My grandmother used to say we can count sands of sea shore not Arjuna's wife.
But it is a vauge statement.

As per popular culture he had 4 wives.

Drupadi was his principal wife and he had a son Sruthkrithi .

Then During his exile from indraprastha he had traveled many places.

Arjuna started his pilgrimage by visiting the origin or river ganga. There he meets Naga Princess Uloopi. She was deeply infatuated by him. Some say she bewitched him.
Before departing, Ulupi granted him the boon of invincibility in water bodies. Iravan was Arjuna's son with Ulupi.
However, Arjuna was reluctant to marry Uloopi, as because of all the magic Uloopi had used to keep him in the netherworld , Arjuna would remember none of what had happened. After he learns of her pregnancy, he consents to the marriage..

He then Meets Chitrangada princess of Manipur. He fell in love with her and requested the king for his daughter's hand in marriage. Upon discovering Arjuna's true identity, the king readily agreed. Since Chitrangadaa was his oldest child and Manipur practiced equal in men and woman , which Hastinapur did not practice, the king sought a promise from Arjuna that Chitrangadaa and any of her and Arjuna's children would remain in Manipur as Chitravahana's heirs. Arjuna agreed, and later spent time in the palace until the birth of his son, Babruvahana.

Then during last years of his exile he reaches Dwaraka. there he meets Subadra sister of Krishna . He fell in love with her. with Lord krishna 's approval they eloped and got married.
Abhimanyu was Subadra and Arjun's son.

He had four wives and I knew about them.

The story of Arjun and Subhadra's wedding is interesting.

Dhuryodhan wanted to marry Subhadra and asked Balram for her hand in marriage. Balram promised he will ask his sister, but before he asked her Arjun kidnapped her. Balram began to fume and intended on destroying Arjun for kidnapping his sister. However Krishna stopped him and told him Arjun was Subhadra's choice and not Dhuyodhan.

^^^ Actually, Mahabharata has nothing about Duryodhan or Balarama's desires. It's there in Shrimad Bhagvatam.

In SB too, Duryodhan didn't make any request, nor did he know about it. It was Balarama who wanted to give Subhadra to him, since he was his favorite. Krishna didn't like the idea, and so he gave Arjun the idea of abducting & marrying her.

It was important, b'cos had Subhadra married Duryodhan, Krishna would have been forced to side completely w/ the Kauravas. As it is, he had to split his contributions, thanks to Samba forcibly marrying Lakshmanaa.

But one thing - Arjun had just 4 wives, which certainly didn't make him someone who's greatest achievement, aside from warfare, was marriage, as some critiques sometimes observe. It was common for princes to have 10 or even more wives - however many they thought they could handle. Leaving aside Krishna, Vasudev had 8 wives. Arjun's number - 4 - was barely 1 more than Bhima (3), 2 more than YNS (2). Of these 4, Chitrangada's son was like Bahlika - inherited his maternal kingdom, and took no part in the war, so was useless to him.

U r right abt Balarama wanting to get her married to Duryodhana n Krishna wanted Arjuna to marry her... But even if Subhadra had got married to Duryodhana, Krishna would not have fought for the Kauravas ... There would have been some other incident which would have led to Krishna going to Pandavas side... As it is He gave His armies to the Kauravas n had promised that He Himself would not fight but only be the charioteer for Arjuna... So what had to happen would have happened regardless of Subhadra s wedding to Arjuna.. It just made it simpler...

N Arjuna's no of wives is just 4- like u said nothing when compared to other kings n princes of that time.. 😊.. See how many wives r dear Krishna has😉

Don't know the details of his marriage to Chitrangada...

It was during his 12 year vanvas that Arjuna met Chitrangada - the princess of Manipur. He fell in love with her and asked her father for her hand in marriage. Chitrangada's father replied that she was his only daughter- and as per Brahma's boon/ curse, only one child will be born to her as well. CHitrangada's father put forth the condition that as and when Arjuna- Chitrangada's son was born, that child would be handed over to his maternal grandparents and Arjuna would stake no claim on that son.

Arjuna agreed and he was married to Chitrangada. A son was born to them who was named Babruvahana.

Arjuna then set out on his wanderings visiting the southern regions. After three years, he returned to Manipur and formally handed over his son to Chitrangada's father and the child was adopted into his maternal family.
