This was my very first Shot on TaAnu and special too as wrote in Celebration of Completion of 100 Epsiodes🥳, so very close to my heart😃.
Too Late
After adjusting the dupatta on her head before glancing at herself for the last time in the mirror, Taani banerjee was astray in her own world, many thoughts running through her mind, her stomach felt as if it was in tight knots. Her life would change after today; no more would she be Taani Banerjee but a girl soon going to turn into a woman. She has to look the perfect bride at least in outer complexion but perhaps the first bride who wasn't happy on her wedding day, still in turmoil but now she had to and she would.
Taani was a simple girl whose dreams were always as simple as her, never she dreamt of big things in life but just marrying the one she always loved.
Small creaking of the door brought her back to the world and Shareen peeped in "Taani..." not having the courage to complete further.
"Hmm Sharu" she turned to address her friend when her eyes fell on the person standing in the dark, she really didn't need to descry the person as she understood who it could be, "Pratham..." absentmindedly the name came out of her mouth.
And there he came in under the wall lamp; "You...?" lump formed in her throat.
He was the same person who was there with her from their college days, in all her thick & thins upholding her, they were together for like 4 years and Taani didn't understand how that man captivated her heart and made her wanting to be claimed by him.
But the love she experienced was something Pratham never felt for her and she understood that little later after her love not being reciprocated by him.
The memoir was still so brisk in their minds, his birthday night when they were on the cliff, just two of them cutting his birthday cake
"Taani, How could you always manage to make my birthday every year so doozie"
he asked facetiously
But she didn't hear him
Finally today was the day, she would open herself, already he knew her in and out but one thing that was hidden deep inside in her heart, finally she would vent that out today
"Pratham, meri shaadi ki baatein ho rahi hain" she muffled
"Now?, How?, Why? Who?" he was unable to frame his sentences
"Nothing has decided, only talks are going around" she replied uncertainly
"But you always wanted that, so why traces of this worry" he frowned
"But with the one whom I always loved and that one was you Pratham" she finally pushed herself and blurted what was in her heart from so long
"What...?" he scowled
And those looks gave her the inkling about everything
"You were always my best friend Taani" he grimaced
"I had never thought you in that way, you are JUST my BEST FRIEND" saying that he went away
Went for never to come back, that night his denial didn't hurt her as much as his shoving off, leaving her there all alone, that night he didn't only broke her heart but killed one beating heart and their friendship.
The gruelling nightmare again moistened her eyes, seeing him after one year.
He was still the same just had become more muscular and hair had gotten bit longer, he was a boy then and a man now. And the convulsion on his face didn't go unnoticed by her.
"What are you doing here?" Taani enquired
"I am sorry Taani" finally he bursted out
"For what, Pratham?" Taani shrugged off
"For everything, for every pain that I filled your life with" he regretted
"You are under false pretences, you never did anything wrong, It was me who jeopardized our bond" she shrugged, moving away from him
"I am under false pretences or you are pretending just too much"
"Taani..." his mouth went dry
He hurt her but it was never intended, he took little longer time to understand that the friendship they shared had blossomed into love but it was he who mistook it as friendship
"Today is my wedding" she cut in
"Would you be able to be happy?" he darted
Not knowing further what to say she just threw her arm around him
"I loved you always and always will" she wailed on his blazer

"But now it's too late" she eased herself when Shareen peeped in, came to take her to her destiny
"I have to and I will" she answered his two unspoken quests
"Panditiji bula rahe hain, We have to go" Shareen murmured and they slowly paced towards the man, to whom taani is going to belong within few hours.
Anurag Ganguly, her childhood friend Anurag Ganguly who was sent abroad for better education.
He was the first man to leave her but of course that was not what he wanted but he just had to and the void that was created by Anurag's departure was filled by Pratham though it took many years for Taani to see another person in front of Anurag but finally Pratham made his way.
Standing in one corner Taani was continuously bewailing, today Anurag was leaving and except wailing she could not do anything. She saw him packing his stuffs and tried to shove off quietly but well he was quicker than her.
"Where are you going?" Anurag questioned though fully knowing well how excruciating it was getting for her.
Quietly wiping her tears he pleaded "Agar tu aise royegi toh mera kya hoga, main toh sabse dur jaa raha hoon"
"Tu kyun jaa raha hain Onu, mat jaa, main tere bina kaise rahungi" finally she broke down.
"You Know I have not learnt living without you then why onu, why Anurag" she was bemoaning knowing that her futile attempts not going to help her.
"Tu ro kyun rahi hain, I promise I will come back, I will return just for you, sirf Tere Liye Taani"
he sealed his promise with a small peck on her cheeks.
And finally after years Anurag returned to his place, his home in between his own people yet so isolated from them, as not only he lost his years in different world but also his childhood best friend, he understood through their chats, they had, when he was there that his taani has changed but he never complained as she was changed for good but after returning what he saw was something too rigorous for him.
His vibrant and zealous Taani had become so unlively, so abstract and his trifling endeavour finally made her release the torrent of pain and unshed tears.
"Woh chala gaya onu, woh bhi chala gaya" she bewailed on his chest
And now he understood what snatched away his Taani from him
"He deosn't love me, he had never loved me" she whimpered
All the pain that shrivelled her into the shell was finally out, she was pouring it out into arms of her Anurag who would shield her from all infliction but the worst part was he could not do anything to lessen her pain, he was just too supine at the moment.
And it took whole 1 year for Anurag to bring back his taani back though he again made her have faith in people, made her same vivacious Taani, Anurag's Taani but still there was a guilt hidden deep inside of leaving her alone in this cruel world and not being there when she needed him the most.
Although Anurag filled the scant of friend in Taani's life as she got her childhood mate back but love.
And after seeing her Taani getting back he proposed her, it was not that he wanted all those things to go around her again but it was a moment in which he just did, listening to his heart.
"I love You Taani" he confessed on their dinner date
"Would you like to spend your whole life with me" those were the only words he could uttered
she was numb, words not coming out.
It was not like he did something which was so exotic, he kept it simple but certainly the thing she always wanted to hear but from Pratham.
She was at loss of words and reactions, she just embraced him tight saying YES in their own language though she knew the way she loved Pratham she could never love anyone but also the way Anurag love her noother can ever love her.
Taani was going, going forever and he could do nothing, his eyes just glued to the figure moving down as if to memorize each and every feature of the girl he lost, out of his own insecurities about love.
And there she was seated on the mandap with her would be life partner by her side who was awed by the beauty of the girl who was beside him who was going to be his.
And soon the scenario in front became intolerable for Pratham as he saw priest giving Taani's hand in Anurag's and they going around the sacred fire, starting a new relation between them which could have been between Taani and Pratham rather than Taani and Anurag.
Throughout, her eyes were in search of the man she loved and finally on spotting him in one corner fighting with the whirlpool of emotions, her heart contracts but now she couldn't do anything it was T-O-O L-A-T-E.
TOO LATE to go back and start everything from where it was finished once.
Two lonesome tears escaped from his eyes seeing Anurag filling Taani's parting with vermillion and clasping the mangalsutra around her neck, finally making her his wife in every way.
Anurag & Taani bent down to take blessings when Pratham left, he was gone and this time never to come back and how could he ever now.
Now his Taani had already become Taani Anurag Ganguly who would love Anurag but never how she had loved Pratham but being showered with Anurag's love which Pratham couldn't have ever.
