The premise of the film is the story of a family who go to Goa for a vacation, where the elder daughter of the family discovers a new dawn of light in her life. Though the film was not able to stay afloat for long in the box office, we talk to the director more about it. Excerpts from the Interview: How do you react to the fact that the film has not gone too far in the box office? Well you see I'm not a veteran filmmaker. But I'm trying to make films and I'm just two films old. I've a long way to go. I'm just 32. Truly I'm still learning making films and I've just begun. There is always scope of betterment. I prefer making films that I like and the essential part is the novelness factor in all the films I make. Here I tell the story of an ordinary girl who realizes that there are lots of extraordinary things in her that she has never discovered before. It's the coming-of-age story and I'm happy about the way it has shaped up. What according to you was the USP of the film?
Don't you think that any other commercial actress other than newcomer Onjolee Nair would have been right for the film? My cousin sister Smiley was first signed for the film. But I had to drop her because I wanted a slim girl for the role of a teenager here. She also needed to have some dancing background as the film revolves around dance for the most part. Ongelee Nair is a dance teacher and we didn't needed long to groom her with some fine touches. She was just apt for the role. Is it true that Mahesh Bhatt ghost directs your films? He is a great director and filmmaker and everybody knows that. He has been constantly there with me since I was an actress. And even today he is the guiding factor in my life. But for this film, he was there just to supervise my performance and was in Goa for only two days. I am glad that he was happy with my work. I've always got a very good support from my family and unit members. Why did you choose Goa as the venue of the film? Goa is a very special place for me. I got married here and have spent the most wonderful moments of my life with my husband at Madgaon Beach. Goa happens to be my favorite place. My two favorite films 'Kabhi Na Kabhi' and 'Chor Aur Chand' were shot in Goa. I don't know about others. But for me thinks have been very smooth from the start itself. There has been no hesitations or fear in regard of my work. My artists have been thorough professionals and have co-operated with me all the way. Do you think that medium budget helps the film to cover better? I make films within an average budget and I like it that way. My films are made within the budget of Rs 30 to 35 million. But I make it a point to give it a look of Rs 60 to 70 million. Yes there is better coverage here other than to make a film with Rs 100 to 200 million. There is too much risk involved in that. |
