Dakssh Ajit Singh to quite Maryaada...

After portraying the first homosexual character on Indian television, the actor calls it an end...

After Maryaada Lekin Kab Tak? got an extension from the channel, the latest we hear is that Dakssh Ajit Singh is all set to leave the show.

According to our source, " Dakssh Ajit Singhwho portrayed the first gay character, Gaurav, on Indian TV is quitting the show as he feels that the character has nothing to do more with the role. It was a mutual decision between him and the production house to end the character."

We contacted Dakssh Ajit Singh who confirmed the news, " Yes I am leaving the show. It's a mutual decision between production house and me. The reason is that there was no growth in the character. I played the first gay character on TV and there was nothing more left to do. I am now open to take up another role on TV."

Dakssh will last shoot till 25th of Jan.

awww - he will be missed, sorely.

But good luck to you in all your future projects. You were part of a great team, and hopefully you'll find another great one and continue to make waves in the TV industry.

Too bad. This is what happens when you drag things too much. Ultimately you don't get a satisfactory ending.

BTW, why do they keep saying he's the first gay character on Indian television? That's just not true. He's not the first or even second or third gay character. There have been several before him. Probably Deven Bhojani's Petha on the 90s Zee soap Tara was the first one.

It would be more accurate to say Maryada had the first major storyline involving a gay couple that was actually treated seriously (Rishta.com also had a gay character that was treated seriously but it was just one of its episodic stories whereas here it has been a long running storyline plus Rishta did not have a couple, just the one guy).
