DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER"
PART 1:
HEATHROW AIRPORT, LONDON:
An air India flight had just landed from Mumbai. Two young men arrived on this plane for a 14 day vacation in London.
They are waiting to clear customs and immigration
"Yaar, Sid'..yahan London mein suna hai Punjabi khana bahut achcha milta hai'."
"Armaan! Tu India sey itni door sirf khana khane aaya hai'..aisa hi tha tho wahin reh jaata'."
"Sid, kya baat karta hai'..khali pait ghumna-firna kaise karr saktey hain?'.food first then tourism!"
"Armaan, let me re phrase that for you'.food first'.. then girls'.then pubs'.then may be in sab cheezon se time mila tho London darshan ho jaayengey'."
"EXZACTLY!" Armaan said and they both started laughing
Armaan Mallik and Sid Malhotra were childhhood friends. They had both lived together with each other since 11 years of age. Armaan was an orphan, when Billy Malhotra, Sid's dad adopted him. Since then, the two boys had done everything together. They both just graduated from IIM-Ahmedabad with a MBA degree. Billy Malhotra had gifted them a trip to London as their graduation gift. Billy's wife was deceased, so his world revolved around the two boys. Billy was a retired high court judge and spent most of his time gardening or reading his books. Recently, he had been offered a contract to write a book for law students. He readily agreed, and that is why could not accompany the boys to London.
Armaan was the more outspoken and bratty of the two. He was street smart and a complete charmer. It was rare to see him without a girl in his arms, whether it was school, college or now the real world.
Sid was the shy one; he let Armaan do most of the talking and interaction with other people. Sid loved to write poetry and was a good singer too. Sid had never dated any girls yet. Armaan made fun of him, "Sid, looks like you will die a virgin!'.learn to have fun man!" Sid ignored most of Armaan's outrageous comments as he knew Armaan was good at heart and if need be, would sacrifice his life for Sid.
Armaan was indebted to the Malhotra's for adopting and giving him the opportunity to get a good education. He still remembered how Billy Malhotra had rescued him from the Juvenile court and taken him to his house. The only memory of his own family was that his dad was always drunk and abused his mom. Armaan had run away from home at the age of 8 years and gotten involved in criminal activities like stealing, pick pocketing, and cheating people. A few months later, after he ran away, he heard that his father had died of liquor poisoning and mother had committed suicide soon afterwards. Armaan's battle with the law continued after his parent's death till one day, he was rescued by the kind hearted Billy Malhotra. Armaan was initially introduced into the Malhotra family to help out as part-time domestic help and attend school simultaneously.
Sid and Armaan had a tough time bonding. They were poles apart in their personalities and outlook towards life, but that is what probably brought them close to each other. The turning point in their relationship was the death of Sid's mother, when he was only 12. Sid had a major breakdown after her death; he even became violent and abusive towards others. No one had ever seen Sid like that before-he was the perfect, obedient son that every one was envious of.
Armaan, who had experienced worse things in life, helped Sid deal with that crisis. Billy realized that Armaan was a strong person from inside and would be a good influence on Sid in the long run. Since then, he treated both the boys equally and helped pay for all their education in the best of schools. Billy Malhotra adopted Armaan legally, as his son. Armaan refused to change his last name, though.
"Chachaji, main jab tak Mallik surname se juda rahoonga, I will always remember where I came from and I never won't to forget what I was!" He even called Billy "chachaji," as his memories of his dad were all negative, and he would rather address Billy without remembering his alcoholic and abusive father.
Armaan had a sharp brain and it did not take him time to catch up to Sid's level. They both went into engineering and then completed their MBA from one of the most prestigious business schools in India.
After clearing immigration, they were waiting for their bags to arrive at the baggage claim. Armaan was getting restless; he hated waiting in lines, "main zara ghoom karr aata hoon'zara yahan ka real estate check karr ke aata hoon'.."
Sid smiled, "matlab ladkiyan check karne ja raha hai?"
"I would like to get a headstart'.you know I don't like to waste time in these matters"
Armaan roamed around for a while and then came back. He found Sid staring at a girl across the baggage claim carousel. She was struggling to free her bag from one of the edges of the carousel.
Armaan snapped his fingers, "Hello'hello'kahan kho gaye?"
"Wo'kuch nahin'"
"OH'.lagta hai uska bag phans gaya hai'..kahan ki hogi yeh ladki?"
"Mujhey kya pata?'.Indian lagti hai'.yahin rehti hogi London mein"
"Naa'I think London ghoomney aayai hai" Armaan said as he checked her out from top to bottom.
"Kapdon se tho yahin ki lagti hai'.you know'.look at the way she is dressed" Sid retorted
"Yaar, kapdey tho aaj kal India ki ladkiyan bhi sabsey modern pehnthi hai'gaye wo salwar kameez ke din'chal aisa kartey hein poonch karr aatey hain'..."
"Nahin'yaar'rehney de" Sid said shyly
"C'mon man'.OK 100 rupees'.or rather 10 pounds ki shart" Armaan said and walked towards the girl, who was still struggling to free her bag.
"Let me help you'." Armaan intervened and pulled out her bag from the carousal
'Thanks'." The girl said
"Mention not'.parr yeh bataayie'.aap kahan ki hain?"
"What? Aap se matlab?" she sounded a little annoyed at the stranger's over friendliness
"Wo'mera dost'.wo jo wahan khada hai'" Armaan pointed towards Sid, who was trying his best, to hide his face from embarrassment, "uski aur meri 10 pounds ki shart lagi hai'wo kehta hai aap London mein rehne wali hain aur main kehta hoon aap India mein hi rehti hain aur yahan ghoomney aayi hain'.that's the only reason I ask"
The girl could not help smiling at this stranger's frankness, "well, main Mumbai mein rehti hoon, yahan ghoomney aayi hoon'..mere dad bhi aaye hain mere saath'wo cart lene gaye hain'.thanks'nice to meet you'.."
"Ek minute'.ek minute, mere dost se bhi mil lee jiye'.I would like him to know that I have won the bet.."
Armaan gestured Sid to join them. Sid was reassured when he saw that the girl was still standing there and was not ready to kill them.
"Yeh'.Sid Malhotra hai'mera sab sey achcha dost'.actually mera bhai hai'ladkiyon se bahut darta hai'." Armaan introduced Sid.
'Hello'..aap Armaan ki baton mein mat aayie'.yeh tho aise hi bak-bak karta hai'."
"Main bak-bak karta hoon?'.OK insey poonch lee jiye ki shart kaun jeeta hai?" Armaan pointed towards the girl, who could not help smiling at the interaction between the 2 friends.
"Sidji, aapkey dost shart jeet gaye hain'."
Sid looked at Armaan, "wo tho jeet ni hi thi'."
"Kyon?" Armaan asked innocently
"Kyonki'.ladkiyon ke maamley mein tu zyada experienced hai'." Sid replied shyly
"Waise'.aap ko kaise pata chala?" the girl asked curiously
"Seedhi si baat hai'..London ki ladkiyan zyada workout wagarah karti hain tho unkey muscles zyada strong hotey hain'.hamari Hindustani ladkiyan zara naazuk hoti hain'.tabhi aap bag nahin utha saki'"
The girl's facial expression changed from a friendly smile to a cold stare, "Bye'Mr Armaan and Sid'..NICE TO MEET YOU BOTH 'good luck with your 10 pounds!!'." She stomped off.
"Arre'.miss'apna naam tho bata te jaaiye'" Armaan called from behind
"Armaan'tu bhi'.kya soch raho hogi wo?" Sid pulled Armaan back
"why are you so worried about her, Sid? Sochney de jo sochna hai'..let's go '.hamare bags aa rahey hain'."
PART 2:
Armaan and Sid checked into their hotel soon after leaving the airport. It was a nice sunny day in London and they both wanted to take advantage of the weather and go sightseeing.
Sid looked over at all the brochures, "Armaan'.yeh bataa'.pehley kahan chaley?"
Armaan was busy flipping channels on the TV, "jahan tu le jaayega wahan chaloonga''bas pait ko khane ke liye kuch mil jaaye aur aankhon ko sunder kudiyan mil jaayen'.."
"Yaar kabhi tho serious ho jaaya kar''bataa Eye of London aaj chalein ya phir river cruise kar lein, ya pehle museums chalein'ya palaces'.??"
"Sid, why can't you make some decisions'.sab kuch mujh sey hi poonchta hai'" Armaan was annoyed as he was busy checking out the playboy channel, "yaar'apney cable waale sey kuch aise channel bhi lene chahiye'."
