My Dear, Darling Nynu π€π€π€
Extremely late, I know; but here I am, with my guesses (such as they are) π for Chapter 1.
I guess one of the most difficult things to seamlessly write a series of brief, but comprehensive and cogent snapshots spanning 20 years in time, and across Geographies as diverse as Kolkata and Lagos.
I am very glad indeed that you decided to stick to your original plan of writing the chapter without mentioning the names, only the dates and events. It heightened the sharpness and 'who is this' guessing game of the chapter. I had a great deal of fun sifting through each line again and again, searching for the clues I am sure you have secreted between the lines. π
And I am now very happy that I decided not to use the names - so you did have fun though I did leave quite a few of the readers confused.ππ Every date has a significance - some because they are the birthdays and some because the event is significant. Did you get the significance of one specific birth date (not the year - timeline would be impossible)
Apart from Sunny and Swara, I can't say I am sure about any of the other characters, not with a 100% certainty anyway, as of the end of Chap 1. πSunny boy was a sort of last minute inclusion and Swara was the most significant π
A series of quick impressions which struck me:
1) Swara abandoned by her mother?---the events of the party where the traumatized cried were heard, were roughly 9 months before the date the baby was left at the temple sanctum. Dida found and raised Swara...what happened to her birth mother after that? Am I right in presuming that she had been molested at that event 9 months prior; and if so who was that man who committed this crime? Is he the same as the man who is responsible for that other lady's death in 1992; the lady whose brother swears revenge?Swara abandoned by her birth mother - yes. Dida found and raised her - yes. The lady whose brother swears revenge, he is the one who takes over Swara - yes. Now comes her parentage - that is not going to be revealed now - you will learn it along with her. π
2) The brother of the lady who dies, I presume he is the man who meets Dida and takes Swara with him and raises her. The lady who decides to stand by his side, to be a pillar of support to him; is I presume the woman who gets very attached to Swara, who Swara calls 'Maasi'. The man is raising Swara with kindness but no real paternal love; he seems to want to use her as an instrument, a finely honed weapon in his plan for vendetta.Right again, that is what he intended, but somewhere he grows to love her (you have already read chapter 2 so no need for any suspense)
3) So Kalari is the martial art Swara is trained in. π I was wondering in the prologue, which one it could be. Your description of the Asaan, and the way he read Swara's emotional state, were so profound. It was so heartrending to read about the emotional shell the young girl had retreated into, not having been given the unconditional adoration, the hugs and cuddles which kids are generally lavished with in loving families. The absence of that pure love can truly leave one with deep rooted emotional scars...I wanted her to learn that as it is an Indian art and is purported to have been carried by the Buddhist monks to China and Japan where it gave rise to kung fu / karate and other forms (not sure how authentic but did sound nice)There are studies that prove that children who are deprived of that hugs and cuddles do grow up into individuals who hate to be touched - it could lead to Fear of Intimacy Disorder or "avoidant attachments" This should explain the prologue - why Swara is uncomfortable with being touched.
4) Who was the well dressed lady who occasionally visited Dida and Swara earlier, before this man took Swara away, I wonder...Swara's birth mother?
That is the answer Swara has been searching for all her life - you will have to wait till she learns of it.
5) The girl who is born to a meek mother whose health has taken a battering during the high risk pregnancy; whose husband apparently loves her but is still a douchebag enough to think that a daughter is somehow unwelcome and disappointing...π‘. Is this Ragini? Or Kavita/ Kavya? This is the man who later on becomes an alcoholic, I presume, making his daughter shiver with dread on her birthdays, hoping that she would be completely forgotten. π€’ Who is the friend who takes her out on her 10th birthday? Would this friend also figure prominently in the tale?
This girl is Ragini - I got so tired of every fic having her as a pampered girl, I made her the unwanted one here. And the friend is Kavita- she will figure prominently, hopefully in a nice way (this is the one that leaves me nervous)
6) The 'Princess' born to a wealthy family on Dhanteras, who is lavished with adoration and care...Is this Ragini? She seems a very level headed, sorted child.
Sigh - almost everyone got it wrong - it is Uttaraπ
7) Sanskaar as an architect. π€ͺ You briefly introduced the profiles of his sister (Uttara) and his younger cousin who idolizes him (Lucky), and the family who does not really understand his pursuit of his dreams, the career of his choice. (DP/AP dominating RP/Sujju again I guess...). His best friend who understands him so very well---Kavita? Or Ragini?Right on all counts - and his friend - that is Kavitaπ
8) Who is the old man who lay dying? Thinking over the actions of his family, some of which he vehemently disapproved of and felt bad about? And who was the only person he could trust who entered the room and with whom he held a hushed confabulation of sorts...That would unfold as the story progresses (BTW - you are the only one who did catch this event - I left everyone so confused that most gave up once the girls could not be identifiedππ)
So many questions! π You are one tantalizing tale spinner. Will be back for my take on Chappie 2, yet to give it a careful read.Tantalising is much better than being labelled a sadist, which is what most must be thinking of meπππ
Loads of Love and Anticipation,

What a masterclass Chapter 2 was...you took me on a visual journey through Mihir Bhawan, Kalpana, Aastha and ended in the Suote of the Hyatt Regency---the setting of each of the 3 homes described with such maginificent and spellbinding detail. I could actually see the decor, the rooms, the furniture, the chandelier. π³ π Superb, just superb.
