the salty moist air was not enough for her,as she fought back her tears---why was it happening all over again?Hadn't she moved on already? Moved on with her life, leaving behind every inkling of her previous life!
The waves crashed over the frigid sand, spreading its lacy foam like the edge of a petticoat. The wind blew in bitter gusts, tumbling her tousled locks behind her.the salty air lay thickly on her tongue, and filled her nostrils. With her bare feet ,chalky white and goosebumped because of the nippy winds, she stepped in front ,allowing the waves to kiss her feet...
He looked at her stolid face furtively.behind the facade of calmness ,there was a storm waging inside her head, the tug of war between her heart and her mind.he knew it,because he was going through the same
They looked back at each other and then back at the sea.The sea was as still as a millpond, like a slumbering giant, powers trapped, muscles unflexed, dozing ,dreamily, caressing the pristine beach like a mother to her baby, until the wind whipped it up into tempestuous waves, soaring ,smashing into the beach with an unleashed fury...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The car ride back home was an unsually quiet one, except for a few perfunctory notes exchanged between the passenger of his back Mercedes.Their car strolled down brightly lit street of Mumbai, pulsating with the mild effervescence of sweet love, hard toil and life in all its glory. He watched in the rearview mirror as the streetlights lazily glided across her face, and her eyes met with his 'again; in the smae manner.
the silence was becoming abominable, there was something sinister and disturbing about it.He crancked up the volume of the radio, their heart clenced in anguish as the song reached theri ears..and filled the empty space...
Jab Jab tere pass mei aaya,ek sukoon mila
Jise bhooltha aaya,wo wajood mila.Jab aaye mausam gham ke tujhe yaad kiya
Jab sehme tanhapan ke tujhe yaad kiya
Dil samhal ja zaraa Phir mohabbat karne chala hai tu..
Dil yahin ruk ja zaraa Phir mohabbat karne chala hai tu...
Al the events from the day kept on flashing in front of his eyes, forming a collage of images-some from the past even.A burning sensation filled her chest, she clutched her flimsy dupatta, lowered her gaze and found a false sense of security in it.The simple act of breathing was turning into an agonising struggle for him,as his eyes fell on her face etched with pain,in its superlative form...
Aisa kyun kar hua jaan u na mai jaanu na
Jis raah ha pe hai ghar tera
Aksar wahaan se haan mai hu guzra
Zain was reminded of all the times he had waited for her one call in the past 5 years, the call which never really came...waited for a closure, which he never really found and a false sense of calmness to give him some sort of security...
Shayad yahidil mei raha
Tu mujh ko mil jaaye kya pataa
Kya hai yeh maamla, jaana na ..jaanu na....
Dil samhal ja zaraa Phir mohabbat karne chala hai tu..
Dil yahin ruk ja zaraa Phir mohabbat karne chala hai tu...
He had broken her completely ,yet her broken heart, which she had managed to put together with glue and tape, counted every beat in his name.SHe had hoped for a closure, she atleast deserved that much, she had so many questions to be answered-but now that the closure was finally there,in the form of 'Zara',her heart found it hard to accept the verity of her broken reality.
Kuch bhi nahi.Jab darmayaanphir kyun hai dil tere hi kwaab bunta..
Chaha ki de,tujh ko bhula...Par yeh bhi mumkin na ho sakaa...
Kya hai yeh jaanu na...janu na..mai janu na...
Dil samhal ja zaraa Phir mohabbat karne chala hai tu..
Dil yahin ruk ja zaraa Phir mohabbat karne chala hai tu...
Their memories were ingrained in each and every cell of their body, their hurt, pain and sadness lurking in each and every corner of their mind, she wished she could forget him, just the way she had forgiven him for all the perfidy and hurt that he had given her.He wished he could forget her,and move only, only if it was so easy. They looked at each other one last time in the mirror,a one tear escaped her eyes, she wiped it away as if it never existed.Aaliya averted her gaze away from him, fearing that ifshe looked at him any longer,he'd be able to see how broken and damaged her soul was...