Sid got up and turned the TV off,"yeh le apna jacket'let's go now!" he said firmly
"OK'OK'.ab liya na kuch decision tuney'..pata nahin shaadi kaise karega'.biwi bhi mujhey hi select karni padhegi tere liye'."
Armaan and Sid decided to start their tour of London with a cruise on River Thames. That way they would have an overview of the city.
They boarded the ferry and settled down on the rear side of the boat, with their camera and binoculars.
"Photos tho tu hi le, Sid'..I will check out the horizons with my binoculars'.." Armaan handed the bulky camera to Sid. Armaan did not have the patience to mess around with the camera- Sid was more organized and more artistic-he was usually the cameraman when they went on vacations.
As Armaan surveyed the "horizons," Sid asked him, "Armaan'tu bahar ki scenery kyon nahin dekh raha'..yeh ferry ke logon parr hi kyon focus karr raha hai?"
"Sid'..you won't believe, what I just saw'.." Armaan said excitedly
"Kya'.Buckingham palace dikh raha hai yahan se?"
"Nahin'..wo baggage claim wali ladki'..she is on the same ferry'.dekh bilkul aagey khadi hai'saath mein ek budha bhi hai'."
"ARMAAN!'leave her alone'."
"Why are you so protective about her? Main ussey khaa thode hi jaaoonga'chal let's go and say HI"
"ARMAAN! Tu bhi'." Sid followed him like a lamb.
"Hello, Uncle! My name is Armaan Mallik. I am from Mumbai" Armaan purposely ignored the "baggage claim" girl and talked to the elderly gentleman with her. Sid had his eyes buried in the ground but stole glances at the girl every so often.
"Hello'..how are you?" the elderly gentleman shook hands with Armaan
"I am fine sir, in sey miliye'.yeh mera bhai Sid Malhotra hai'." Sid extended his hand to shake hands.
"Bhai? Yeh Malhotra aur tum Mallik?" the elderly gentleman was puzzled
"Oh'uncle'.hamara rishta hi kuch aisa hai'.kabhi fursat mein samjhaaunga'" Armaan said as he put his arm around Sid.
"Well, nice to meet you young men'.mera naam Shashank Gupta hai, retired high court judge from Jaipur, parr ab Mumbai mein hi rehta hoon'.and this is my daughter'." Shashank pointed towards the girl standing next to him.
"OH'.we know her'Miss Baggage claim!" Armaan laughed and winked at the girl
Shashank started laughing too, "what a coincidence'.it means we all came by the same flight too'.she is my only daughter and my only reason to live, RIDDHIMA!" he hugged his daughter.
"Hello'.Riddhima" Armaan said enthusiastically. Riddhima answered curtly, "Hi'..thanks for helping me with the bags again" she lowered her eyes as she could feel Armaan's eyes staring her down. She wanted to clarify to her dad, that she knew them as acquaintances only, as they had helped her with her bags.
Sid stood there quietly admiring Riddhima's beauty. She was dressed in a skirt and a sleeveless top with a scarf on her neck. Her shoes and purse were well coordinated with her outfit. Riddhima turned around and started looking outside at the river and the city of London.
Sid finally spoke, "Uncle aap ney kaha high court judge? Mere papa bhi retired judge hain'parr wo Mumbai mein hi posted the"
"Kya naam bataaya unka?" Shashank was curious
"Billy Malhotra, uncle" Sid said
"OH'.Billy'.hum dono ek hi college mein the'in fact I was junior to him'.we have even met at some law conferences in recent years'.what a small world?" Shashank was pleased to meet the young men and shook their hands again.
Riddhima, with her shades on, was busy admiring the city of London, she had no interest in the two men, especially the over-talkative, over-friendly man. Somehow she felt a little uncomfortable when his piercing gaze fell on her. The other man seemed nice and polite, perhaps she could become friends with him, if needed she thought.
"Papa'.wo dekhiye London Eye'..why don't we go there next"
"What a coincidence! Hum log bhi wahin jaa rahey the'"Armaan butted in
Sid gave him a stare and whispered in his ears, "Armaan'.we are?"
"Now we are'." Armaan whispered back.
Shashank was delighted. These two men were well educated, appeared single and were from a good family'..what else could he ask for?'..may be one of them would be a suitable boy for his princess?
Riddhima was not too thrilled when she heard that they were all going to the same destination.
As they waited in line for tickets, Armaan kept them all entertained with his jokes and outrageous comments. Riddhima noticed that his gaze wandered around whenever he saw young good-looking woman pass by. Riddhima kept her distance from him, as she was not sure about his intentions. She preferred to talk to Sid, who just answered in monosyllables with his eyes to the ground.
Riddhima tried to engage Sid in a conversation, "aap kaam kartey hain kahin, ya abhi college mein hain?"
Before Sid could answer, Armaan replied, "hum dono abhi IIM sey graduate kiye hain'.ab wapas jaakar job-wob dhoondengey'.aap kya karti hain?"
Riddhima rolled her eyes and said, "Maine fashion designing ka course abhi poora kiya hai'..main apni boutique kholney ki soch rahi hoon'."
Shashank intervened, "Riddhima ke designs tho college mein hi bahut popular ho gaye the'.she had many offers from designers to join them, but she prefers to start something on her own. She also sings on the radio sometimes'." He was beaming as he proudly talked about her achievements.
"Papa'.please!!" Riddhima looked embarrassed.
Armaan decided to leave Riddhima alone with Sid, as he could sense her irritation. He started whistling and checked out a woman in the neighboring aisle. Riddhima could not help notice where Armaan's eyes were wandering. She thought, "what a cheapster?'.kisi ladki ko nahin chhodta'.parr main kyon bother ho rahi hoon?'.he has not said or done anything to me'.why does he have that affect on me?"
They finally boarded one of the capsules of the London Eye. As they were entering the capsule, Armaan accidentally placed his hand over Riddhima's, which was resting on one of the railings. As soon as his hand touched hers, she felt like she had been struck by lightening'.she looked up at him'..he was staring at her but soon realized what had happened'.he took his hand away and said, "I am sorry'..did not see where I was going'" he smiled and looked outside the window.
Riddhima moved away and stood next to her dad for rest of the journey on the famous wheel. Armaan had his binoculars on during most of the trip, Sid was busy clicking pictures, Shashank enjoyed the London skyline, Riddhima tried to focus on the scenery but felt distracted, and kept stealing glances with the handsome tall man with the binoculars'.
PART 3:
After their tour in the Millennium wheel (London Eye) was over, they all decided to get something to eat.
"Paas hi mein ek Punjabi restaurant hai'.any one interested?" Armaan asked, hoping everyone would just follow.
"Haan'jahan tum kaho'." Shashank followed
"Parr'.papa'.wahan vegetarian choices shayad zyaada na ho'" Riddhima whined
"kahin aur chaltey hain'.jahan bhi Riddhima chahey'" Sid spoke up finally
"Guys'.don't worry'yadi Riddhima vegetarian hai tho main usska intezaam karwa doonga.." Armaan said
"Yeh Mumbai nahin hai Armaan jo sab tumhari baat maan jaayengey'" Sid was worried
'Yaar Sid'tussi tension mat liya karo'..main hoon na!" Armaan led the way to the restaurant. Riddhima frowned, "yeh apni baat manwa kerr hi rehta hai'.at least Sid was considerate enough"
They settled down in a corner in the cozy restaurant. The aroma of the delicious spices act as an appetizer for all of them. Armaan went inside the kitchen, like he owned the restaurant, to the amazement of Riddhima and Shashank. He came a few minutes later, "kaam ho gaya'."
Sid smiled, "Armaan'.tu bhi har jagah apna kaam banaa hi leta hai'"
The waiter came in to take their orders for drinks.
"A beer please" Shashank ordered
"Me too'.Beer'" Sid repeated
"Water'." Both Armaan and Riddhima said simultaneously.
"Tum beer nahi peetey'.tumharey tandoori chicken ke saath bahut jamegi?" Shashank was surprised.
"Nahin uncle'..main sharaab nahi peeta'.waise hi itni behki-behki baatein karta hoon'..peeloonga tho pata nahin kya-kya bak doonga'." Armaan, of course did not mention the real reason-his alcoholic dad had turned him away from alcohol for the rest of his life.
Riddhima looked up as Armaan spoke; she was surprised too'.Armaan just did not look like a teetotaler!
When the food was served, Riddhima was shocked to see the variety of vegetarian dishes the cook had whipped up for her.
