Kuljeet Randhawa
Kuljeet Randhawa's maid Chanda Kedu (49) found her hanging in her Juhu flat on Wednesday night. Earlier that day, Chanda reached Kuljeet's home at 10.30 am. Kuljeet was fast asleep.

"Didi had given me a duplicate key. I cleaned the house, cooked breakfast and made juice for her. When I woke her up before leaving, she told me, 'Aaj shyam ko mujhe paneer matar aur roti khane ka mood hai.' Those were her last words to me," she said, weeping.

"I went back to her flat at 8 pm. When I switched on the drawing room lights I found her hanging," she added.

Severe back pain

Chanda Kedu said that Kuljeet and Bhanu Uday used to have petty fights
Chanda said Kuljeet was a religious person. "The day before her death was a Tuesday, so she was fasting. I had made beet and watermelon juice for her. She had terrible back pain that day," said Chanda, who spoke to Kuljeet's mother in Delhi that day.

"Mataji asked me to take care of her daughter, as her back pain was unbearable. Didi was crying while talking to her, because she couldn't bear the pain. I overheard didi saying, 'Ma, I can't take this pain. Kuch bhi karo aap jaldi aa jao'."

Meeting with Bhanu

"Bhanu bhaiya (actor Bhanu Uday, Kuljeet's boyfriend) came home that evening," said Chanda. "I saw them hug each other. Didi was very emotional. She was always concerned about him." In her police statement, Chanda mentioned that the two used to have petty fights but would patch up the next day.

According to police sources, Kuljeet's friend Tina made several calls from Kuljeet's cell. She called her parents and Uday to inform them about the suicide. Since then, however, Uday has disappeared.
She never recovered from Nafisa's death

Kuljeet was a close friend of model-VJ Nafisa Joseph, who committed suicide on July 29, 2004. She had co-starred with Nafisa and Malini Sharma in Cats on Star Plus. Like Nafisa, she too was prone to bouts of depression and extreme mood swings.

Nafisa had been found hanging by a dupatta from the ceiling fan in her bedroom, after her relationship with fiance Gautam Khanduja ended.
Satyam Tripathi, director of Star One's Special Squad, said, "Kuljeet never recovered from Nafisa's death.

Nafisa's story kept playing out in her mind. I remember shooting an episode with her in which one of her colleagues in Special Squad was supposed to die. She kept associating the incident with Nafisa's death."
Most TV stars skip funeral

The majority of the TV fraternity chose not to attend the funeral of Kuljeet Randhawa yesterday. The few who made it included Gauri Pradhan, Ankur Nayyar, Manish Wadhwa and Kamya Punjabi, all of whom were in tears.

Kuljeet's parents arrived in Mumbai from Delhi and went to the crematorium at Oshiwara at 1.30 pm yesterday. While Kuljeet's father Gurbachan and elder sister Gurinder managed to hold back their tears, her mother was inconsolable.

Actor Ankur Nayyar, who worked with Randhawa in Kohinoor, said, "Kuljeet was depressed, but instead of asking her why she was depressed, I used to try and cheer her up."

Kuljeet lived at Krishna Building in Juhu, opposite the Hare Rama Krishna Hospital. "Look at that car (pointing to a white Accent). It belonged to Kuljeet madam. Now everything is over," the watchman on duty yesterday told Mid Day in tears.

Asked if he knew anything about what she did on Wednesday, he said, "Kya malum. She was home the whole day. After she came back at 8 pm on Tuesday, she didn't step out. When her maid came at 8 pm on Wednesday, she found her hanging from the fan."

"She was a very quiet girl and minded her own business," he added.