And I am quiteπ³βΊοΈπ³βΊοΈπ³βΊοΈI also got to build on a few of the hints you'd thrown in the earlier chapters, and one thing struck me while speaking of the name of the residences----The Princess was born in the same home where the party had happened in 1991, and a dark event that crushed the soul and spirit of an unfortunate victim had taken place...
And considering that Mihir Bhawan is the residence of the Maheshwaris, I guess its obvious now that Uttara is the 'Princess'. π Oops, I hadn't seen that coming, though the hints were obvious in terms of being the first daughter in 3 generations. π
That is fine, somehow every one presumed Ragini and princess are synonymous - and yes it the the same house where that event happened in 1991 which was also Kavita's first birthday. So its Kavita who had got kidnapped at the end of Chapter 1----though not by Harshavardhan Shah, though he has sworn revenge on his former friends.Yes, it is Kavita who got kidnapped and no Harsha is no way connected, his revenge is to destroy their wealth and happiness, and he would never stoop so low. Afterall, even though Swaha is a stark reminder of what happened he has grown to love her as a daughter. Such a personality - no way.
The guy who was 'honey trapped' so to speak π, though not precisely----a spiked drink used by a canny lady adept at disguising herself, to steal data---Adarsh Maheshwari. (I struck out there as well, you know...I thought it might have been Lucky π π). An old prejudice, that one---whenever I read of anybody SwaSan related displaying a lack of wits and a lamentable tendency to get fooled, I think of Lucky. π
That was another serial effect - any bumbling male obviously makes us think it is Laksh - but then in 2010 - he would be quite young to be holding a responsible position possessing "stealable" dataπI loved the way you had sketched each and every character here---no prizes for guessing that my favorite was the resolute, focused, sharp witted and conscientious Sanskaar...That bit of DP thinking he could have been named after the Sun God or the Fire God was so deft. π π
How could I resist, after all Sanskaar is always the fire element for meπ³
Shekar Gadodia π‘ π‘ π€’ Men like him do not deserve to be fathers. He can't even be called a father, I guess----he remains consigned in his role of sperm donor. π‘ Useless waste of space!
So Ragini's friend who was 4 years older to her was Kavita?
Shekar is a weak insipid character - who is unfit to be called a father (I simply distilled his characteristic from the serial - he might as well be portrayed as the disgusting useless person he is).
A very interesting web you have spun here Nynu----all the more fascinating since it is so divergent from canon. We have the Gadodias, the Roys and the Maheshwaris as family friends...and we have Harsh Shah nurturing Swaha (aka Swara π) as a 'secret weapon' to introduce into the Maheshwari empire and bring it crumbling down...
I wonder why he felt that Kavita's kidnapping would disturb his plans? Sanskaar not being a part of the family business at all, conspicuously distancing himself in fact; wonder how Harsh lined her and Sunny into his calculations? Such fascinating questions and possibilities!
Swaha / Swara would have been the moleπ he has been planning it for so many years and Kavita's kidnapping would not disrupt his plans completely, his chance to introduce Swaha would have to be delayed and he was not too happy with it. Sanskaar, Swaha and Harsha - that would be revealed as and when Swara starts to remember - Somewhere towards the middle (chapter 8/9)
I'm wondering now who kidnapped her; Kavita, at the end of Chapter 1, thought she had seen someone, and then feared that if she had indeed seen that person, then the chances of her escaping were slim? Is this the same man who committed that dastardly crime all those years ago?
No - but connected. Cannot say anything more for now.Swara (Swaha) resembling Harsh's sister Janaki---Is she Janaki's daughter after all? But then Harsh also thinks that there is no way there could be or should be such a resemblance...Janaki seems to have died within a week or so, of Swara (Swaha) being left at the temple sanctum by her biological mother...wonder if she was Janaki after all. But then Harsh would have come to know, surely?
Swaha / Swara herself is a little confused - but she knows what happened to Janaki (her Janaki maa as she thinks of her) so she is quite a courageous and understanding girl to accept the doubts regarding her parentage. I will let her and you discover (almost in the final chapters)
Moi confused. π But in a nice way...π Will keep me engrossed and absorbed as I try to solve the mysteries of the interconnected web now. π
Once again----kudos on a amazingly well written chapter which really brought the scenes to vivid life. π
I am happy that you are confused (see, me in full sadistic modeππ) I am hoping to keep you engrossed, by the simple solution of delegating the mystery to the background and focus on SwaSanπ, I have to twist the plot, right, how long do you think fate would keep quiet?Love