"Main yeh sab kaise khaaungi?" she asked
"Don't worry'.the cook is doing a favor to us'..these are just samplers'.you can eat all you want'." Armaan answered
Shashank and Riddhima were surprised at how Armaan had managed to talk the cook into making so many special vegetarian dishes for them, without even charging!
Riddhima had never tasted such good food before, "Armaan'.maan na padhega'..aap ney kuch tho jaadu kiya hai cook parr'" she complimented him.
"Armaan ka jaadu tho saari duniya parr chaya huya hai'." Sid patted Armaan's back as they walked out of the restaurant.
Armaan and Sid dropped Shashank and Riddhima at their hotel in the evening
'Uncle'.we will see you in the morning'..let's all spend another day, sightseeing together'."Armaan waved them good bye
"Sounds like a plan son!" Shashank waved back
AT NIGHT:
Armaan hit the bed and was fast asleep within minutes
Sid tossed and turned as he remembered the day with Riddhima; he had never seen such a beautiful girl before'..he looked forward to seeing her again the next morning.
Riddhima tossed and turned as she tried to understand what Armaan was all about?'.was he really as loud and obnoxious as he appeared on the outside, or was he hiding some pain deep inside by behaving outrageously?''.why was she so conscious about herself when she was near Armaan''why did he make her aware of her being a woman and he a man, each time he looked at her'..why????
She thought about Sid-he seemed sweet, patient, understanding, sensitive'..and she felt comfortable with him'..she felt like she could be herself with him'..just like she would with any good friend'..how could two brothers be so different???
NEXT MORNING:
Riddhima woke up early and was ready to leave, but was surprised to see her dad still in bed. She went close to him, "Arre'papa'aap ko tho bukhaar hai'.." she took out her medicine kit and checked his temperature, "103!'Papa'aap kahin nahin jaayengey'."
"Beti'main rest karr loonga'Armaan aur Sid aaney waale honge'..tum unkey saath chali jaao'"
"Nahin papa'.main aap ko chhod karr nahin jaaoongi'." Riddhima argued.
There was a knock at the door. Riddhima opened the door to find Armaan and Sid staring at her. She was dressed in a long skirt with a halter neck top with matching high heels, purse and scarf'.she was aware both the men found her attractive, but she turned away and said, "sorry'papa bimaar hai'aap log jaaiye'.main yahin rahoongi'"
"No way'you can't be sitting inside on this beautiful day'" Armaan protested, "Main uncle ke saath bait tha hoon'waise bhi sightseeing is not my cup of tea'.aaj India England ka one day match bhi hai'.uncle do you like cricket?"
"Sure beta'.paar tum teeno chaley jao ghoomney'..I will be fine'.I just need some rest'yeh sab tumharey tandoori chicken sey hua hai.." Shashank laughed
Sid intervened, "Nahin'.main uncle ke saath reh jaata hoon'"
The 3 of them started arguing about who would stay and who would go.
Riddhima finally put her foot down, "OK..OK'I have a suggestion'.main aadha din Sid ke saath jaaoongi aur phir lunch ke baad Armaan ke saath'.will that work?"
They all agreed to the arrangement. Riddhima and Sid left after saying goodbye, "see you after lunch, Armaan!"
Sid and Riddhima roamed around in some of the museums and palaces. Riddhima was fascinated by the queen's and princess Diana's collection of garments, jewelry, accessories. Sid followed her wherever she wanted to go.
Once they were trying to cross a street, but Sid was busy taking photographs. He tried to capture Riddhima in every photograph he clicked. Riddhima saw a bus approaching them very closely; she grabbed Sid's hand and pulled him back to the street. "Sid! Be careful'abhi bus ke neeche aa jaate!"
Sid was dumb struck'.no girl had ever held his hand before'..he looked at Riddhima and then at his hand where she had touched him'..he was really happy.
Riddhima did not notice Sid caressing his hand, where she had touched him. She was interested in getting across the street, so she would not miss the show at their next museum.
They had lunch together. Riddhima noticed that Sid had scribbled something on a notepad. She turned her face and started reading, "Sid'.yeh tumney likhi hai?"
Sid nodded. He had written a beautiful poem (in reality composed by our very talented Pallavi from TCC)
Fizayen sur bhi haseen ho gayi
Tera jo haseen saath ho
Sheher yeh aur bhi rangeen ho gayi
Haathon mein jab tera haath ho
Saath chaltey chaltey
Safar aisey hi kat jaye
Din yeh dhaltey dhaltey
Per shaam Kabhi na aaye
Yun hi chaltey rahey
Mulaqaton ka silsila
Teri nazdeekion mein
Mujhko apna kinara mila!
Pallavi
Riddhima smiled and said, "I did not know business school mein poetry bhi sikhaatey hain'."
Sid said shyly, "wo 'bas'kabhi kabhi'.likh leta hoon"
Riddhima asked him to recite some of his other poems, which he did. Sid took time to open up with people, but there was something about Riddhima that made him very comfortable. She was not judgmental about him; she respected him for what he was-something he had not experienced with too many people except perhaps, Armaan. There was no one who understood Sid better than Armaan'.no one'not even Sid himself'.
They got back to the hotel after lunch to find Shashank napping and Armaan watching the cricket match on TV
"arre'you guys are back so soon?" Armaan opened the door.
"Kya score chal raha hai?" Sid asked curiously
"Usual story'.India all out for 210 runs'Englad has just started batting'.." Armaan sounded disheartened at his home team's performance.
Armaan and Riddhima left Sid with Shashank and ventured out into the streets of London.
"Chalo'bus ya subway le lete hain.." Riddhima suggested
"Nahin'c'mon'let's walk'.paidal chalney se hi shahar achche se ghoom saktey hain'"
"Parr..Armaan hum sab cheezen nahin dek sakengey''London is so big!"
"Koyi homework poora thode hi karna hai'don't check the boxes Riddhima'.let's enjoy the city" he pulled her hand and started crossing the street. Riddhima's face turned red as soon as he touched her; she just followed him, unaware of where they were going.
They came to the famous 'Tower of London," Riddhima was really interested in going there. They purchased tickets and went inside.
Armaan barely stayed inside for 5 minutes; he went out and sat on a bench in the beautiful lawns of the monument. Riddhima stayed back, as she enjoyed observing all the artifacts and jewels and crowns of the old world.
Riddhima joined him after an hour, "kya hua? Itni jaldi kaise aa gaye? They have a very exquisite collection here'"
"You know Riddhima, jab main chhota tha'.main bhi ek chor tha.." Riddhima was shocked to hear that. She said, "Chor?"
"Haan..chor'jab main ghar se bhaaga tha tho chori karney laga tha'parr main un logon sey chori karta tha jo mujh sey bahut zyaada amir the'.parr us zurm ke liya bhi mujhey juvenile court mein jaana padha tha''yahan is tower mein ek amir desh ney, ek gharib desh ka saaman chura karr rakha hai'..aur saari duniya sey yahan log aakar un precious cheezon ko aakar appreciate kartey hain'..yahan ke chor kisi court mein kyon nahin pesh hotey?" Armaan's voice was trembling in anger and he got up from the bench to leave.
Riddhima got up and followed him to the exit gate, "Armaan'.I had no idea you are so patriotic'."
"Kyon? Do I have to wear a dhoti-kurta to be one?" they both started laughing. Armaan's comments and views on different issues always amazed Riddhima'..he was full of contradictions''Jaisa lagta hai'shayad waisa hai nahin'.
"Chalo'coffee peetey hain" Armaan suggested.
They sat down and ordered coffee. Riddhima looked at Armaan, who was still wearing his dark glasses indoors, "Armaan, aap andar bhi kaala chashma pehney hain?"
He laughed, "Oh yeh'.main nahin chahta koyi meri aankhon mein dekhey,,,iss liye'" he took them off and looked at her, pointing to his glasses, "these are like curtains'..no one has ever looked inside my window," he winked at her as he sipped his coffee. Riddhima was confused at his comment again and changed the subject, "aap ney bataaya nahin'Sid kitni achchi kavita likhtey hain'."
"Oh Ya'Sid gaana bhi bahut achcha gaata hai'.aap bhi tho gaati hai na?"
"Haan'kabhie kabhie'but do you also write poetry?"
