Everyone heads to Mumbai after passing out from KMC'

Satish-Kaushik-1

Satish Kaushik has returned to television after a long time with a supporting role. Kaushik, who plays the character of Delhi-based Jasbir Walia, father to the protagonist's character, says that he has incorporated traits of the people he observed during his stay in Naiwala gali in Karol Bagh and that Bollywood is full of people from DU's Kirori Mal College (KMC), his alma mater. Excerpts from the chat:

Dilli se zyaada toh Kirori Mal college ke log hain Mumbai mein I was associated with The Players, the dramatics society of DU's Kirori Mal College. All the big directors of Bollywood like Vijay Krishna Acharya and Ali Abbas Zafar are from my college. Delhi se zyada toh mujhe KMC ke log dikhte hain Mumbai mein. YRF mein toh KMC ke log bhare pade hain. It seems that everyone heads to Mumbai after passing out from KMC. I feel very proud seeing them.

KMC people don't want people from Mumbai to help them build the college audi I have heard that the college auditorium is in shambles. Bahut politics chal rahi hai wahan par. There should be a Frank Thakur Das memorial that should be made in Kirori Mal College. He was our dramatics teacher and one of the best political science teachers across DU and even India. We have tried our best to reach out to the college. Par woh Mumbai ke logon ko aane hi nahi dena chahte. It has been a long time since I went to my college.

I have drawn from the people karol bagh's Naiwala Gali my character I am playing a very obnoxious character in Sumit Sambhal Lega. He keeps eating the whole day and keeps passing gas. He says nasty things to his wife and his sons. But slowly, you realise that there are many layers to his personality and loves his sons. Naiwala Gali mein ek Chauhan sahab thay jo kabhi bhi kisi baat ko reject karna ho toh bolte thay, 'Kya rakha hai inn baaton mein, khurpa lele haathon mein'. I have incorporated this line in my dialogue. I have used typical lingo like 'chapadganju' since I know how people in Delhi talk.
Everyone, including my girlfriend, told me that I'm not good looking enough to become an actor I remember once I had won the awards for the best actor, best director and best producer at BITS Pilani. At that time, you get the feeling that you are the biggest star. That win was instrumental in making us feel that we could make it big in Bollywood. Shakal-wakal toh thi nahi. Theatre mein toh phir bhi chal jaata hai, par filmon mein kahaan? Log bolte thay, par kahaan sunte thay hum.

My girlfriend wanted to get married but I would tell her, 'I want to go to Mumbai and become an actor. I can't get married now.' She would say, 'Apni shakal toh dekh'. Main usse kehta tha, 'Tum mujhse shaadi karne ke liye pagal ho rahi ho aur aisa bolti ho?' Woh bolti thi ki shaadi ke liye toh theek hai, par acting ke liye nahi. After I became an actor, I met her in New York where I was shooting. She said, 'Satty, you have done a good job,' and she had tears in her eyes. She had a daughter who said, 'Mom, you were telling me about him. He is such a cute guy. You should have married him.'

Satish Kaushik: Which Mard has not felt this Dard? I'm no exception. Click Here! to know why he said this. Satish Kaushik: Anil Kapoor is responsible for many good things in my career. Read to know why he is so thankful to Anil Kapoor.
