Ok....i asked Samira Fazal on facebook (writer of Dastaan serial) exactly the same thing tht u could have shown bano...doing some social work for the country,,it would have given hope... I am copy pasting here, my post and her reply:

Samira Ji... I just want you to explain clearly, what message u wanted to convey byshowing Bano in mental assylum, and hassan and rabia giving false hopes
to her? And i am not all upset tht Bano and hassan didnt end uptogether.. I am not bothered abt tht, bcoz i dont think Hassan deservedbano.....I just want to understand the message o...f the last sceneclearly....Wouldnt it have been better, if somehow u showed tht Banoended up doing some social work or anything for the country?... YeahKaleem was a villain, but it would have been good, if he wasnt shownsuch, and bano spent her life, trying to bring some change in thecountry.... It would have given some hope, tht yes, there are some badppl but there are some good people also, and we should try to bring change individually and collectively

Samira Fazal:) to choose the rt end of this serial was a the most difficult part for me.. yes i thought of the end that you suggested.. but somehow it didnt seem rt. i wanted to shake our ppl to the very core. i didnt want them to sleep peacefully after watching this serial.. i wanted them to think and imagine a character whom they adored is still alive and praying for them.. i wanted them to imagine her whenever they make an irresponsible decision . i know its not possible and too far fetched but atleast i can try. bano was not an ordinary soul she gave up so much for this country could she remain sane? i dont think so .. she had to have her peace of mind. i wanted her to be contented.. agar wo hosh main hoti bhi to 60 years main pagal ho jati .. let her be happy in her false world like many of us are...

First of all thanks a ton for sharing this Farah:)
And i think Samira's explanation makes sense but still we cant deny that its always better to face reality than live in an dellusional world?
Well im glad that atleast now we know what exactly she wanted to portray:)

Thank you for posting this Farah and I actually did see that post on her FB wall as well. My response is the same as before: wouldn't it have been better to show Bano doing something constructive that would show her progression as well as her nation's progression? I understand Samira wanted to shake the people up but to me it seems like Bano never got over her challenges. She was a protagonist but never a hero/heroine who overcame their problems and emerged as the winner. She remains in her delusional world wherein Pakistan is still a utopia and she still hasn't come to terms with reality. In my opinion, she's stagnant and as I have said before, she mirrors Pakistan hence her stagnation and opposition to reality shows how Pakistan is stuck.
Maybe Samira, Razia and Haissam's vision was something else but I thought that Bano was supposed to be a parallel for Pakistan and such an ending only shows Pakistan's sad state. If the drama was supposed to motivate then I think the ending failed. Even still, I'd have preferred Bano dying like she did in the novel. I think that would have been a more apt ending to this whole saga aka 'dastaan'.