Armaan laughed out loudly, "poetry or main?'.mujhey kabhi samajh nahin aaya poets kehna kya chahtey hain'for instance'..kavi kehtey hain badal jaise ghaney baal'.." he looked at her thick open straight hair admiringly, and continued, "ab dekhiye'aap ke baalon ko main yadi ghaney badal kahun tho aapkey baalon ki insult hogi'.ghaney badal are like a old woman's thatch of grey hair'your hair are way prettier than that'..and then my favorite is chaand jaisa mukhda'..aapke face ko main yadi chaand kahoon, that would be an insult'..chaand ko paas sey dekho tho kitney gaddhey hain uss par'.aapkey chehrey par tho ek pimple bh nahin hai'"
" "Armaan'you are too much'" she laughed
Armaan looked into her eyes, "another one'.kavi kehtey hain uski aankhey machli jaisi hain'.yadi aapki aankhein machli jaisi hoti, tho kya main unkey andar jhaank kar aapke dil ki baat jaan paata'sirf scales and fins hi dikhtey" Riddhima's face turned red at that comment and she lowered her eyes.
"kavi yeh bhi kehtey hain ki uskey honth gulab ke phool ki tarah hai'." She looked up at him trying to understand what he was really saying'was he making fun of poets or indirectly complimenting her looks and features'..
Armaan continued, "I think that is a wrong analogy'.when I kiss a woman, I just don't kiss her lips'I work all around her face'her neck and ehem..ehem'.but if I were to kiss a rose, it is surrounded by thorns every where'.I think that is an insult to woman's beauty'" Riddhima was completely red now'..she felt like had actually been kissed by him at all those spots.
"Sorry! I did not mean to insult poets'"Armaan saw the expression on her face-a mixture of horror and shock-he loved seeing such expressions on people, specially her!
He tried to lighten up the air, "waise'main ek analogy dey sakta hoon'.you know I am not a poet'''jab aap hansti hain na'.tab aisa lagta hai'aisa lagta hai ki ek banjar zameen parr baarish ki pehli boondein gir rahi ho'.wohi khushi aap ki muskurahat bhi mere'.mera matlab hai aur sab logon ko bhi milti hogi'"
Riddhima looked at him, trying to understand him again, but before she could look into his eyes for answers, Armaan got up and put his dark glasses back on, "Let's go Riddhima'.."
PART 4:
Armaan and Riddhima left the coffee shop; they walked a few blocks without saying a word to each other. Although, there was a deafening silence between them, they both felt that their little chat about poetry and poets had shown them a glimpse into each other's hearts.
Riddhima's expressive eyes and her facial expressions told Armaan that she was obviously attracted to him. Riddhima understood that Armaan had indirectly complimented her, and her looks. As they were lost in their thoughts, unpredictable London weather showered them with a burst of rainfall. They ran to get shelter, as they were not prepared for the deluge.
Armaan looked back to see if Riddhima was following-he saw that she had slipped on the pavement and was trying to remove her sandals. Armaan ran back to her, "KYA HUA!" the thunder was deafening and he had to shout at the top of his lungs.
Riddhima, who was still on the ground, showed him her sandal- the high heel had snapped into two as she was running.
Armaan shook his head and gave her a hand to stand up. She removed the other sandal too and ran bare foot behind him till they found a shelter.
When they were finally in a covered area, Armaan spoke, "RIDDHIMA! High heels kyun pehni? Itna chlna padhta hai yahan'kuch comfortable pehan na chahiye tha.."
"Who said I am not comfortable in high heels?'..I was practically born wearing them!" she snapped
"You women!" he shook his head and smiled, "fashion karna zaroori hai'chahey jaan hi chali jaaye'."
"Meri galti kahan hai yadi meri sandal ek pot hole mein attak gayi?'." She was visibly annoyed
Armaan just smiled and figured it was best to stay quiet. When the rain subsided, they started walking again.
"Riddhima'chalo wahan shoe store hai'.let's get some shoes for you'.aagey bahut chalna hai'"
Riddhima agreed as walking bare foot was more uncomfortable than walking with one broken sandal.
Riddhima looked at various shoes and sandals but Armaan, who was standing in a corner, kept shaking his head and rejecting her choices. He finally came over with a beautiful pair of sandals, which were not too high but looked trendy and comfortable. Riddhima tried them out and agreed to buy them, "Armaan'.you have good taste in shoes," she said as she paid for them.
Armaan looked at her from head to toe and rolled his tongue, "I know'.I have good taste!"
Riddhima flustered at his last comment as she felt his eyes touching every part of her body, "oh..oh'let's go'"
Armaan then stopped in front of a trendy clothing store, "Riddhima'..do you mind helping me select something for one of my girlfriend's?"
"ONE of your girlfriend's?'..how many do you have?" she laughed
"Well, I have lost track, hongi koyi 10-15'..parr that keeps changing by the hour'.I need to be ready'.you know" he winked and they both started laughing
Armaan selected a beautiful pastel colored knee length dress, 'Riddhima'can you please try this?"
"Why me? I may be a different size from your girlfriend'.."
He looked her over, making her uncomfortable, specially as she was still dripping from the rain, her top and skirt hugging her body and accentuating her curves even more, "Nahin'she is about your size'.please try it out'" she could not say no and went to the fitting room.
She saw her reflection in the mirror after changing up- the dress was as though made for her-she came out and displayed herself to Armaan.
Armaan, with his fingers resting on his chin, thought for a moment and said, "let's see'." He turned her around with his hands and checked her out from all angles, "chalega'..I think she will like it'" Riddhima felt a little insulted for a moment, "I am not a mannequin'I am just helping you out'.let me go and change!" she turned around to go back to the fitting room.
Armaan grabbed her wrist, "Don't change Riddhima'..just bring your old clothes back'..you need to wear something dry, warna uncle ki tarah tum bhi bimaar ho jaaogi.." Riddhima did not realize that Armaan had addressed her as "tum" now and not "aap" anymore'..it was just so natural'almost like it was his "haq"
Riddhima crossed her arms ," main itni naazuk nahin hoon'..Ahchee!'.ahchee!" before she could complete her sentence, she broke out into a fit of sneezes'..Armaan just smiled and went ahead and paid for the outfit.
As they were walking outside, Riddhima asked, "Armaan'.aap directly kuch baat kyon nahin kehtey'harr cheez ko ghuma phira ke kyon kehtey ho'.?"
Armaan turned to her and seriously said, "Riddhima, jab zindagi hi ek seedha rasta nahin hai'tho hum kyon kisi ke liye seedha seedha rasta apnaaye'.let other's figure it out themselves," he smiled and put his dark glasses back again as the sun peeked out from the clouds again.
Riddhima disagreed, "Armaan'zindagi yadi itni uljhi huyi hai'.why not make it easier by being straight forward rather than making it more mysterious?"
Armaan had no answer for her; he just walked towards the next subway station, "chalo'train se wapas chaltey hain'."
They boarded the train towards Riddhima's hotel. Armaan sat across from Riddhima in the train. They both pretended that they were busy doing something else-Armaan had a newspaper and Riddhima was looking out of the window-but kept exchanging glances with each other every so often. Armaan's eyes were still shielded by his shades, but he had a nagging feeling that Riddhima was able to see them through the dark glasses'..
Song in background-a new beautiful song from "Anwar"- "maula mere maula sung by Roop Kumar Rathod (definitely worth listening if u haven't heard yet..)

PART 5:
Armaan and Riddhima reached the hotel room by late afternoon.
"Match ka kya hua?" Armaan asked as soon as they returned
"Usual story'.India lost by 5 wickets'..kahan kahan ghoom aaye?" Sid asked; he was surprised to see Riddhima dressed in different clothes and Armaan still wet from the rain.
"Lagta hai baarish mein bheeg gaye'.." Shashank said
"Uncle'how are you feeling now?" Armaan enquired
"Perfect'..thanks to both of you'.I managed to get rest and Riddhima did not miss out on London''.bahut achche ladke ho aap dono'..Billy has done a good job raising you" Shashank was mentally making notes about who would be a better suitor for his daughter.
"Thanks uncle'.aisa kartey hain raat ka dinner yahin parr kartey hain'.we will just order in, that way we can all be here with you'." Armaan suggested
"Sounds like a plan'."Riddhima said as she got rid of her sandals and plunged into the couch.
"I will just go back and change, Sid why don't you order?" Armaan looked at Sid
"No'why don't I come with you'.mere camera ki disc bhi full ho chuki hai'I need another one'." Sid intervened
"OK'.we will see you in an hour or so'." Armaan and Sid left as Riddhima rested on the couch and dozed off
'Riddhima'Riddhima?" Shashank wanted to talk to her about the two men but found her deep in sleep and just shook his head and smiled. 'Waise tho dono ladkey achchey hain, parr Sid zyada seedha saadha hai, aur waise bhi Armaan tho adopted hai'hmm'..Riddhima ki jo bhi marzi ho'.I will be accept it'" he closed his eyes and dozed off too.
