Deadly offer for Chunky Pandey

Aug 19, 2009

Who doesn't want Bollywood stars to grace their family functions to earn a little more hype than the others in their social circuit. It's an oft-repeated practice that people get stars to dance at shaadis, attend private functions or inaugurate their showrooms. However, at times, their need to get the added limelight tends to border on the extreme. And that's just what actor Chunky Pandey witnessed when he was called by a family to attend a funeral of their late family member.

Chunky reveals that recently he was caught aghast when the family of a late thirty-something scion called him asking whether he could attend the dead man's funeral. They offered him Rs. 5 Lac as his remuneration for the work. However, what took him by a rude shock was that the family wanted him to be present there as the deceased had left substantial debts behind him and they wanted to fool the creditors by getting a star in the funeral and saying that he wanted to make a film which eventually couldn't happen.

Talking more about the deadly offer, Chunky says that his wife runs an event management company hence they keep getting offers requesting them to attend their functions. However, this one was too crude a thing that he would ever want to do. He says that they wanted him to play a rudaali at the funeral so that they could convince the creditors that they were putting together a film with some actors including him.

Even though Chunky refused to do any such thing, he says that the family was so persistent that he had to eventually arrange for another actor who could attend their funeral. He recalls what exactly happened at the crematorium and says that the other actor who had readily agreed to accept the offer finding five lacs a good amount for a little rona dhona eventually had to go through an ordeal there. Chunky chuckles while saying that the actor had to go through intense questioning by the creditors as they didn't spare him as well.

Ask him why he turned down the offer which was ideally meant for him and Chunky says that he is here to act in movies and not in funerals.
