Getting to know
Manava Naik: Telly's bold bahu
Role call: She is seen as the crazy girl and outspoken bahu Manjeet Kaur in 'Teen Bahuraniyaan' on Zee TV. She is someone who talks non-stop, has endless rides on her Scooty and lives life to the fullest. She is the only non-Gujarati in a Gujarati household and gets noticed for everything she does or says. But Manava Naik acted in several Marathi serials before she made it big with 'Baa Bahu Aur Baby' where she got to play a prominent role.
Says Manava, "I had started acting on an experimental basis since I was a child. Theatre has influenced my life to a great extent. I was a part of several theatre groups including the one floated by my actor mother. Several actors including Renuka Shahane were a part of it. Since the time I have started understanding things, I have seen only theatre around me."
If not an actor: Like all little girls, Manava too dreamt of taking up a creative job. She reminisces, "Although I was acting since childhood, I thought it was just my hobby. I dreamt of becoming an architect or an interior designer and even a doctor; until I suddenly changed my mind and decided to continue acting."
Flashback: "Since I was acting since childhood, my first professional assignment came when I was very young. I was about nine years old when my mother's friend who was directing 'Vaar Vaar Parivaar' (Zee TV) offered me the role of Surekha Sikri's youngest daughter. Naseeruddin Shah's daughter Heeba played my eldest sister in that serial," she laughs.
