The DOTW for this time is quite simple as can be judged from the title. Last time I made a topic discussing the realism and escapism in Pakistani dramas but one thing that I have observed is that the romance quotient is usually pretty low in these dramas. Furthermore, whatever is there is quite subtle and implicit. Nonetheless, would you guys prefer to see more romance in dramas, and if so then would you prefer the same mellowed type or something maybe more loud, explicit, and passionate? Or maybe the current romance quotient fits well given the drama themes, their story and most importantly: the audience. I feel that one of the main reasons why we don't see so much romance is because of our culture and possibly religion. And then of course, another big reason is that Pakistani dramas really aren't made keeping romance in mind....the bigger picture is always the story (something that I'm VERY happy about). I do think that a lot of the younger audience would appreciate more romance as lately a show like Dastaan was appreciated by these youngsters for its romantic relationship between Hassan and Bano. I'm not saying that the drama was appreciated because of that but rather I feel that the romance was one of its major attractions.

Anyways, that's enough of my rant on that, but please do share your thoughts on this, and whether or not you'd like to see more romance.

I think its perfect the way it is. Like u said its about the audience, these are dramas the whole family (atleast the ladies of the family) watches together. If they add explicit romantic scenes, it is surely gonna turn off the elders ... the whole "family drama" essence wouldn't exist then. The makers are doing a good job sticking to the storyline, and adding scenes here and there only if required. Like in Daam. Without any proper romantic scene, they managed to show Zara-Junaid's love blooming so beautifully. Credit given to the makers to show it in such a subtle manner and yet convey their point.
And this is very realistic as well. I would again reference Daam ... the way Junaid proposed Zaara. SO real...no one goes on their knees to propose (not in my world atleast). Adding more OTT romantic scenes would just be...unreal. I think with Dastaan, the reason Hasan-Bano's lovestory didn't click to me (Im sure Im the odd one out) was because considering the setting (1940s), their lovestory was a bit OTT.

Anywayz very long post ... I should stop now. Nice topic tho Seert ! (And congo on becoming a CC! :D)

sorry for taking my time in editing this post.. nyway here are my views on this topic

i think the romance which is shown currently in Paki serials is good enough & is shown in a very subtle way.. here actors dont go shirtless in each episode & thank God no duppata waala scenes & the girl falling & the guy uthao-ing him and eye locking for 10 mins..

The romance shown in our serial is expressed beautifully . The credit goes to the actors, directors & a special mention of the dialogue writers.. the dialogues are straight out of life that any one can identify with those..

Hmm same I do think it's quite good the way it is, and honestly our dramas aren't made for romance and cheesy romantic lines...it's all about the story and sometimes romance is part of it but never the be all and end all. Plus I really do prefer subtlety over loud dialogues and gestures as in reality, romance isn't like that...at least not in Pakistan, so these drams are doing a good job representing the reality.

Daam is indeed a great example of subtle romance...I'm still somewhere in the middle but the romantic relationship between Zara and Junaid is quite realistic and yet still very quaint and cute. The realism of the proposal scene is what makes it all the more good. In terms of Dastaan though, yes you're right. I did find its romance quotient much higher than the other shows but once again I do think that the romance didn't encompass the whole drama. And those Hassan Bano scenes ended sometime before the 7th episode. Hassan Bano scenes before partition were quite cute and romantic, and yes they were a bit unrealistic considering those times or maybe not? Whatever the case maybe, I did notice that many fans wanted those scenes...which is what made me think of this topic. Heck Fawad and Sanam became favorites as a couple and actors because of Dastaan, and mostly those scenes IMO. So then don't you think the audience, at least the younger crowd, wants such romance?

Thanks Binu and lol don't worry about the length...I'm not one to be complaining about long essays ;p

Nice topic.

I watched Dastaan after had seen SOOOO many topics abt Dastaan in this forum. I personally think tht the romance was PERFECTLY shown in tht serial, by tht i mean over nahi tha. Tht is wht i felt abt Hassan and Bano scenes, their scenes cud be seen W*H family. But coming to Hassan and Rabia, those were scenes i wud nvr watch W*H my family, it's not coz im against the couple, it was the way the scenes were shown. But if i look it overall i prefer the romance in Dastaan much more than wht is being shown lately in paki serials (Talking abt serials like "meri an suni kahaani" "Saiqa"). And u mentioned tht romance was a major attraction in Dastaan, which i completely agree on. Today romance is a major attraction in serials, i think it's fine to show romance in paki serials like they showed the couple Hassan and Bano, but no i don't want more than tht.

Oh yay, I'm glad all those many topics (we have quite a few Dastaan fans here I suppose) caused you to see the drama...it's one drama that I have really come to appreciate for many reasons but yes the romance does get to me as well.
Hmm I agree that it wasn't too OTT but like Binu said I don't think it was typical of that time...I also think Hassan and Rabia scenes weren't that bad. I mean I know he held her hand, and then there was that typical girl falling in guy's arm bit but it wasn't really much. I think with Hassan and Bano it was more of a flirty vibe and the romantic undertones whereas with Hassan and Rabia, I suppose it was a bit more blatant.

Thanks for sharing your views and hope to see you around more often.

Nice topic seert =)
I think its great the way it is..I wouldnt want to see much more than what they're already showing these days. Because like you said its more about the story..and it should stay that way. Story is what attracts the audience of all ages...and you're right that the younger audience is attracted to more romantic serials as in Dastaan's case..so yeah they should include more romance but not go overboard with it. And I agree with pakindmuziq that the kind of romance shown in Dastaan was perfect for me. I would want to see more of that kind but not more than that.

I think its great the way it is right now! Romance is just an accessory in the show, its the story, concept and characterization that keep the interest of the audiences. Which i think has been done greatly by our industry. The range of concepts they have convered just by using strong characters and storyline have made the shows a hit.

btw nice topic.

I think if a little romance is edited then there won't be any problem it should be like you can feel the love between the main lead and sweet ,cute and light hearted romance

Example:the scene shown in Lamha Lamha zindagi when Daanish grabs Ayesha's hand that scene was cute

and the scene in my dp of Ambreen and Saad of Shere dil kay darwazay is also a perfect example
