When the round started, the concept of "risk taking" took a whole new meaning, lets see that if this pays off 😈...but whatever be the reaction, I loved shankar's singing in this track to the fullest.
But anyways, I wanted to select something different again for SM, and this track was something that came, went and sank without a trace. Composed by shankar-ehsaan-loy themselves, in 1999, this track is something that does sound refreshing even today as it was 11 years ago. Questionable, yes...but listen to it, you will be pleasantly surprised.
The start is terrific, the beats are good, if simple, and not over the top. Again, back to basics approach. The starting verse and changing of voice-low-high-low-high, reeks of quality. His trademark energetic singing is evident from the start and gains momentum the minute alka yagnik steps in with her trademark "close to the mike" voice. She too sounds superb and full of energy and enthusiasm. Yes, you get to listen a youthful side of her. The chorus too adds superb spice to this track.
The middle portions do tend to get sloppy, yes but again the overall mood and singing depicted-dance-disguises those minor errors very well. The end background music then lifts this track before udit nayaran comes in and sings his one line. The trio had never sounded so superb before that time.
The tune, too is perfectly synchronised with all the vocals and is full of energy, OK the length, again could have been trimmed but still this cannot be called a "boring" track...and surely the dance quotient that this track wants to portray is kept intact. The tempo, too is very upbeat and full of variations, a high point required for a track of this genre.
Sad that it was picturised poorly and it was from a film that sank without a trace in 1999 and made urmila's worst year of her career with a dubious distinction of 6 consecutive flops.
No over the top lyrics, just good foot tapping singing and music without too much quirkiness.
