Thanks for the information.

Zubeen's voice is very interesting. When I heard it the first time, I felt that if Rajeev gets that consistency and hold on his voice, he'd sound like Zubeen Garg !

Zubeen hit
UMANAND JAISWAL
A scene from Gangster, A Love Story

Guwahati, May 10: The music industry in Assam has hit the perfect note with a chartbuster from the latest Bollywood flick Gangster, A Love Story.

Creating waves of euphoria across the state is the fast and catchy number, Ya Ali, sung by the state's very own Zubeen Garg. The singer-composer actually sings the number on screen.

How huge is the hit and what it means to those in the music trade can be gauged by what Manik Lahoty of Sangam Music — a leading dealer of Saregama India Limited that released the film's music countrywide last month — has to say.

"This hit has come at the right time as the music trade here was going through a bad phase. It has given us reasons to smile during these piracy and election-affected times."

Trade pundits here said Ya Ali, which is lyricist Sayeed Quadri's ode to love and friendship, is also Garg's best Bollywood number till date.

But this is mainly because the singer concentrates more in his home state where he is in a league of his own.

"All the songs in the film are catchy, but the one by Zubeen is clearly its USP. It is a huge hit. Even in the theatres here his fans went berserk when the song was played and this is rare. Ya Ali has topped the charts for the past three weeks," said Manoj Saini of Maruti Music.

Big and small music outlets across the state are definitely singing the song all the way to the bank with more than 35,000 cassettes and 3,000 CDs of the Gangster track already off the shelves.

Traders, however, feel that the success could have been sweeter, but for piracy. "Had it not been for piracy, we would have sold over a lakh audio units. The song has not only helped us smile, but also established Garg in Bollywood," added Lahoty.

Suvojit Roy, the regional marketing manager of Saregama India Limited, could not agree more. At the same time, he hoped that this "phenomenal hit" would help boost the sales of Garg's maiden score as a music director in the Bollywood movie Strings. The film's track is slated to be released soon.

Even Zubeen has been bowled over by the response to Ya Ali. Though he could not be contacted, he had recently said in a TV interview that he was confident about the song doing well, but not in the manner it has across the country.

Music director Pritam had revealed in the same interview that Zubeen was so bowled over by the tune of Ya Ali that he had wanted to sing the song himself.

Feroz Khan Signs Zubeen Garg

http://guwahatitoday.com/music/zubin/zubin_main.html

Remember Zubeen Garg? He's the voice behind the chartbusting song Ya Ali which has stormed the nation. Zubeen, though a big name in his native land Assam, never made it big in Bollywood till Mahesh Bhatt's Gangster shot him into limelight and made him a household name. And now, filmmakers are not in pursuit of Garg and one such prominent filmmaker has become fida over the young singer's voice. And putting his money where his mouth is, Khan has apparently roped in Garg to sing a special number in his remake of Qurbani. Look out, all you singers out there, here's some serious competition.

Zubeen trying to make a place in music :

Singer composer Zubeen Garg may be a little known name in the national music scene, but his significance in his hometown Assam is immense. With Gangster's number 'Ya Ali' he has got wide recognition in the music industry. The track is storming the music charts, and his career as well. With the song Zubeen has surely found his place in Bollywood, after not getting his due with 'Fiza' and 'Kaante'.

The success of the song has surely helped Zubeen to firm his foot in the music industry. But this time he plays a music director apart from playing a singer. He is debuting as a composer with Sanjay Jha's 'Strings'. The film is a cross-cultural love story with Kabir Bedi's son Adam Bedi and Tanistha Chatterjee, both making their debut here. The music is weaved with the story of the film and plays a pivotal part in the screenplay. Though it is a small budget film, yet the music speaks loud. Zubeen has come with an amazing flute piece for one beautiful lovemaking scene and shlokas have been used blended beautifully with western beats. After his successful stint with 'Ya Ali', he'll also be crooning a few numbers here.

'Ya Ali' rocks and so does Zubeen Garg!

Singer composer Zubeen Garg may be a little known name in the national music scene, but his significance in his hometown Assam is immense. But things are going to change for him for the better as he is getting wide recognition in the music industry with Gangster's number 'Ya Ali', the track that is storming the music charts. Though all the songs in the album are peppy and have been appreciated, the one sung by Zubeen has proven to be the best and has proved to be the USP for the album. Even at the theatres the track has proved to be a boon for the film. And this is the reason the track has been in the top of the charts since the last three weeks. With the song Zubeen has surely found his place in Bollywood, after not getting his due with 'Fiza' and 'Kaante'.

