MUMBAI: Mandira Bedi has quit as host of the popular game show "Deal Ya No Deal 2" on Sony TV citing prior commitments. "In series three of 'Deal Ya No Deal' some new elements are being introduced. This requires extra time for rehearsals and due to my prior commitments to cricket I would be unable to devote the required time to the show," said Mandira in a press release. Series three of the game show begins April 28 at 8 p.m. with a new look and new host. It will be telecast once a week on Fridays. Host of the first series actor R. Madhavan also left on grounds of time constraints. |

Celebs kick-start Heart Beat
Producer Siddhartha Basu will have a bevy of famous personalities on his show

Ajay Jadeja, Isha Koppiker, Vinod Kambli, Ronit Roy, Pooja Bedi, Varun Bandola ,Mandira Bedi… famous names from various walks of life will be seen vying for prizes on the forthcoming show Heart Beat. The show will start from May 1.
The show purports to be different from the rest. "It is actually based on the concept of the heartbeat," says Star's Deepak Sehgal. "Instead of timing the contestants by the clock they'll be timed by every heartbeat. This will give the quiz an exciting never-before edge. Plus, the phone lines and the Internet will be available to contestants throughout, so they can call up for help any time."
"The most interesting feature of Heart Beat is that it will have no host. Just the contestant holding fort in an isolated chamber where all we'll hear is his or her heartbeat. The time that each contestant will get to answer will depend entirely on the heartbeat. So if you're a nervous sort and prone to palpitations your time will be relatively limited," says producer Siddhartha Basu.
The show will feature only celebrities to begin with. But it will extend it's reach to the common people later. "It all depends on which way the show goes," says the producer.

| Studio number five in Mumbai's Film City is witnessing a flurry of activity. Gone are the bright ambers and golds, and gone too is vivacious hostess Mandira Bedi. Sony's newly-gone-weekly game show Deal Ya No Deal will be hosted by Rajeev Khandelwal from 28 April. And Film City is turning all sleek and black to suit the revamped image of the Miditech produced show.
Carpenters are busy at work on the sets, which has a much larger look than the earlier hosted by Mandira, and initially by R Madhavan. The USP of the set is a huge grey vault, through which Rajeev will emerge into a lighted corridor that leads into the main set. None of Mandira's chirpy demeanour will be apparent here. Rajeev's entry into the sets will be accompanied by 26 well known models who will wield the all important briefcases containing amounts ranging from 25 paise to 10 million rupees. On Tuesday, executives from Endemol, which owns the original format, were present on the set, going over the finishing touches to the revamp. The host's look matches the set. A slimmer, trimmer Rajeev, back after a hiatus from television, will don sleek dark suits and will definitely not be as garrulous as Mandira was in the earlier edition. The makers would prefer him to 'be himself' instead, using those brooding soulful eyes to his advantage as he steers participants from one level of avarice to another. A team has been working with Rajeev for the last 10 days, instructing him in the nuances of the show, which he considers one of the biggest challenges in his acting career thus far. Rajeev will soon also be seen in Tony and Deeya Singh's new show Left, Right, Left on Sab TV, in which he plays an armyman, a role he chose over many other offers, after much deliberation. | Rajeev Khandelwal to anchor Deal Ya No Deal |
| It's no deal for Mandira Bedi. The actress-turnedhost has opted out of Sony TV's Deal Ya No Deal (DYND) after replacing actor R. Madhavan in January this year. "I am not quitting. Instead, it's a mutual decision between me and Sony TV," she says. In fact, Bedi has already shot her last episode for the show, which is also undergoing changes. "It now moves from a daily to a weekly slot. Besides, the entire look, feel and grandeur of the game show will be different," maintains Anupama Mandloi, vice-president (programming), Sony India. While Bedi has already shot her last episode, viewers will continue to see her till April end. "It's the best way to continue our association. And since she has been there done that, we decided to build up the excitement with her as the host," adds Mandloi. Needless to say, Mandira, too, is excited about her new job. "The cricket season is here. I couldn't have asked for anything better," she exclaims. After her 2004 stint, Mandira will again present Extraaa Innings for the forthcoming cricket series. The small screen hunk Rajeev Khandelwal of Kahiin To Hoga fame will soon step in Mandira's shoes to host DYND. "I am not replacing Mandira as it's a completely new season with a fresh format," says Rajeev adding that TV hosting is an alien territory for him. "But I am confident about it since I am being extensively trained for it," he adds. Actor R. Madhavan had left the show early this year. |
