Swaragini's Varun Kapoor aka Sanskar shares his views on World Mental Health Day

The actor who enacted the part of mentally challenged person for some part of the show feels showing love towards mental patients is very important

This year the theme of World Mental Health Day is dignity for mental health patients. Actor Varun Kapoor was seen as a mentally challenged person for a certain period of time on the telly drama, Swaragini. While he masqueraded as a mental patient on the show, the actor's views on mental patients are pretty serious in real life. He says, "All I can say is dignity is every individual's right whether he is afflicted by mental health issues or not. What I feel is if people can't do anything constructive for them; please don't make life difficult for them either. They too have a heart. It is just that they're unable to cope with situations or perhaps are victims of their circumstances. People who have such issues are more emotional than us but many of them are above average intelligence. I feel we need to reach out and show that little bit of affection that will help them get a grip on life."

Earlier seen as Danny on Saraswatichandra, Varun began his stint on Swaragini as Sanskar, who is mentally challenged. Unlike film actors who have the luxury of long workshops or prep time, TV stars have to learn on the sets only. He explains, "It was quite tough. I used to rehearse in advance. There is this aura around mentally disabled characters in shows but for actors it is very tough as we don't have dialogues in most cases. You only have to emote, which can be tough. Finally, when I had to play a normal guy I found it difficult to shake off the body language. Switching on and off is too taxing."

Thanks for sharing. What a sweetheart Varun is. Nothing less than I expect from him- but nice and considerate and entirely sensible views. Also, about the acting being challenging- yes, totally- playing mentally challenged one day and then having to go into hero mode another- superbly done by Varun!

Well said...Varun and you...

The flip flop of acting different shades of characters is really tough mentally and physically...Not having enough time to prep makes is really arduous

Mental health issues have so many shades that we can't judge anyone...Being judgmental is easy but do we do it with understanding or just taking the easy way out...??

Have you watched...Rainman...Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise movie...awesome acting by Mr.Hoffman...

this is such a practical line from him. that if you can't do any good then don't do anything bad either ... this can literally apply to every situation where we feel like giving our opinion bec freedom of speech and all that jazz. .. but rarely stop to think about others ... he is a sweetheart!