[SIZE=7>ARMAAN AND SID'S HOTEL ROOM:
As Armaan was changing his clothes, he saw a red mark on the left sleeve of his shirt, 'Hmm'looks like a lipstick mark..," he remembered Riddhima standing close to him when they were under the shelter from the rain. At one point, there was a loud thunder and she had literally squeezed his arm from fear, most likely her lips must have touched his sleeve then. He smiled as he remembered how close she had been and then kissed the lipstick stain, "ab yeh shirt kabhi laundary mein nahin jaayegi"
Armaan turned around and saw Sid's camera lying on the bed. He picked it up and said, 'Hey Sid, abhi disc mat change karna'.let me look at the pictures from the morning'.dekhey kya miss kiya mainey'."
Armaan reviewed all the pictures and felt a lump in his throat-all the pictures had one theme- Riddhima, Riddhima, Riddhima- with various London landmarks in the background, most of them barely visible or out of focus. Armaan looked up at Sid and tried to hide the pain in his voice, "Sid'yeh London darshan huye hain ya Riddhima darshan?"
"Kya matlab?" Sid came closer, at that comment
Armaan pointed the camera's LED screen towards him, "Yeh kya hai'.I can't tell yeh London hai ya Mumbai'but I can definitely tell you like Riddhima!" he smiled and patted Sid's back. Sid lowered his eyes and shyly replied, "yaar'.aisa kuch nahin hai'.mujhey apney jaisa mat samajh'."
"Mere jaisa nahin hai tabhi tho chup hai'.main hota tho kab ka zor zor sey elaan karr deta ki I LIKE RIDDHIMA'.stay off limits!"
"Let it go Armaan'..chal let's go'..wo mujhey kyon pasand karegi?.."
"Kyon nahin karegi?" Armaan asked
'Yaar'wo thodi modern type hai'I am not that outgoing you know'."
"Sid wo kitni bhi modern ho, andar se bilkul seedi saadhi hindustani ladki hai'.I can say that confidently"
"Chal'they would be waiting for us" Sid extended his hand for his camera
Armaan gave the camera back to Sid and smiled to himself, "Sid'.you have made the right choice'." He tried to wipe the tear that had just rolled down from his eye; he put on his jacket and collected the room keys.
[SIZE=7>RIDDHIMA'S ROOM:
After dinner, they all sat around and chatted. Armaan observed that Sid was smitten by Riddhima. Sid did not participate in the conversation as much as he spent time gazing at Riddhima. Riddhima noticed that Armaan looked a little worn down himself-he was not his jovial self-may be he was tired from all the walking in the rain she thought.
"Hey'Riddhima'please sing a song for us'" Armaan said out of the blue
"Sing?" she was surprised at the change of the topic
"Haan'pehley tum gaao'..phir Sid gaayega'" he winked at Sid
"A..Armaan'.please main nahin'." Sid came out of his trance
"You guys can decide kaun pehley gaayega'..gaana tho hai tum dono ko'" Armaan said authoritatively
Shashank agreed with Armaan, "Haan beti'tere gaane sey meri tabiyat bhi theek ho jaayegi'Armaan beta tum nahin gaatey?"
"Oh..uncle'yahan London mein gadhey nahin hain'warna unkey liye zaroor gaa deta'aap log tho mera gaana sun nahin paayengey" Armaan laughed as everyone joined in.
"He is right about that'.ek baar Armaan was singing in the bathroom, I had to leave the house'itna besuraa hai yeh'.." Sid laughed as he complimented Armaan on his singing skills.
Riddhima smiled as she thought how comfortable the 2 men were with each other-they pulled each other's legs with the same ease, as they helped each other. She could tell their personalities were poles apart but they complimented each other so well, that there was almost no room for anyone else in their relationship. She felt a little envious- would she ever be able to be a part of their camaraderie, may be as the third angle of the triangle??
Riddhima looked out and saw it was still raining. She sang this beautiful song to welcome the rain, "sawan ke jhoole" from "Jurmana"
http://www.dishant.com/lyrics/song-40143.html
saawan ke zoole pade, tum chale aaotum chale aao, tum chale aaoaanchal naa chhode meraa, paagal huyee hain pawanab kyaa karu main jatan dhadake jiyaa jaise panchhee udedil ne pukaaraa tumhe, yaadon ke parades seaatee hain jo desh sen, hum us dagar pe hain kab se khadejab hum mile the piyaa, tum kitane naadaan thehum kitane anajaan the, baalee umareeyaan mein nainaa laden
As she sang, she kept stealing glances with Armaan, who purposely had his eyes closed as if enjoying the song. He knew if he looked at Riddhima, she would be able to read his mind. He would not be able to control his emotions as he heard the beautiful lyrics of the song.
Sid stared at Riddhima without blinking and was lost in her melodious voice.
Armaan and Sid gave her a standing ovation at the end of the song. Riddhima just blushed and lowered her eyes.
Sid sang a beautiful ghazal from "umrao jaan"- "zindagi jab bhi"
http://www.dishant.com/lyrics/song-2104.html
zindagi jab bhi teri bazm mein laati hai hamen ye zamin chand se behatar nazar aati hai hamen surkh phulon se mahak uthati hain dil ki rahen din dhale yun teri aawaz bulaati hai hamen yaad teri kabhi dastak kabhi saragoshi se raat ke pichhale prahar roz jagaati hai hamen har mulaqat ka anjaam judai kyun hai ab to har vaqt yahi baat satati hai hamen
Every one complimented Sid for the beautiful ghazal. Riddhima looked at Armaan and thought about the last few lines of the ghazal, "har mulaqat ka anjaam judai kyun hai'."
She wanted to spend more time with them''or was it just Armaan?
Armaan and Sid finally left later in the night.
As Riddhima settled to go to bed, Shashank asked, "beti'.main soch raha hoon, tumhari shaadi karr deni chahiye.."
"PAPA! Are you tired of me?"
"Nahin beti'..you will get tired of me'.batao Sid aur Armaan mein sey kaun pasand hai?"
"WHAT? Papa aap kya keh rahey hain? Maine unkey baarey mein aisa socha bhi nahin hai'.please papa soney dee jiye'good night" She put her head on the pillow and fell asleep reminiscing the events of the day'..the rain'..how close she was to Armaan'..Armaan grabbing her hand''zzz
That night, everyone slept well except Armaan, who tossed and turned in bed all night'..mujhey aaj tak kisi ladki ke liye aisa mahsoos nahin hua'..phir ab kyon?'.nahin mujhey aisa sochna bhi nahin chahiye'.Sid ko pehli baar kisi ladki mein interest aaya hai'..he deserves the best''.

PART 6:
The next day, Shashank was feeling better but decided to rest an additional day. Riddhima, Sid and Armaan kept the same arrangement for "London darshan." Armaan wanted Sid to spend more time with Riddhima and insisted on staying back the whole day, but Sid convinced him to "go out" with Riddhima in the afternoon. Riddhima was glad that Sid was able to persuade him; she had realized that it was very difficult to dissuade Armaan from doing something he did not want.
Riddhima thought about what her dad had mentioned the previous night. She knew, her dad was right; after all she had to start thinking of settling down some day. She decided to use this opportunity to learn more about the brothers, in case her father was right.
When Sid and Riddhima were in the bus, going towards Trafalgar square, she asked him, "Sid'aapki aur Armaan ki relationship kaisi hai?"
"Hmm'Armaan aur meri relationship? Well'.we are the best of friends and the closest brothers you would ever see'"
"Wo tho maine jaan liya hai'.parr aap dono itney different hain?"
"Haan'..Armaan is my jaan'..although we are just a few months apart in age, he is like my big brother'..he has always taken care of me'..yadi wo nahin hota tho main aaj shayad pagal khaane mein hota'" he started laughing
"Aisa kyun?" Riddhima was surprised at that comment.
"I am just kidding'..Armaan has always been a my strength'.after my mother's death, he pulled me out of severe depression'..uskey baad bhi, he has helped me emotionally whenever I need him''you know he understands me better than I understand my self'..mujhey batana bhi nahin padhta and he knows what is going on inside me'.jaise'.jaise'"
"Jaise kya?" Riddhima asked
Sid was too shy to tell her about how Armaan had figured out that Sid liked Riddhima
"Kuch nahin'.time aaney parr bataa doonga'.chalo hamara stop aa gaya'."
They came off the bus and enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the "Trafalgar square." Sid clicked away with his camera, as Riddhima fed the pigeons and enjoyed the surroundings. She thought to herself, "kaash Armaan bhi yahan hota" Every time she thought of Armaan, she could feel goose bumps on her skin, and her heart pounding faster.
