I really dont understand this ghoonghat pratha..
Reason 1: They say its to respect elders.. thn y this imposing only on females.. y not males..
Reason 2: For males headwear was a thing of pride.. and for women it was a thing of modesty.. but times have changed.. males no longer wear headwears thy y women r still made to show their modesty..
Reason 3: To protect ur hair, head, face from damage!!!!.. which is i believe was a basic necessity in rural areas.. long working hours in sun, rain and dusty wind.. Pallu was the convinient method to save ur face.. or hide..
I have visited many ancient temples and have never seen any goddess or any female sculpture having neck long ghoonghat or even to the head.. instead they were even more bold... nothing is mentioned even in ancient hindu literatures abt ghoonghat being a conpulsory custom for females.. so this custom was adopted later on.. i believe with influence of many other religions and cultures invading india.. the discrimination betn men and women became more wider with such ridiculous customs rooting in their traditions...
Thankfully my inlaws dont have tradition of ghunghat... mainly coz my sect is Vaishnav panth and it doesnt have this ghunghat pratha.. even infront of God bcoz we pray bal gopal.. so thankfully our culture doesnt have this ghunghat pratha.. i even forgot to put palav on my wedding day..😆.. i still regret it.. coz I luved it.. i cudnt believe in all hustle bustle v actually forgot to put the palav.. I had to put it after pics of my hairstyle were done.. and i simply forgot!😆
but things have changed.. men have changed.. thn y not women...
you know every time i see Balika Vadhu.. it irks me most to see those beendnis standing like they have been given a punishment when the men of the house and dadisa convieniently sit and relax on their comfortable couch!!
respecting is other thing and to consider ones own bahu as child is other thing.. if in-laws can get tht right.. women wud have a better stand in india... but alas.. its women herself.. the mother in law herself or the sister-in-law herself or dadisa types tht propagate these evil customs.. i feel 🤢 every time i see Pratigya's mother in law.. if such women still exist in Indian Society and women in india still have long way to go for their betterment...
another interesting topic of debate is y females cant go to temple during periods.. i have tried hard to find the answer... but still havent.. so bound by this ageold tradition, i still follow it even after giving 1000s of logical explanations tht i shudnt.. coz may b i respect God.. and also coz i havent got the answer if it existed in old hindu culture and if yes, thn ther has to a gud reason behind it like most of our age old vedic customs ... now the question that concerns me is.. i dunno wat i wud tell if i have a daughter...😆
