PART 11. PRELUDE TO REALIZATIONS!
Two years passed away while Maan and Geet continued to fight. Some people saw their fight as entertainment and often had popcorn and juice handy for such occasions like Dev and NT and some people just rolled their eyes and walked away like our dear Daadima. In these two years, Geet had completed her studies and as of today, was getting ready for the send off party of her college.
Geet was very happy today. And why wouldn't she be? Her College was throwing a send off party for the Seniors and as she was a senior too, she was very excited to go. Geet sifted through the dresses in her wardrobe. She had confused on what to wear. She looked and looked but after a while she gave up. Hey Babaji! Main kya pehnu? Yahaan toh kuch achcha nahi dikh raha! She huffed and pouted in annoyance. That is when Babaji decided to help her out. He sent Daadima!
"Geet beta?", Geet heard Daadima call and she looked at the door where Daadima was standing. Daadima smiled as she walked in with a package in her hand, "Geet beta! Kya aapne aaj shaam ke party ke liye koi dress choose kiya hai?"
Geet shook her head and looked at Daadima sadly.
Daadima smiled at her, "Achcha hua! Kyunki hum aapke liye ek perfect Saree laayein hain!"
Geet's eyes widened, "Saree?", she squealed.
Daadima smiled and handed her the package. Geet pulled out the Saree and grinned happily. It was in a beautiful sky blue color with some very simple silver work on it but Daadima was sure that the simplicity of the Saree would only enhance Geet's beauty.
As Daadima walked away Geet happily hugged the Saree. Hey Babaji! Aaj toh aapne mera din bana diya!
Dev and NT watched the scene in front of them as if they were watching a tennis match. Their necks swirled from one end to other end as they took in the scene. And what was the scene? What had got Dev and NT looking from one end to other end of the room? What else but the human species with the name of Maan Singh Khurana.
Maan was pacing from the one end of the hall to the other end while NT and Dev watched him pace amusedly. And why was Maan pacing? Because Daadima had made him Geet's personal driver for the night. He was supposed to drop Geet to the party and then come back home and when Geet called him he was supposed to go back just to pick her up.
"Driver samajh rakha hai kya?", Dev and NT heard Maan grumble and looking at each other grinning. After every few seconds, Maan would grumble some words about the situation which would make Dev and NT grin at each other while try to not laugh and bring attention to them. Both were seated at a nearby sofa watching Maan pace.
Maan rolled his eyes as NT and Dev shared another smile. They thought he did not notice, but he noticed. Oh! He noticed everything including their smiles and expression. He knew why they were smiling. They were smiling at his grumbling. Let them smile! They did not know that he was just acting. Maan smiled to himself. All this grumbling and pacing was just his acting. He was actually very happy when Daadima asked him to be Geet's driver. Sirf ek din ke liye? Maan's heart had grumbled. Poore life ke liye kyun nahi? But Maan reacted with anger and refusal knowing very well that Daadima will not let go and will force him to pick and drop Geet. After arguing for a while, finally it had happened. Daadima ordered him into dropping and picking Geet and Maan bowed his head down in reluctant acceptance while his heart excited thumped in his chest. Geet ke saath long drive! Thank you Babaji!
Maan continued to pace and act as if taking Geet to her College was an insult to his status when suddenly he stopped and stared. Dev and NT stopped staring at Maan and frowned. They turned to look at what had shocked Maan only to see a beautiful Geet coming down the stairs. As Dev and NT smiled at Geet wondering how grown up the sweet sister/ saali was looking, Maan stared at Geet with his jaw hanging open. He felt his heart stop and suddenly he was sent back two years back when he first time saw Geet getting down the stairs the same way and looking like an angel at that time too. Only this time, instead of passing by him, she came to stop right in front of him and gave him a bright smile. Maan's heart slowed down, skipped few beats and then picked up and started racing wildly. Luckily for him, NT and Dev decided that this was the right time to compliment Geet, so no one noticed Maan's stupefied expression.
"Maan bete?", Daadima's words brought Maan from his Geet land and he looked over at Daadima who was staring at him with confused expression. Yeh Maan bete ko kya ho gaya hai? When Maan gave her a stern look Daadima smiled. Haan! Ab sab theek hai! She ordered Maan to take Geet and drop her to the College Party. Maan gave Geet a glare and stormed away. Geet huffed. Hey Babaji! Aaj ke din toh uss sweet Maan ko bhej diya hota!
Geet huffed as she looked at Maan sitting beside her, driving the car. Hey Babaji! Inhonein kuch bola kyun nahi? Sab meri taarif kar rahe the, keh rahe the ki main achchi lag rahi hoon! Daadima, Jiju, NT Di, sab meri taarif kare thak nahi rahe the, lekin inhonein; inhonein abhi tak kuch bhi nahi kahaa! Arre! Hum jhagadte hain toh kya hua? In do saalon mein mujhe laga tha hum dono atleast dost toh ban hi gaye honge! Lekin inhein dekho? She looked over at Maan who resolutely stared at the road in front of him. Geet sniffed. Ek shabd bhi nahi phoot raha inke mooh se! Maan! Kuch toh bolo! Kya main achchi nahi lag rahi? Kuch toh bolo Maan! But Maan continued to remain silent and Geet continued to pout in sadness.
Soon the car reached her College party Venue and Geet got down.
"Geet!", Maan called out from the car while still looking ahead and Geet who was walking towards the Party Hall turned around eagerly. Shaayad ab meri Saree ki taarif karenge! She subconsciously adjusted her Saree pallu in anticipation.
Maan looked at her, "Jab tumhein nikalna ho, toh mujhe call kar dena! Main tumhein pick up karne aa jaaunga!"
Geet's eager face fell down and she nodded while pouting. She turned and started to walk away.
"Aur suno!", Maan called and Geet again turned eagerly. Shaayad ab bolenge!
"Agar maine phone nahi uthaaya toh Dev ko call karna! Main nahi toh woh tumhein pick up karne aa jaayega!"
Geet narrowed her eyes in anoyance. Bas yahi bolna tha! Uff!
She turned to walk away again when Maan spoke up again, "Achcha suno!"
Geet hated herself for the excitement she felt in her heart. She turned again with hope only for Maan to say, "Aur mobile kahin bhool mat jaana! Apne paas hi rakhna! Pata chala koi gadbad hogaya aur tum hum logon ko call bhi nahi kar paayi kyunki tum mobile kahin bhool gayi thi!"
Geet was beyond annoyance now. She was bubbling in anger. She stamped her foot, turned around and walked a few steps when...
"Geet!", Maan spoke again making Geet huff in anger as she turned around. She stomped towards him, placed her hands on her hips and rudely shouted, "Kya hai?"
Maan started the car and gave her a smirk. He spoke in a soft loving voice, "Tum bahut achchi lag rahi ho! Bahut khoobsurat!" Saying this, he changed the gear and drove away leaving behind a stupefied Geet.
Geet stared at the car with her jaw hanging open. Did he just compliment me?
As Maan drove off, he saw Geet's expression in the sideways mirror and let out a loud laugh. He loved to annoy her. Ab ghar aao aur lado mujhse, Miss Geet Handa!
