Priyanka Bassi is a tough cookie

Natasha Coutinho/Hill Road Media

Priyanka Bassi is best known as the tough cadet Naina from Left Right Left. She surprised everyone by playing the stylish and girly character Samaira in Rang Badalti Odhani. But now she is back to her tough avatar as Kaya in Sony's Surya the Super Cop. Read on as Priyanka speaks about her new show.

Which aspect of Kaya appealed to you most?
I love the fact that Kaya is a strong and determined woman. However, there is a vulnerable side to her as well which she tries to hide from the world. That's the most interesting and intriguing trait of Kaya.

Do you relate to the character in anyway?
To tell you the truth, I do not relate to her at all. Kaya is serious all the time which is because of her troublesome past which will be revealed later in the show. I am completely opposite of her as I am
lively and bubbly and believe in enjoying life to the fullest.

You are back to playing a tough character after Naina from Left Right Left, so does it make you nostalgic?
Yes, Kaya is an extension of Naina (laughs). Naina was a cadet who has now progressed to being a cop, just her name is different. Playing Kaya really makes me nostalgic as I miss the Left Right Left days.

Which roles do you enjoy more the girly types like Sam of Rang Badalti Odhani or the tough Kaya of Surya the Super Cop?
My fans like to see me doing action but personally I would prefer to do something different after Surya the Super Cop. Something like Sam or something even livelier than that. There is this bubbly side to Priyanka's personality that has not been explored onscreen yet.

What is the best compliment that you received for this role?
A lot of my fans have complimented me about my eyes. The most recent one was – that I have lovely and fearless eyes. I totally loved that compliment.

How is the experience of working with a veteran like Harsh Chhaya?
He is a superb actor. I keep observing these particular subtle nuances that he adds to his character. It is great that I am getting to learn so much while shooting with him.

How do you unwind when you are not shooting?
I hardly get a chance to unwind as the shooting schedules are hectic. We are shooting round the clock and to top that most shoots are outdoors. So all I do is go home and sleep, that's the only way I
unwind (laughs).