Hats off to 'Ya Ali' and the catchy music of Gangster that has sold 35,000 cassettes and 3,000 CDs so far. The figure would have been more but for piracy. The success of the song will surely help Zubeen to firm his foot with his feat of a music director for the film 'Strings'.

Zubeen was confident that 'Ya Ali' would do well, but its overwhelming response from across the country has surprised him as well. Zubeen is a crooner we will hear much of in the days ahead!

All the songs of STRINGS and I must say some of the songs are really nice and different like Ishq Nizzame, Ramo Ramo, Kaise kahoon. Specially don't miss .

Ya Ali takes UK by storm!

If you thought the music of Gangster was only topping charts in India, think again. Those in the UK think it's the best music in recent times too. Apparently, we are told the song Ya Ali has been topping music charts for consecutive weeks in the Queen's country. Singer Zubeen Garg can take a bow, as can music director Pritam. They've certainly created dhoom this time around!

Zubeen spellbinds music lovers at Octave 2006

In the backdrop of the Ministry of Tourism going full steam ahead to promote the Northeast, Octave 2006, an eight-day festival at the Pragati Maidan showcasing the region's diverse and rich heritage, couldn't have taken place at a more opportune time. Needless to say, the cultural extravaganza, flagged off by our Prime Minister Manmohan Singh himself, was a big draw from day one…………………………… Whether it was screening of award-winning films, literary symposiums, poetry reading or book and art exhibitions, the fiesta strived to touch every aspect of the beautiful region's vibrant culture and heritage. But the icing on the cake was the live performance of Zubeen Garg, popular singer from Assam, who took to the stage along with other well-known singers from the Northeast on this lovely full moon day………………………… Manali was covering the event for 'Northeast Sun' and this made it easier for me to recognise the other Northeast singers who are well-known names in their respective states. Reuben Mashangga from Manipur had everyone in splits with his humour-filled performance. Lou Majaw from Shillong rocked and his performance would have given Bon Jovi a run for his money. Even Te Tei Ralte from Mizoram, towards the fag end of the show charmed the audience……………………… But the most awaited performance of the evening was undoubtedly that of Zubeen's as 95 per cent of the gathering at the open air stadium seemed Axomiyas. Indrani's a big big fan of Zubeen. My last minute call to her to let her know about the programme met with the reply, "Moi eyate bohi asu" (I'm sitting here itself) and I wasn't surprised at all! The crowd was an amalgam of the youth and old alike, though students seemed to outnumber everyone else………………………… Zubeen took to the mike accompanied by his musicians and one will have to add here that his new hairdo (he has chopped off his long girl-like tresses) made it difficult to recognise the singer. I'm not too ardent a fan of the singer, but I'm sure everyone else who's heard him sing will agree that his songs do touch one's heart. He started off with a prayer song followed by songs from his latest album 'Jantra'. With requests pouring in from all quarters, he picked songs randomly from his old kitty like Maya, Anamika and of course his Hindi number from 'Kaante'………………………. While the songster sang, most of the people in the crowd swayed to his tunes and what could have been a more fitting finale to his performance than Bihu Geets. A troupe of Bihu dancers performed on stage and what a lovely sight to behold, moreso for someone like me who has missed out on the Bihu functions back home continuously for the past four years……………………… In the true Axomiya spirit, half the crowd got up from their seats and danced to the tune of Zubeen's Bihu songs right below the stage. Amidst all the hubbub, what caught my attention was a spot-the-odd-one-out Sardar replicating the other dancers, and in the process giving us more reasons to laugh and cheer about…………………………… . Truly the show was well worth the visit. In retrospect, everything went well, the festival was a success story but I think it could have been a bigger success had the organisers taken care of certain aspects like more publicity, rescheduling of events (for instance the screening of Jahnu Barua's film 'Konikar Ramdhenu' coincided with Zubeen & the other NE singers' programme. I'm sure it would have put any Axomiya in two minds whether to listen to Zubeen or watch the movie), etc. Still one can't negate anything from the festival and I'm certainly looking forward to more of such events in the days to come.
