45. NEW CASE (1)
There was a crash in the dark room, and a patter of feet…..somebody rushed out from the office...When the morning came, a woman entered the office…..She smiled at the figure on the desk, and walked towards it…
"Shantanu, aap aaj bhi itni jaldi?"
She came closer to him and saw….
His head was lying in a pool of blood.
Special Squad
Boxer's absentia was felt by Ajay acutely than the rest of the team. Missing being holed up with his best buddy; he now resorted to hanging out near Neha's cubicle.
"Aj-ay. Yahaan kya kar rahe ho? Dafa ho jao."
"Neha. Sorry yaar."
"Tumhe itni acchi play appreciate karni nahi aati. Main bhi pagal hoon. Pehle hi samajh jaana chahie that ki agar tum Mugal-e-azam digest nahi kar sakte to ye play kya samajh main aaegi?"
Her nose flared and metaphorical flames whoozed out of her nose, scalding Ajay.
But he had something else on his mind.
"Neha? Aaj raat dinner?"
She tucked a curl behind her ear. "Okay, I guess…."
Inner Office
"Ye kya hain?" Aaryan pointed at the newest showpiece on her table.
"Magnets hain. Kuch khaas nahi."
"Oh." He sat in the oppoisite chair uninvited. The showpiece consisted of two magnets, decoratively placed at a distance. If one of them would be moved towards the other, it would be repelled, and strike a pole, some distance away from their ends. The collision with the pole would cause a small metallic bell fixed to the pole resound with a tinkling sound. The bell was far from the magnets to be attracted towards them. Aaryan separated the magnets from the rest of the piece and began playing with them.
With one end of the magnet, he chased the other along the entire length of the desk and back.
She rolled her eyes before turning back to her paperwork.
"Hum dono bahut alag hain na?" he observed.
She arched an eyebrow.
"Main rules todta hoon, tum nahi, mujhe paperwork se nafrat hain, tum usi ke liye jeeti ho, mujhe yahi so jaane ki aadat hain. Tum ghar jaakar hi so jati ho-"
"Toh?" she interrupted sharply.
He changed the direction of one of the magnets so that the opposite poles were facing each other. He held them away so that they did not meet.
He opened his mouth to say something when-
"Sir, ek aurat aayi hain…."
Vishakha repeated once again. "Sir, ek aurat aayi hain. Kehte hain ki who aapse baat karna chahti hain."
"Unhe interrogation room main baitha do…Main abhi aata hoon…."
He got up and walked towards the interrogation room.
He shot Deepika a look before entering, but she chose to ignore it.
The woman was in her early twenties and looked barely out of college. Clad in a smart skirt and a shirt, her eyes were red, and cheeks stained with mascara….
She looked sacred out of her wits.
When she saw all the officers converge in the interrogation room, she burst out crying.
Aaryan exited, unfamiliar with the method to deal with crying women, leaving Deepika to sort her out. He stationed himself beside Neha near her cubicle.
"Ji aap shaant ho jaie aur bataie…kya hua hain." Deepika said in her calming tones. She darted a look at the camera…Only Aaryan could make out the subtle annoyance in her features.
The women stated coherently.
"My boss…I found him dead in the office."
