Okay so I watched it and well I agree with Aliza on the analysis. I was so excited for this show ever since I heard that Haissam was doing a drama with both Fawad and Imran but the first episode was very meh-ish. My two reasons for watching this show had 1 scene each of about 1-2 minutes max. Did I find it funny? No not really. I've seen better comedy in Pakistani dramas. I suppose I should have expected a lot more focus on the girls since it is Akbari Asghari and I believe the whole drama is about the father's struggle to make his daughters more Pakistani.
As Aliza mentioned quite a lot of the scenes seemed like fillers and I did not wish to see Asma Abbas rant on about how miserable her life is and then the next second show off to her snobby friend. Surprisingly, while I thought, I wouldn't like Humaima's character much, my favorite moments from the show came from her. One when she told Sanam that their dad's being racist for being against non-Pakistanis. Second, when she told her dad that she also has a janamaz in her room but that doesn't mean she prays.
The storyline has become very clear: dad moves back home and gets his daughters married to Akbar and Asghar. The crux of the drama is that it will be marriages of opposing personalities. The flirt will marry the seemingly dutiful daughter, while the religious Muslim will marry the rebel. However, there is a reason why I say seemingly, because like Aliza mentioned, I do believe Sanam's putting up an act. The way she was acting with her dad when she offered him breakfast seemed so artificial..I mean who goes on about how dutiful and obedient they are? Secondly, Humaima actually mentioned how she's not the one who puts up a facade, which to me seemed like a taunt to Sanam. I for one am all for Sanam being exposed as a fraud because it will definitely make the drama more interesting.
Overall, they need to speed up the track and just throw the couples together and please oh please show me some Imran-Fawad scenes. Haissam should know that people's complaint with Dastaan was very little Fawad-Sanam and if he keeps this up then we might just get a lot of oldies talking continuously, the daughters going about their own business and very little of the guys. The next episode's preview doesn't seem very promising either and I think we might have to wait till episode 3 till we see them back in Pakistan? I do hope I'm wrong though.
Finally this drama is a very Punjabi adaptation. If it were not for Imran Abbas, I don't even think we'd get to hear much Urdu.
P.S. I chose to ignore their representation of the way Pakistanis live in the West...let's just say I had a few issues.
