A brawl between the guests and policemen Saturday night ruined pop star Annie's nuptials here, Geo News reported.
According to reports that poured in from Lahore, Mahia-fame Annie's wedding party revelries crossed the 12:00 AM deadline set by the Punjab government for such events at marriage halls.
Sources told Geo News that police barged in the wedding venue to arrest the bridegroom, Malik Nouraiz Awan, for violating the law of the land.
As the long arm of the law reached the bridegroom, the friends and the family jumped in to save him from spending his first wedding night in the lockup. As a result the wedding hall turned into a fight club. Pro-groom guests stood like a wall between the aggressive cops and Nauraiz. The lawmen took a strong exception to the obstruction they faced in carrying out their duties.
Ultimately an FIR was lodged against fifteen persons including Annie's father, Dr Khalid, father-in-law Mushtaq Awan, and a close relative Malik Shahbaz Awan under sections 353, 186, 148, and 148. All of them have been accused of obstructing the law and attacking the uniformed policemen.
Later talking to Geo News, Annie's husband, said that they did not violate the deadline.
"We were about to leave the hall, when cops crashed in and started beating up the guests. Our jubilations was spoiled for our not submitting to their briberous demands worth Rs1.5 million", said Malik Nauraiz.
On the other hand, SP Cantt, Maroof Wahla, rejected Malik Nauraiz's accusations as baseless.