"Achcha Sid, aap Armaan ko kitni achchi tarah samajhtey ho?" Riddhima approached Sid, who was trying to review the pictures, he had just taken. He made sure, he clicked "London" today and not just "Riddhima," so Armaan would not pull his leg.
"Hmm'kya'.main Armaan ko kitna samajhta hoon?'.Armaan ko samajhney ke liye PhD karni padhegi'.main uski har baat tho nahin samajh pata, parr itna jaanta hoon ki he doesnot mean what he says most of the time'..jaise'" Sid paused as he tried to delete some of the pictures.
"Jaise?" Riddhima was impatient to hear more
"Jaise'wo kehta hai na ki kitni ladkiyon ke saath uska affair raha hai'.I don't think he has even touched a single woman'touch in the sense'..you know what I mean'.he just likes to shock people'..never take him seriously in that matter'.."
She did not know why, but that last statement about Armaan, made her happy.
"You know, the other thing about Armaan'..wo andar se bahut sensitive and soft hai'he has a heart of gold'..he will do anything for the people he cares about'." Sid could go on and on'..
Riddhima smiled to herself as she was hearing what she really wanted to hear.
As they walked towards the subway station, she asked Sid, "I know tumhari understanding bahut achchi hai Armaan ke saath, parr kabhi aisa hua ki tum dono ko ek hi cheez pasand aa gayi ho'.for instance there is this really cool sports car you both like'tab kya karogey?" Riddhima looked at Sid intently for an answer.
"Hmm'that would be a difficult one'..main jaanta hoon'yadi Armaan ko pata chala ki I also like the car, he will pretend he does not like it, even if he does'..I know wo mere liye itna jhooth tho bol hi dega'.but why do you ask?"
The color from Riddhima's face faded when she heard that, "Bas aise hi'I am just trying to figure out the two of you," she tried to smile.
That afternoon, Armaan and Riddhima roamed around the city. Armaan was more receptive to using transportation and did not insist on walking everywhere. Riddhima thought he was more aloof today; she did not find him staring and gazing at her, or trying to make physical contact with her like he had the last few days. He agreed to whatever or wherever she wanted to go. She preferred the other Armaan'the one who teased her, the one who pulled her leg, the one who looked at her as if she was the most desirable woman he had ever met'..what had happened in 24 hrs?
When they sat down at a coffee shop, she asked him the same question, as she had asked Sid about the sports car. Armaan laughed when he heard the question, "that is a difficult one, Riddhima'hmm let me think'.you know if he really wants it, I would let him have it, but knowing how scared Sid is of fast cars, I would end up driving it anyways'.so in a way, it would still be mine!" he winked and smiled at her. She was glad, he was back to his charming self''..the talkative, over-confident Armaan she had started liking.
That same evening, Armaan made a suggestion, 'let's go dancing'.kyon Sid"
"No, yaar'main wahan bore ho jata hoon'."
Riddhima was excited, 'I would love to go'.I love dancing!"
Sid got up, "OK'let's go then!"
Armaan smiled and thought, "Sid'.you really like her'.."
AT THE DANCE CLUB:
Armaan, Sid and Riddhima sat at a table and ordered some drinks. Armaan got up, "Main abhi aata hoon'"
Riddhima looked up, "Kahan ja rahey ho?.," before she could complete her sentence, Armaan had disappeared in the crowd.
Sid put his hand on Riddhima's, "don't worry Riddhima, aa jaayega'.koyi sunder ladki dekh li hogi'" Riddhima was annoyed at that comment, "paar hum sab saath aaye hain'.aise kaise chhod sakta hai hamein'.," before she could say more, Armaan was back with a white girl in his arms
"Hey guys'.meet Tina'..she and I will be dance partners tonight'..Sid why don't you ask Riddhima for a dance?" Armaan turned around, without looking at Riddhima, and disappeared on the dance floor with Tina. Sid and Riddhima stayed seated as Riddhima kept glancing sideways, every so often, to keep an eye on Armaan and Tina. They seemed to be having fun as they danced to various music numbers-hip hop, rap, disco, etc. Riddhima felt a twinge of jealousy, as she had expressed it clearly how much she enjoyed dancing, but Armaan had ignored that fact, and preferred to dance with a stranger. She was not upset with Sid, as he had made it clear; he was not the dancing types.
A short while later, a sweaty Armaan returned hand-in-hand with Tina, "Hey guys, you are still here?'C'mon they are going to have some slow dancing now'.chalo Sid and Riddhima, I want to see how you guys move'.."
"Excuse me hon''.I 'll be right back" Tina waved at someone and disappeared.
Riddhima finally got up, "You mind dancing with me Armaan?"
Armaan was stunned but could not say no, as Sid was still seated with a drink in his hand, showing no interest in wanting to dance with the woman he loved.
Armaan smiled and took Riddhima's hand, "Sid'abhi bhi soch ley'."
When Sid shook his head, Armaan walked with Riddhima to the dance floor.
To Riddhima's luck, they played a beautiful soft romantic number. All the couples started dancing to the music. Armaan placed his arm around Riddhima's waist and took her hand in his; they both started swaying with the music'.they did not realize that as they kept dancing, there bodies came closer and closer, to the point that they could feel each others heartbeats. Riddhima could feel his breathing getting heavier, as she came closer; she looked up at him and saw his eyes were burning with passion. She could feel his strong back muscles through his sweaty shirt and smell his cologne on his neck''..they both were lost in each others arms''unaware of the fact that the music had stopped, and the other couples had separated from each other. Armaan suddenly realized that the music was over; he freed himself and looked a little embarrassed, 'main kuch peeney ke liye lata hoon'..do you want something?"
Riddhima lowered her eyes and said, 'nahin'main Sid ke saath baith thi hoon'.."
Sid was talking to someone, "Hi Riddhima'in sey milo'.mere bachpan ke dost'..Manek, ab yeh London mein hi rehta hai'"
"Hi, nice to meet you'" Riddhima said politely but her eyes were still searching for Armaan
"So Sid'.looks like you found yourself a girlfriend!" Manek, who was generally outspoken, made a comment.
Riddhima stared at him, " No'we are just friends'.we just met in London'"
Sid felt a little odd at his friend's outspokenness, "Manek'.aisa kuch nahin hai'.she is right'we are just friends''
"Haan'.shuroo mein sab aise hi kehte hain'.I am sure I will receive a shaadi ka card soon'" Manek laughed. Riddhima and Sid were both uncomfortable at that remark and took leave from him.
Sid was not entirely displeased with the comment but tried to reassure Riddhima, 'please wo shuroo sey hi aisa hai'uski baat ka bura nahin maan naa'"
"Main zara restroom ho karr aathi hoon'." Riddhima excused herself.
As she was approaching the restroom, two young British men followed her and started harassing her, 'Hey sweetheart'..wanna join us'..looks like you are alone'.."
Riddhima tried to ignore them, but they kept following her and tried to hold her hand. Just then, Riddhima heard some scuffles. She turned around and saw Armaan on the floor, fighting it out with one of them.
'Hey dude'what is your problem?'.you are here with Tina'.is she your girl too?" the other man said
Armaan got up and punched the other man, "Ya'SHE IS MY GIRL'.lay off'you bas****"
"Hey'Pete and Bob'stop it guys'leave him alone'.he paid me well tonight'.," Tina intervened and separated the men.
Armaan shook his clothes and put his arm around Riddhima, "let's go Riddhima'.." Riddhima was still numb after the whole experience but had a warm feeling inside her'.she felt very safe'.she felt she need not worry about anything as lomg as Armaan was with her'.she liked it when he called her "his girl."
"Armaan'kya hua'.tuney phir kisi sey ladai karr li?" a concerned Sid joined them, 'KHOON!" Sid screamed as he saw a little blood oozing from Armaan's hand. Sid turned his face as he got a queasy feeling in his stomach.
Riddhima looked at Armaan's bleeding hand and took her scarf out from her neck. She took Armaan's hand and tied the scarf around it to stop the bleeding.
Armaan looked at his hand and then at Riddhima, "Riddhima yeh kya kiya?'.itna mehnga scarf'.yahan kyon baandh diya'.?"
Riddhima looked at him with loving eyes and just smiled, 'koyi baat nahin'.is sey bhi mehnga scarf mere liye baad mein khareed dena''"
Armaan wanted to hold her in his arms and kiss her at that very moment, but stopped himself, "Sid'ab tu turn karr sakta hai'khoon nahin beh raha'..yeh Sid bhi na khoon dekh karr behosh ho jata hai'.he is very tender hearted'." Armaan tried to defend Sid and patted his back,as the three of them walked out of the club.
