Neeraj Chopra is set to return to action in the Lausanne Diamond League 2024 on Friday, August 23.

The 26-year-old Neeraj produced his season-best throw of 89.45m in the Paris Games.

The top six players who finished at the Paris Olympics have qualified for the Lausanne Diamond League 2024 but Arshad Nadeem withdrew his name.

Apart from Neeraj, the world no.1 Jakub Vadlejch and Paris Games bronze medalist Anderson Peters are top contenders in Lausanne.

Neeraj expressed his desire to reach 90m this season after settling for the silver in Paris and will be under the limelight at Stade Olympique de la Pontaise on Thursday evening.

Neeraj Chopra is scheduled to take the field in the javelin throw event on Friday, August 23, at 12:12 AM IST (Indian Standard Time).

It will be played at Stade Olympique de la Pontaise, Lausanne (Switzerland).

Indian fans can enjoy a live telecast of the men's javelin throw event at Lausanne Diamond League 2024 live on the Sports18 TV channel and online on the JioCinema application and website (free streaming).

What is Diamond League?

The Diamond League is athletics' premier series. The competition encompasses 15 of the sport's most prestigious meetings, with men and women competing in 16 of its primary disciplines.

Athletes compete for points at 14 series meetings from April to September, with the most successful in each discipline qualifying for the Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels (September 13th-14th).

At each of the 14 series meetings, athletes are awarded 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 or 1 points for ranking 1st to 8th respectively.

The top six in the field events, top eight for 100m-800m and the top ten for 1500m and long distance events will qualify for the Final.

In case of a tie, the athlete with the best legal performance of the season is ranked higher.

Those who have qualified compete in a winner-takes-all competition at the final to be crowned Wanda Diamond League Champion in their chosen discipline.

In each discipline, one athlete may also qualify via national or global wildcard.

All 32 Diamond League Champions (one man and one woman in each of the 16 disciplines) are crowned over two days of athletics action at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme in Brussels.

Each champion is awarded a prestigious "Diamond Trophy", US$ 30'000 prize money and a wild card for the World Athletics Championships (certain conditions apply).

The new Final 3 format is used in the throws and horizontal jumps at all series meetings, but not at the Wanda Diamond League Final.