On the way back in the cab, Riddhima sat between the two men. Armaan's wounded hand was resting on his thigh. She wanted to hold his hand and kiss it tenderly, she wanted all his pain to go away'..she really wanted to be "his girl"'..she was sure she was in LOVE WITH THIS MYSTERIOUS MAN'..
PART 7:
Once they were back at their hotel room, Armaan and Sid talked about the evening.
"Armaan tujhey lagta hai Riddhima bura maan gayi hogi kyunki mainey uske saath dance nahin kiya?"
Armaan, who was lost in his own thoughts, responded, "Hmm'.bura kyon nahin maanegi'..tu abhi bhi apni high school ke dance disaster ke wajah se kisi ke saath dance nahin karta'yehi baat hai na?"
"Haan, mujhey abhi bhi darr lagta hai kisi ladki ke saath dance karney mein'.yaad hai kaise mazaak udaaya tha sabney jab main Dolly ke saath steps nahin match karr paya tha.."
"Yaar wo Dolly thi'...yeh Riddhima hai'..you need to show her that you like her'.kahin aisa na ho wo kisi aur ki ho jaaye'." Armaan's fears were not unfounded; he had sensed that Riddhima was attracted to him-in fact after tonight he had no doubts'the way she held him during the dance'.her heart pounding against his chest'..how concerned she had been about his wound''.he had reciprocated to her feelings too, but he was hoping, she would not see this as a sign that he was interested in her'..he would have to make sure, he kept his distance from her''kahin mere dil ki baat wo meri aankhon mein naa dekh le '..
Armaan dressed his wound and took the scarf off. He looked at the scarf and savored it's fragrance''..it felt like she was still in his arms'''he folded the scarf and placed it in the same bag as his lipstick stained shirt.
[SIZE=7>NEXT MORNING:
Shashank felt much better, "beti'.yahan Birmingham mein suna hai bahut sunder mandir hai'.chalo aaj wahan chaley'..15 saal pehley jab tumhari mummy ke saath aaya tha, tho hum log wahan jaana chahtey the'..ab jab ki Padma nahin hai is duniya mein, mera mann hai hum wahan jaaye'."
"Theek hai papa'.aaj hi chaltey hain'.parr Sid aur Armaan na aana chahey tho?"
"Theek hai'wo log aaj kuch aur karr lengey.."
Riddhima changed into a light blue churidaar kurta and answered the door. She saw her two new found friends at the door, "Good morning Armaan and Sid'."
Sid admired her "Indian look" but did not say anything. Armaan could not resist himself, "aaj mandir-wandir jaaney ka iraada hai kya?"
"Kuch aisa hi hai'" Shashank welcomed them
"Haan uncle'hum bhi chalengey'." Sid said enthusiastically-he would do anything to be with Riddhima.
Riddhima looked at Armaan and smiled, "thodi pooja paath se aap logon ki shaan mein koyi kami nahin aayegi'.."
"Bilkul nahin'.jab London aakar hum dal makhani kha saktey hain, tho mandir kyon nahin jaa saktey'." Armaan was back with his witty comments.
They reached Birmingham by bus and train. Armaan made sure that Riddhima and Sid rode together for most of the journey. He in turn gave company to Shashank and entertained him with his anecdotes and jokes. Riddhima was impatient to be close to Armaan.
As they were walking inside the beautiful hindu temple, Riddhima made sure, she walked with Armaan, "Armaan, ab haath kaisa hai?"
Armaan was surprised to hear her voice, "Oh..wo theek hai'..your magical scarf did the trick!" he smiled and could not help notice Riddhima blushing at that comment. He decided to keep quiet till they reached the temple, "main abhi aata hoon'"
Armaan got hold of the priest in the temple, "Panditji'.aap wahan uss ladkey aur ladki ko dekh rahey hain," he pointed to Riddhima and Sid, "aap jab hamarey paas arti laayen'tho unko saath saath aashirwad de dena'." He slipped some money as "dakshina" in the priest's hand.
They all offered their prayers to the various deities. Sid was impressed to see what a devout Riddhima was in the temple, "yaar Armaan'tu theek kehta tha'.Riddhima chahey bahar se kitni hi modern ho'.andar se bilkul apni Hindustani ladki hai'.," Sid whispered in his ear.
"Meri baat maanega, tho hamesha khush rahega'" Armaan whispered back
The priest approached them with the 'pooja thali," but before he could offer the arti and teeka to them, he was called back by another priest, "wo..aapko peechey bula rahey hain'kuch Prasad ka maamla hai'.."
The priest handed the pooja thali to Armaan, who was standing right in front of him, "beta, zara'..yeh arti aur teeka sab ko laga dena, main aata hoon'."
Armaan obliged and offered the arti and placed teeka on everyone's forehead. When he approached Riddhima, she took her blessings from the arti and lifted her head to get the teeka from Armaan. Armaan was about to place the kumkum teeka on her forehead, when a moving insect bit her on her foot, "OUCH!" she slipped down but Armaan's kumkum laden thumb was already on her forehead'.as she slipped, his thumb extended the teeka all the way to her "maang." She fell down on the floor, right at Armaan's feet!
Sid helped her get up on her feet and escorted her to the side. Armaan was dumbstruck 'he stood still with the thali in his hand and his thumb still in the air-he just realized what had just happened. Whether it was fate or an accident-he had filled Riddhima's maang with kumkum and she had touched his feet! He could not believe that. No one else noticed what had happened as Shashank and Sid were helping her nurse the insect bite on her foot. Riddhima looked up and saw Armaan still standing with the thali. She placed her hand on her head and felt the teeka in her "maang." She had tears in her eyes, she forgot the insect bite and smiled through her tears.
"Riddhima kya hua'.lagta hai bahut zor se keeda kaata hai'.?" Sid was worried when he saw her tears- the bite was probably deeper than it looked.
Riddhima came back into her senses, "nahin Sid'I am fine'.chalo chaltey hain'" she got up but kept staring at Armaan. Their eyes were still locked with each other'..they were the only one's who noticed what had just happened'..rest of the crowd was oblivious of this divine intervention.
Riddhima and Armaan were uncharacteristically quiet on the return journey. They sat across from each other in the train, Sid read a book and Shashank napped. Armaan and Riddhima exchanged a lot of glances with each other but did not say a word to each other. As the train stopped at various stops, Riddhima could see her reflection in the glass window'..her "maang" was still red from where Armaan had filled it. Sid and Shashank saw what had happened but they dismissed it as an "accident."

A FEW DAYS LATER:
Armaan and Sid were ready to go back to Mumbai. Riddhima and Shashank still had another week of vacation; they were planning to visit Scotland and Ireland during that time. They came to the airport to see the men off. They all exchanged phone numbers and e mail addresses. Riddhima was sad to see them leave. She had really enjoyed their company'she would specially miss Armaan. Armaan and Sid were sad to leave them two.
Sid, who rarely spoke about his feelings, looked at Riddhima and her dad, "Uncle'humein aisa laga ki hum aap logon ko sirf 2 hafte se nahin, parr bahut pehley se jaante hain'.please stay in touch." Armaan nodded his head and was pleased that Sid finally spoke up.
"We will call you as soon as we reach Mumbai'..Billy se miley bhi kitney saal ho gaye'" Shashank hugged both Sid and Armaan. Next Riddhima gave a bear hug to both Sid and Armaan.
As they were returning back, Riddhima saw the baggage claim carousel-she stopped there and said her silent "thank you," and walked out with her dad. Shashank said, "bahut achche ladke hain'.kya socha tumney Riddhima?'
Riddhima blushed, "Papa'.Mumbai jaakar baat kerengey"
As they rode back to their hotel, Riddhima felt an emptiness inside her'.a lonely feeling'..she really missed them'.
Song in background- 'na jaane kyon" from "choti si baat"
http://www.raaga.com/channels/hindi/movie/V000440.html (remix version but sung well)
Na jaane kyon, hota hai yeh zindagi ke saath
achanak ye man
kisi ke jaane ke baad, kare phir usiki yaad
chhoti chhoti si baat, na jaane kyon
vo anjaan pal
Dhal gaye kal, aaj vo
rang badal badal, man ko machal machal
rahen, na chal na jaane kyon, vo anjaan pal
tere bina mere nainon me
Toote re haay re sapanon ke mahal
na jaane kyon, hota hai yeh zindagi ke saath ...
vahi hai dagar
vahi hai safar, hai nahin
saath mere magar, ab mera hamsafar
dhoonde nazar na jaane kyon, vahi hai dagar
kahaa gaeen shamen madabhari
vo mere, mere vo din gaye kidhar
na jaane kyon, hota hai yeh zindagi ke saath ...
PART 8:
Armaan and Sid arrived home and updated Billy about their trip and the meeting with his old friend, Shashank and his daughter.
"Ladki sunder thi kya?" Billy teased the boys
"Chachaji'sunder bhi aur susheel bhi'..aapkey ghar ke liye bahu material hai'.," he winked at Sid
"Aisi baat hai'.tab tho milna padhega unn logon se'.ab hum teen mardon ko sambhalney koyi aa jaayegi'" Billy was overjoyed
"Chachaji'..yeh tho pata nahin ki wo hamein sambhalegi ya hum ussey sambhalengey'" Armaan retorted
Sid, who was listening quietly so far, finally spoke up, "Nahin Papa'.Armaan ki baton mein mat aaiye'..wo bahut achchi hai'aur'" he paused shyly.
Billy raised his eyebrows and looked at Armaan. Armaan nodded his head. Billy and Armaan had a good understanding, although they were not related by blood, they could read each other's minds well. Billy depended on Armaan more than he did on Sid. Billy was very happy for his son, he patted Armaan's shoulder as if thanking him and left the room.
[SIZE=7>A WEEK LATER:
Shashank and Riddhima returned from Great Britain. Shashank called Billy Malhotra on arrival and they set a time to meet each other. Riddhima was very excited when she heard that they were going to visit Armaan and Sid that afternoon.
Billy was pleased to meet Riddhima too. Riddhima was dressed in a pink salwaar kameez and looked lovely with her open straight hair, light make up and minimal jewelry. Sid came downstairs, when he heard Riddhima was there.
"HI Riddhima! How was the rest of your trip?"
Riddhima smiled, "well'.boring'aap log jo nahin the'." Her eyes wandered, "Armaan kahan hai?"
Sid replied, "Oh'wo tennis khelney club gaya hai'.aao mere saath oopar aao, main tumhey photos dikhata hoon'.," he grabbed her hand and took her upstairs.
Billy and Shashank caught up with their lives in the meantime. Billy finally approached the subject of marriage, "Mere bete keh rahey the ki unhey teri beti bahut pasand hai'"
Shashank was ecstatic, "Billy'tumney tho mere mann ki baat keh di'..maine Riddhima se bhi baat karr li hai'..mujhey lagta hai ussey bhi dono pasand hain'"
Billy winked, "Parr Draupdi ka zamana tho gaya ab'..ussey chun naa tho ek hi ko padhega..," they both laughed loudly.
"Billy'iss maamley mein decision Riddhima ka hi hoga'.."
"Mujhey tho bas bahu chahiye, chahey Sid ki ho ya Armaan ki'." Billy smiled.
SID's ROOM:
Riddhima was impressed with Sid's achievements at display, "wow, Sid tum apney school ke topper the? Aur gold medal in Engineering school'you are so modest'kabhi bataya nahin'..aur yeh kya'..best singer award in college'..hmm'real all rounder'" she smiled as she looked around.
Sid blushed, "Aao Riddhima'tumhey photos dikhata hoon'..," he brought his laptop close to her and they both sat down on the bed to check out the photos. Riddhima was engrossed in the pictures and did not notice that both Billy and Shashank stood at the door admiring her and Sid together. Riddhima finally laughed, "Sid'tumney meri itni saari photos lee hain'.shayad meri poori life mein kisi ney nahin kheenchi hongi'.," she looked up and saw the two old men smiling. She got up a little flustered as she did not want them to misunderstand the situation, "Sid'Armaan kab aayega'..ussey bhi milna chahti thi'?"
"Aao beti'main tumhey club chhod deta hoon'.mujhey bhi uss taraf kaam hai'" Billy offered to drop her at the club
"Thanks uncle'" Riddhima was excited
[SIZE=7>AT THE CLUB:[SIZE=7
Billy dropped Riddhima, 'beti andar poonch lena'.wahan sab Armaan ko jaante hain'mujhey kisi se milna hai'main chalta hoon'.Bye!"
Billy was right, Riddhima did not have a hard time locating Armaan. He was busy playing a tennis game with another friend. She looked at him admiringly, "Armaan'.you look so handsome in this sporty look'.," she said to herself. She started daydreaming about Armaan when she saw someone snapping fingers in front of her face, "kis ke khwab le rahi ho madam?" She snapped out of her dream and saw her prince charming in front of her. She was tempted to hug him, but resisted, "Oh'HI'.I didn't see you coming'.."
"Mujhsey milney aayi ho?" he smiled
"Nahin, yahan tennis match dekhney aayi thi'" she said sarcastically
Armaan laughed, "aao'wahan table parr baith the hain'"
They found an outdoor table and ordered drinks for themselves
"Tho ab batao'.how was the rest of the trip?" Armaan asked as he sipped his coke
"It was wonderful'tum jo nahin the tung karney ke liye'" she smiled teasingly
"Hmm'meri company mein kaafi kuch seekh gayi ho'." He smiled back.
Riddhima became a little serious, "Armaan'dar asal mujhey tumsey zaroori baat karni hai'."
Armaan smiled, "mujhsey aur serious baat?'.main aaj tak serious nahin huya kisi baat parr'.achcha bolo'I am all ears.."
"Armaan'.Armaan," she spoke softly, "Armaan'..I think'I think'I love you'..main tumsey pyaar karti hoon" she lowered her eyes shyly.
Armaan quickly suppressed his initial happiness, as he heard the golden words from her mouth, "Riddhima'.are you sure?"
"Armaan'.as you know main ghuma phira ke baat nahin karti hoon'.I am very straight forward'..I know I have never been this sure in my life'" Riddhima looked up and said firmly.
Armaan put his dark glasses on, stood up and turned his back to the table, "Riddhima'..I don't want to hurt your feelings, but mainey tumhary baarey mein kabhi aisa nahin socha'."
Riddhima stood up and walked a few steps so that she was face to face with Armaan, "tum jhooth bol rahey ho Armaan'..tabhi tum mujhsey aankhein nahin milaa paa rahey'."
Armaan looked away, "Riddhima..you are a good friend, but I am not ready to settle yet'.aur waise bhi tum mere type ki nahin ho'."
Riddhima's eyes were moist now; she said with a husky voice, "Armaan'.main tumsey abhi shaadi ki baat nahin karr rahi hoon'.i just want to hear from you that you also love me'."
"NO I DON"T LOVE YOU!" he turned his back to her again
"ARMAAN! DON'T TURN AWAY LIKE THIS!" she pulled his arm, so that he was forced to turn around and look at her.
"Riddhima'you are mistaken'.Sid loves you, not me'"
"I know Sid is crazy about me'issi liye main tumsey baat karney aayi thi'I don't want Sid's feelings to get hurt'.main jaanti hoon tum ussey theek se samjhaa saktey ho ki we both love each other'..why are you doing this me?'..uss din mandir mein jo huya, wo kya tha?'.tumhari aankhon ney mujhsey yahi kaha tha na ki Riddhima ab tum meri ho'.." her tears were flowing non stop.
"Riddhima'tum padhi likhi ho karr aise andh vishwaas wali baat kyon karr rahi ho'.that was just an accident'just a coincidence.."
"Armaan'.tumhey jo sochna hai soch lo'..bas itna yaad rakhna ki ek ladki apna dil kisi mard ke saamney tabhi kholti hai jab wo ussey apna samajhti hai'..main nahin jaanti tum kyon apney dil ki baat nahin sun rahey'.ho sakta hai yeh mauka phir dobara kabhi aaye ya naa aaye'GOODBYE!" she clenched her teeth in anger and walked away.
Armaan turned around and saw her leave; he took off his dark glasses to wipe his own tears, 'I am sorry Riddhima'.."
Song in background-a new beautiful song from "Anwar"- "maula mere maula sung by Roop Kumar Rathod (definitely worth listening if u haven't heard yet..)
http://www.dishant.com/lyrics/song-57577.html

[SIZE=7>ARMAAN AND SID'S HOTEL ROOM:
[SIZE=7>RIDDHIMA'S ROOM:
[SIZE=7>ARMAAN AND SID'S HOTEL ROOM:
[SIZE=7>RIDDHIMA'S ROOM:
[SIZE=7>NEXT MORNING:
[SIZE=7>
[SIZE=7>A WEEK LATER:
